Dumps

There is no such thing as a bad theme park imo. Any visitor attraction where people can gather, escape the real world have a little bit of fun is a good thing. However, there are places that make me pull a  face due to their lack of upkeep, safety and management.

This afternoon I stumbled across Al-Sha'ab Leisure Park in Kuwait and was  at what I saw.

Take for example this inviting "family entrance".

Throw in a tatty building housing a coaster, why not?

This dinosaur model has been lovingly restored with what looks like parcel tape around it's neck.

What's behind the green tarp, kids?

Why, it's an inverting coaster where you can walk right under the live track!

Al-Sha'ab by name, all shabby by nature. (I thank you!)

We're quite lucky in Europe and the Americas where safety and appearance usually has an acceptable level of acceptance. Can you think of any truly exception dumps you've seen?

^ I've just gone through that exact rcdb page today. Seems like a right dump, their loopscrew only operates on busy days (which, from what I've heard, this park doesn't have many) and the unique Intamin Spiral coaster hasn't taken any guests in 10 years now. Looking at the picture, I guess there was a good reason behind its permanent closure...

A roller coaster related page that I follow on facebook has just posted a video from this park

Their main coaster (pictured above) is a derelict home-made inverted coaster that honestly looks like the most unsafe thing that has ever existed. It has apparently been SBNO for quite some time now as well...

They also have another tiny coaster (that is factory made), which was just plonked on a muddy patch of land elsewhere in the park.

^You're even showing the kiddy coaster from its best angle, the pics on RCDB make it look even worse than on that picture. But still... my oh my, this is the kind of park you only thought could exist in the heads of raving fanboys portraying the home park of guys dissing their favourite ride. It looks like a dumping ground for poorly executed ideas. If you told an entrepreneur in Swaziland to build a park to use as a background set for a shoestring-budget zombie film, for free, without giving him drawings, he'd still come up with something looking more safe and enjoyable.

This is a masterpiece of terribleness, and I'm kind of amazed there could even exist a theme park of such amazing "quality". It's like effort was put into making it look unsafe and desolate. Small wonders there are no parkgoers (or staff, for that matter) in any of the pictures. It's redefining the term "Dump".

How about Kathmandu Fun Park in Nepal? I totally want to go to Nepal at some point in the not-too-distant future, so I'll hopefully be able to bring a trip report in the next couple of years.

^ That hadn't popped up on RCDB yet when I was there. Totes would have gone.
