What's new

Efteling | Danse Macabre | Intamin Dynamic Motion Stage | 2024

It's a bit more substantial than simply a repaint if you consider the addition of multiple custom made theming elements like the new tentacles, the animatronic eye, the new Phalanx base theming around Forbidden Valley and the Nemesis Reborn queue line etc.

The efforts MMM went to were enough for Alton Towers to win a very rare Golden Ticket Award. Anywhoo, of course Danse Macabre appears to look leagues better than anything we have in the UK full stop. I wouldn't expect anything less from a truly world class theme park like De Efteling.
oh yes how could I forget about the eye, yes that is fab. From far away.

I wish there were words I could use to explain to you how little you should read into Golden Ticket Awards.
I think "Valhalla winning Best Water Ride of a year in which it was closed" does the job.
Point taken, my memory's awful lately. Still, I do think that Nemesis Reborn looks the part personally. Will eclipse Danse Macabre though? Of course not. Everything you see at Efteling is in a league beyond attractions you'd find even at a Disney park, in my humble opinion anyway.

Well riders have got on and here is a video from Efteling showing whats its like, skip to 1:05 for a look inside, it looks honestly fantastic.

And here is a full on ride POV:

Looks about what I expected, which is to say it looks great. Bit hard to tell from how dark everything is but I assume there’s a freefall drop at the end?

It does indeed have a relatively tame drop at the end.

I rode this thing twice last friday, and I loved it. It's probably my favourite ride at Efteling and it's certainly the highest quality ride there. I can also say for certain Efteling is my favourite park now.

I was able to ride Danse Macabre 5 times this past Saturday and Sunday.
And wow, what can I say: the onrides really don't do justice to the experience. You truly experience a dance where you are guided to the different set pieces. And still, every ride there are new details to be seen and depending on where you sit, it always feels different.
The unnameable can be seen in once projection as well as it's eyes in the centerpiece, but only if you are sitting in numbers 5 and 6 (as I remember). Once the scene turns dark after the ride begins, the unnameable walks around, you which you can only feel by the whole plate moving up and down matching to the steps you hear of it. Such great effects, very well done by the sound engineers. And the conducter and its appearance is shocking every time I was riding it. In the end, there is the drop as mentioned before.
Is there something that could have been done better? Sure, but small things: from the beginning tot the end of the ride, you can hear the motor sound, a very high pitched sound that is constantly there and very off putting (if you are sensible for it). Also: story-wise, the unnameable is not needed and, for it's impact, very much not mentioned before - it could have easily been the conducter that is daring you to come in, otherwise you feel the impacts that he will have. But I guess merchandise wise, including the cat is a pretty smart move.

This ride is definitely a masterpiece and something very uncomparable. It fits perfectly into the Efteling and is a must-do for sure. I can only congratulate the park so much for investing in something so unique.
