Love the footage of the looping coaster, never seen one running before. It doesn't look that painful

More here! 1910 this time at Shipley Glen in Yorkshire.

It closed but a few years ago. The Aerial Glide (shown in this) was the UK's oldest coaster, and the first to be given a listed status. However, the listing was overturned and it was demolished.

The footage also has a bit of a Switchback - which I've never EVER seen film of.

Jer's posting of the old Cyclone video footage in the youtube topic reminded me of this topic, which we can't let die.
So I'm resurrecting it again for those of you who missed it or weren't around to see it when it was originally posted & to hopefully get some more good videos/photos of those classic rides posted by you guys & girls.

Just watched the Shipley Glen reel again. It's pretty much 100 years to the day since that was filmed. The area there was packed, like Disney on a busy day packed. Yet today, Shipley Glen would probably be busy if 20 people showed up on the same day over the Easter holiday weekend. It's so odd to see the way the fortunes of these places changed so rapidly.

I also love the way everyone gets really dressed up too. The guy in three piece suit, long over coat and hat playing the football game

Most of these are most likely too rough for today's day and age to rebuild them without some fairly major modifications. However, I don't care if it is steel or wood, or what design it is, but a triple racing coaster is something that needs to happen. Seriously, think of all the cool near misses they could do, especially with a steel ride, and Gravity Group with their new high-five element could do some things that can only be described as bucket list worthy.

Some of these old rides actually look pretty modern - the Crystal Beach Cyclone for example - the lack of edges to the track on the first drop looks similar to the New Texas Giant in parts.

Here;'s one I found - has snippets of POV too

That's a really nice find, that fire is gutting, so much damage.

Thanks for resurrecting the topic - I'd never seen it before and there's a treasure trove of stuff in here. Just love to see those old black and white videos :--D

Not THAT old, but...

The Bat, Arrow's first suspended coaster... That was only open for a few years at Kings Island. It's cars were clearly the inspiration for Vampire's.

It looks crazy. There's also footage of Kings Island's other old rides.

Nah, old footage doesn't have to be ancient to be very interesting - case in point here Joey. We are lucky that there is possible "decent" record of history in the making as you've got here. Brilliant! :)

Lol, The Beastie! I've never seen that sign before :-D

And that footage of The Bat is pretty epic. Sometimes the first is the best...

Has anyone here been on the Bat?

It looks absolutely insane, the arrow suspended coasters had so much potential, if they found a way to get a coaster to swing that much without tearing itself apart they would have been amazing coasters.
