Kings Dominon is weird. Operationally its weaker than most other CF parks and its lineup is.... Well, unusual. I think it gets an unfair amount of hate for a park with such a varied lineup. Granted, nothing is amazing, but they do have some truly interesting rides that are, IMO, must rides. Grizzly, FoF, Volcano, Anaconda, Dominator and Intimidator are all good rides, but none of them are great or universally praised. But whether you like Intimidator or not, for example, it offers something unique to it. It's an educational piece in how not to build a 300ft coaster.
Intimidator was such a stupid mistake. A lot of older local fans feel like they blew their chance to get their destination ride big time, instead getting starry eyed over the height gimmick without the space to make it work. It's like they saved their pennies all their life for that ride, only to have it be a maintainance nightmare and financially prevent any new developments. This is me exaggerating and theorising, but you know what I mean. I don't think Intimidator is bad, but its not critically good, nor is it operationally sound.
It doesn't help that Busch is being a weirdo and not offering any reason for KD to up their game. Busch's quality has plummeted between my first and most recent visit. KD really tried hard with their anniversary thing, and good for them, because you don't see many big chain parks embracing their history like that.
I can't see KD getting a new coaster for a long time now, which is a tragedy really. They need a second chance at the destination ride game Intimidator was supposed to fulfill... Conversion of Hurler would be my preference!
I think its pretty sad they got rid of Shockwave and are replacing it with a flat, but... But, they don't have many flat rides, and there's not a ride like this anywhere local, so... I guess its a great filler ride really.
