Coaster Counting

That thing looks just god awful. But I'd take it on :-D

On topic, I don't really like to count those powered kiddie coasters although some probably slipped through. As for racers, I would probably count them as two although I haven't been on many.

I doubt this will change many people's view's on this, but I've just noticed that RCDB have stopped counting them water chutes as coasters (Vikingar etc) and have completely removed them from the site.

My rule:
If you're absolutely sure it should count, count it.
If it's a clone, put every one you've ridden after your first on a "clone" list instead of your "official" list.
If it's relocated, retracked significantly, refurbished, whatever, put it on a "new wrapping same stuff" list.
If you're not sure if it's a proper coaster, it goes in a "maybe" category.
Make new lists and categories as required.

This both allows for massive inflation should you ever need to overcompensate for something when talking to your friends, while you can still claim to have a "rock solid" count you can discuss with scrutinizing enthusiasts. Should be easy enough to keep them apart.
(for instance, 21 for certain + 13 clones, relocated rides, quasi-coasters, etc. It's 34 to your friends and 21 to enthusiasts).

I'm a credit whore, so if it's on RCDB, then I'll count it!

Although many people seem to count the amount of rides that they've had, regardless of whether or not they've ridden the same coaster before or not. Me on the other hand, I only count individual coasters.

^ Why ride a coaster you don't like? :S

Hmm... I don't really bother with CC, but would KOBRA count? I know it's technically a flat ride, because it has no 'path' as such, but it's a car with wheels travelling along a track in the same way any coaster would.

In answer to your first question: because how would you know what you thought of the ride until you've been on it? That way, you get +1 on your count and also get to form an opinion on the ride. You don't have to ride it again if it's rubbish ;]

And secondly, I don't count Diskos, but I can see why somebody would. When The Edge was being built at Paulton's Park Ollie famously announced that he would be counting it, to much scrutiny and ridicule on here.

But, as is always the ultimate final factor, it's your count, count what you like!

Spoken like a true credit whore with guilty secrets in their count. Oh yes, I'm onto you, Missie!

I have a few 'iffy' ones, but they're infamously so, they're not completely random rides that I've deemed creds in order to boost my count ;]

On my spreadsheet coaster count I have a column where I write if it is an iffy cred or not. Stuff like Snails at Joyland Great Yarmouth, it's totally NOT a cred and yet it's countable on so many sites! So it's on there, but marked, so it's not a 'true' credit =].

Take the number of wheels on the train, multiply by the seats, divide by the number of relocations of the ride, subtract one if there is any sort of water element, then round off to a whole number. Take that number for each ride and divide the total by five. The remainder is what you tell your mom, the integer is what you tell enthusiasts.

;)

Besides all the things that are obviously credits, this is what I count:

- Powered
- Clones
- Racing
- Dueling

This is what I don't count:

- Relocations
- Moebius (well, I count them, but only as one cred. I had half a cred for a year because of this)
- Watery things like Hydro
- Things like Squirrel Nutty

Yeah, its all down to personal opinion bla bla bla, but if that 'Hemsby cred' counts:

Then so should this from Jardin d'Acclimatation:

TPR

If anything, that is more of a coaster than the 'Hemsby cred', as it actually goes up and down.

I just go by what RCDB says as my official count. However, I tend to count racers that are 2 different tracks as 2 coasters since most of them have some minor track variation. Something like American Eagle at SFGAm follows the same path, but the hills are arranged differently on the return trip. Relocations, I'm still not sure how to count them since they are technically only one coaster. I suppose they should only be one since it's still the same coaster, just a different location. On the other hand with clones, they are all different coasters even though they have the same layout, so each is a credit.

You should follow my rules furie. Add anything and everything regardless if it's actually finished. Physical contact is all it requires.

Personal note: Sexual intercourse with a roller coaster is perfectly okay. Now I need to find that photo of Alvey cheating on his wife(s) by making baby Magnums.
