Disneyland California- A Failure.

Hey guys,
I just came home from Disneyland California and I´ve had the most disappointing park visit in my life.
First of all my sister and I weren´t allowed to take our jackets into the park(Nike Windrunners) and were forced to pay a locker for 12$.

Once I arrived in the Resort I rode Indiana Jones,Bobsleds,Space Mountain,Gadgets Go Coaster and Pirates of the Carribean. Fun and part of the rides I wanted to ride.

After that we wanted to ride Splash Mountain, broken down. Big Thunder, closed for refurbishment so we decided to go to the Nemo subs, 90 minutes time in line. Since we got the Hopper ticket we opted to go for the rides in Cal. Adventure instead. Of course I went for the ride I was looking forward to the most, Intamins California Screaming, broken down,no reopening for the day, Golden Zephyr closed. The times on the other rides(Tower,Radiator,Grizzly) 60+mins.

I never thought Disney would be that bad but a park that charges you 137$ per ticket should at least be able to get over 50% of his major rides working. Sure the theming is good and it has it´s own flair but the value is extremely bad. I hope you had better experiences with Disney than I did but I think after today I wont be visiting again.

You only listed 3 rides which weren't working, one of which you knew would be down because we told you about it in your planning topic. Hardly 50%!

And the rest of the rides you just couldn't be arsed to queue for, didn't even think about getting FastPasses for and you didn't bother to watch any of the shows? Sounds more like a failure on your part than on Disney's.

Not sure about your jacket situation; I've never heard of this happening before? :?

One thing we found with California was it's always busy even during the off season.

60 min queues are nothing really, we queued 2 hours for nemo.

Mmh I was well aware of the fastpass and did use it for Space Mountain the Problem is a lot of the rides don´t offer that and the two that offered it (Splash Mountain,Screamin) were broken down and when I got to California Adventure the sign "there are no more fastpass times today on this ride" on Radiator Springs.

I was also aware of Big Thunder beeing down but the point I was trying to make is that if you close your best rides, how do you let 3 more rides break down and make the queues even longer on the operating rides ? I completly understand that rides can have technical difficulties but 3 ?

We fastpassed Grizzly River Run after that I rode everything except Nemo i wanted to ride, and with no Fastpass and 90 minutes waiting I decided to go home, i saw no point in staying in Disney. To be honest with you I don´t like shows, may sound that Disney is the wrong place, but I still thought that without the shows it´s worth the money.

This all may sound that Disney is a terrible park, it´s not, I just was very disappointed that a park like Disney acts like they don´t care about you :/

Parks cannot help it if rides break, even rides at Disney break down.

Chances are Splash Mountain was only down for a short time but you left.

You need 2 days there one for each park.

Sounds like you got spited hard. Bad luck happens, if you visit the parks enough eventually you will catch a day like this, even at the well kept parks like Disney. They did not do it because they don't care about you, you just had bad luck that day.

I have been to Disneyland the week after Labor Day; Mansion, Indy, and half of Fantasyland was closed for refurb. Listening to guests complain on that day was FUN. I sat outside of Indy and listened to hordes of guest complain about the whole park being shut down.

And I agree, 2 days minimum for those parks. I would argue you need 3.

Yeah, don't want to sound like I'm jumping on a bandwagon, because it does sound like you were very unlucky. However, it really sounds like you didn't do yourself any favours.

Can you explain the jacket situation, because that's not something I've EVER heard of, and can't imagine a scenario where putting them in a locker would actually be necessary.

Essentially, everyone knows that Disney will be heaving regardless of when you visit. If you choose to do a single day for 2 parks you need to a) expect that you'll only get a tiny fraction of it done and b) do a HELL of a lot of research to ensure that you make the absolute most of your day as humanly possible. That means getting there well before opening, running straight to a ride, grabbing a fastpass for another on the way, maybe using single rider etc etc etc. Without that, you can't possibly expect to get more than a few rides done. Also, there's no way you can justify moaning if you left early. OK, so you don't like shows? Well, everyone else does, so guess what, the queues die down whilst the big ones are on - make the most of it!

As I said previously, it does sound like you were unlucky to see as many breakdowns in a single day as you did. Yes, that's going to be annoying. But surely if that's the case, that would make you want to try harder to make the most of your day, not just give up on it?!

Probably fell under one of these????

What is the best way to dress for a day at the parks? Is there any clothing that isn't permissible?
The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. We suggest you dress comfortably, wear good walking shoes and check the local weather report before you leave for the parks.

Ensuring that the parks are family friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense. Attire that is not appropriate for the theme parks (and which may result in refusal of admittance) includes but is not limited to:

•Adult costumes or clothing that can be viewed as representative of an actual Disney character
•Masks (unless you are dressing up for a particular event)
•Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
•Excessively torn clothing
•Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
•Tattoos that could be considered objectionable, such as with obscene language or graphics
A Guest is allowed into the parks if her or his hair (or make-up, if applicable) has been made to resemble a Disney Princess or character (for example, after a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique makeover) provided the Guest is not also wearing a costume or clothed to look like the character.

Yeah i admit there is some room for improvement :p The situation with the jacket was a little strange, since the windrunner has small metal sticks on the laces she said it could be dangerous, all clothes with metal "parts"are forbidden, thats what i was told. I asked her if it was okay if i put it in my bag but she insisted that i needed to loan a locker otherwise i was not allowed to go into the parks.
