Chessington World of Adventures new developments

It looks like literally the whole park is greenbelt:

Based on what's going on near where I live, greenbelt land doesn't really mean anything, you can just declare that it's actually "greybelt" and build on it anyway :(.
I guess the park has agreements with the council about what can be built where.

Work has started with the removal of Scorpion Express, track has already started being removed as well as parts of the structures.

Once the mountain was taken out it was never the same but i rode this so much when i was younger, sad to see it go but the area does need an update.

Definitely sad to see it go, but you're right, it's never been the same since the mountain went.

It's a shame that such an accessibility ride for families has gone though.

Amazingly that makes a total of 4 creds on my list which are currently in the process of being demolished (Scorpion Express, Nighthawk, Green Lantern & Kingda Ka). That's not even including Scorpion at Busch Gardens Tampa which could be going the same way right now.

As per Chessington Buzz, Wild Asia has also already closed in preparation for Project Renew and Refresh in 2027, with all references to the area and its rides and shops having vanished from Chessington's website:
I'm surprised Wild Asia has gone already, I'll admit... I thought they'd close it in the latter part of this season and build throughout 2026.

Between Wild Asia closing in preparation for Project Refresh and Renew and Mexicana closing in preparation for Project Play, Chessington will have quite a notable capacity defecit this season; it's already a park that struggles with crowds, and I can't imagine that two whole areas vanishing from the equation at once will help with that.

Great to see some much-needed investment at Chessington, though I must say it's sad to see such a sudden loss of Wild Asia. It's definitely one of the park's better themed areas, one of the few remaining to be untouched by IP or gimmicks, and has a great soundtrack to boot. 15 seasons isn't a bad run at all, but it will be missed.

Even with a new coaster coming, surely this doesn't have to be a 2 year project? Is it possible it's being closed now rather than later in the season as yet another cost cutting measure? Would be a real pity if so, and as Matt rightly says the park will struggle even more than usual for capacity over the next couple of seasons. Long gone are the days we said farewell to lands with epic custard pie fights and had the whole area transformed in time for the following season...

I understand this was planned. It is intended to be a 20 month project in the planning application.

It is a shame that it's all going this year however I'd have rather had a phased closure.

I hope we find out the plans for Monkey Swinger and Tuk Tuk Turmoil soon.

I do feel like Wild Asia could potentially be closed in phases - it seems quite dramatic to close the entire land 2 years before the planned opening and remove 4 rides from an already depleted lineup.

Seems like a convenient cost cutting measure with the early closure with a lot less staff needed with that whole area closed off.

A real shame as Wild Asia was arguably the best themed area of the park.

Work has started to take place in Wild Asia with rides starting to be removed.

And hay looks like they are getting a Hyperia clone 😆

Glad to see Chessington seeing so much change but its a shame it took so long and all at once.

Great move, Paw Patrol is *huge* with small kids, but I'm really surprised Chessington got this because Blackpool Pleasure Beach use the IP already as part of Nickelodeon Land. No Paw Patrol ride but Character meet & greets etc. I guess they didn't have any kind of exclusivity deal then.

Seems it’s a popular IP with children and the Mexicana area was falling apart so a good move.

Hopefully Rattlesnakes days aren’t numbered and it can become part of Forbidden Kingdom.

The kids are going to love both IPs in Paw Patrol & Minecraft can see both new lands being a big success for them.

I can definitely see Chessington leaning into the IP's, as they won't actually have that many lands left with the removal of Wild Asia and Mexicana.

Essentially, you'll have;

Land of the Dragons - Fairly old and could easily be rethemed to something different.

Forbidden Kingdom - Probably the biggest and most difficult to re-theme, could well be a generic adventure theme.

'Wild Woods' - Vampire's just done it's 35th birthday and can't have long left - then it can become 'Gruffalo Land'

Adventure Point - Pretty generic anyway

Land of the Tiger - only 1 ride to re-theme - and it looks in pretty bad shape at the moment

Shipwreck Coast - 3 small filler rides that wouldn't take much to re-theme.

Chessington Zoo - That could stay as is.

Essentially, if they were smart about it, the whole place could be IP-themed and 'tarted up' by the time Universal came along - giving them a small fighting chance.
