Butterflys Are Not Roller Coasters

^It so should be!

Mack have THREE photos of it on their Powered Coaster page.

I 100% count it. I've never understood why it isn't counted, everything about it screams cred.

You mean apart from the hills, turns and helixes?

Dunno what monorails you ride mate...

And then there's the small matter of the fact the manufacturer, the people who sell it, sell it as a coaster.

Which is not true of the Butterflys.

I had never even heard of it, but I rode it (well the side that was open :( ) just in case it is considered a cred.

It IS a Mack Powered Coaster, just with an extremely dull layout (it even has bursts of speed IIRC).

But if you count that, then you have to count Squirrel nutty I guess. Where is the line drawn?

I rode it because it looked quite cred-like, but haven't counted it.

I clearly have a predilection for reviving long dead threads and quandaries about what is a roller coaster.

I just went on a butterfly. Despite me repeatedly telling my daughter it wasn't a rollercoaster she was immediately terrified of it. I told her it was a bit slide and a bit see saw and she added "and a bit roller coaster ".

So that is in fact the definition that all other counting methods have failed to take into account: Does it instantly scare my daughter? It does and so it is a coaster.

(Also, it is on a track, I don't understand the arguments that it isn't. Lift hill, track, train, goes up and down. Quite a fun first drop. It's just a small boomerang and is clearly a roller coaster).

It’s a tough one!

I haven’t ridden a Butterfly, but I guess for me, it would come down to “does it feel like a coaster?”.

If it coasts and feels like a coaster, I don’t see how it shouldn’t be a coaster?

Feeling is a factor to me, personally. It’s why I did not count the Ghost Train at Blackpool after riding it for the first time recently despite the fact it coasts up and down, and I don’t count Disk’Os, whereas I do count a number of powered coasters despite the fact that they don’t technically coast under their own momentum.

Although with that said, I tend to count most things if RCDB counts them, as a general rule. I don’t agree with Duane on everything (the one notable divergence is that I wholly disagree that Steel Phantom and Phantom’s Revenge should be considered the same credit, and that BuzzSaw Falls and PowderKeg should be considered the same credit), but I tend to agree with his logic on most things.

Like-for-like retracks, I don’t count separately to their original rides. I wouldn’t count such things separately even if some profiling has been minorly altered (e.g. Python at Efteling, new vs old). I don’t count Disk’Os but do count powered coasters and half pipes (well, half pipe in my case seeing as I’ve only ridden RC Racer). I don’t count log flumes that coast (e.g. Splash Mountain), but I do count Atlantica SuperSplash. It’s a funny old debate, and there’s probably some inconsistency in my logic!

Just dropping in to say that:
1. If Superman: Escape from Krypton is a cred,
2. if Cobra’s Curse or Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain are creds,
3. if Vekoma Flying Dutchman are creds…

🔥🔥⛽⛽️Demon Drop is a cred. ⛽⛽🔥🔥

I've said it before, and I think it applies to everyone, but the only person that cares about your cred count and what you include and don't include in it is you.

There's always inconsistencies and it's irrational, so I think I'm going to start giving my personal count as an irrational number.

I currently have π^(2π)-(e^e)x7.5 creds

But that's too simple and easy an answer. Add more complexity and qualifiers like a real man!

But does it feel like a cred? 😜

I don't make a habit of agreeing with Ben, but he wasn't wrong.

...this topic has also served to remind me that it's not just rose-tinted glasses, this site is a lot more pleasant than it was a decade ago.
