Hello all so as you've no doubt heard last night, Disney's Hollywood Studios is cooking up a Monsters Inc themed suspended coaster.

The concept of the "Scare Floor Doors coaster" has been around since 2009, but they've emphasized that this isn't Blue Sky and should begin work on it next year. Judging by the trains in the artwork, Vekoma SFC seems like a safe bet.

They've also put out a model on the D23 show floor today of what we can expect of this coaster. It seems to contain three adjacent show buildings;

From left to right, we see the queue. The second looks to my knowledge like four side-by-side elevator lifts. Definitely expecting lengthy show sequences here. The third contains the rest of the layout, which is definitely a bit of a mess.

There's still speculation as to where exactly this will go, as the different artwork seems to contradict its placement. Have heard everything from Rock'n'Roller Coaster, Animation Courtyard, and god help us Muppetvision. Anyways, definitely an interesting development to look forwards to, please discuss!
 
An elevator lift for a whole train is cool, has that been done before for more than a car or 2? Beyond what Powder Keg does. I guess they can pair them up to use each other as counter weights. Ideally in full view of riders to go with the overall mood and motion of the door factory. But also I wanna see it.

Given the long working relationship Disney has with Vekoma it would be a head scratcher for them to go anywhere else for this ride type - even if we hadn't been shown art of the trains.

Would be good to have the entire coaster room fully lit and your view only blocked by track and moving parts. So many enclosed coasters are either completely dark, disco lighting or partitioned into sections. Lets see the madness in its full glory.

So with that quad track design, do we forsee something where the station doubles as the lift?
It would be sick if trains were loaded, and periodically you just see 20 people lifted straight up out of the load dock and into the rafters to start their adventure.

I feel like that would be a capacity problem if the next train has to wait for the elevator to reach the top and then travel back down. Even with dual stations, I could see that slowing the line down.

Maybe if it has 4 stations or a separate load/unload, it might work better from a capacity standpoint.
 
I'm thinking the ride has quad elevators, but the track of the load station itself is what is the elevator.

Like how on Mr Freeze the whole station track moves and there are two of them,

But in this case there are 4 and its moving vertically.

It's hard to tell from the model, but another option could be to have two elevator tracks operating in the same shaft, much like how Mack does it on Scooby Doo / Matterhorn Blitz / Cobras Curse / Journey to Atlantis.

Also, presume this will have ride lockers due to the inverted trains, if so, the locker area better look like this:

My other prediction is that yellow loop of track shown in Tposes post that leaves the main hall will be a section where you go through a door and end up in Paris or something like that.
 
I'm hearing a rumour that performers for the Disney Jr. Play and Dance show in Animation Courtyard have been given an end date, so I'm going to bank on this going there unless proven otherwise.

My best guess is Star Wars Launch Bay gets leveled but the Disney Jr. building stays and is repurposed for something tied to Monster's Inc., maybe a new stage show. Based on the concept art there's a corner to the right that would match up with the general shape of the Disney Jr. building.

Very upset to see the last thing that Jim Henson worked on getting axed. I don't expect the RNRC retheme to be anything special but I hope I'm wrong. I love the muppets, very upset to see them getting less representation and important history getting torn down.
 
The Muppets have reliably done good cover songs in the past. Even a light overlay should work. I'd like to see a lot more effort than a cut out and new video in the same scenes but let's see.

Only got to do Muppet vision 3D once and loved it. Silly dated nonsense that held the test of time as long as it could.

The new Monsters land could be amazing, and it better be for the sake of both sides involved.

Wether they’ll put the film on Disney+ (hopefully in a restored, 4k format) or find a way to move the show somewhere else in the resort seems kinda up in the air, though.


As for RnR, I do hope they take the opportunity to do some significant trackwork/overhaul to the ride itself given all the problems it’s had recently. The RnR gravity building is easily accessible to ship track in and out of so it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

It's bitter sweet when Disney keep announcing new attractions but at the expense of existing ones.

Sucks to be losing Muppet Vision, WDW is on 27,000 acres, it's not like they don't have any space to expand without removing things.

I really hope they move it into the Magic Eye theatre in Epcot.
 
I think the Muppets Rock n Roller Coaster retheme works very well. It gives a fresh spin on a classic.

Muppetvision 3D I'm hoping does move somewhere closer however the Monsters Inc SFC seems exciting.

I have a feeling that when this was announced, the plans for the Muppets were well underway.
 
I know the axe was always hanging for the Muppetvision 3D ride, especially for how large that plot is; but the moment doesn't feel any better. My most favorite attraction as a kid (that and Star Tours, right next door!), and sad to see it go. Grateful I was able to still get a recent go on it!
 
More gutted about Rock 'n' Roller Coaster to be honest.

I knew the Aerosmith theme wouldn’t last forever, but I always hoped they'd be replaced by something equally 'cool.' I hate that about Disney nowadays — anything even remotely edgy or cool seems to get replaced and 'kiddie-fied.'

Nothing against Muppets — they’re classic. But they don't fit the vibe of a high-speed thrill coaster.

They should've just kept Muppetvision as it was or relocated it. It's clearly well-loved.
