Hahaha! Don't worry, so did I!Jake said:How did I miss this?!
I couldn't give a **** about it being an "eyesore" or "ruining the skyline" or whatever. Brighton is so hilly that, most of the time, you can't see a lot of the tall stuff anyway. Even if you can, does it matter? Does new always mean bad? I quite like the odd occasion when I see the wheel thing poke up between the buildings. Reminds me its there, and reminds me that Brighton is all about tourism and having fun. I like that.
As for not being much to see, I kinda get what you're saying. That's not to say there isn't interesting stuff to see in Brighton though. This thing makes more sense than the wheel though, that basically only gives you a good view into a few peoples flats, yet people still bother to go on that. Mind you, that's probably helped by being right next to the pier, and therefore in the busiest tourist spot in town. This will struggle a little bit more being further away. I reckon people will still flock to it in their droves though. Afterall, look at the Spinnaker, people still pay to go up that, and what is there to see there? Really? (Let me get in a pre-emptive "shut up Dave!" Might as well throw in a quick "shut up Ollie!" while I'm here too)
I believe that the plans for this are somehow linked to the re-generation of the west pier in some way. I can't remember if it was a "we need to raise money from i360 then we can do it" or a "the council won't grant permission for one without the other" thing though. I do somehow remember the guy behind it all banging on about how he believes any reincarnation of the pier should be a big modern entertainment complex, and how big a fan he is of the rebuilt one at Weston-Super-Mare. I could have that wrong though. I also disagree, but that's beside the point. If that did ever happen it'd be ages away, and you never know, might even bring a new cred or two!
Oh, yeah, and...
Sussex Heights is about 150m from the i360 site and is 335ft tall. There are also other 100+ft buildings nearby (for example, the 168ft tall Holiday Inn is approx 100m away, and Chartwell Court is apparently also 334ft high)spicy said:considering the tallest buildings in the area I guess aren't over 100ft.
