BGT - Future of Rhino Rally / Gwazi

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

Can see that happening in the next 5 years tbh.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

So, they're running one side because it costs too much money to run two? Do I have that right?

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

^ Apparently so, it looks that way.

Shame, I only got one side. There was something about it that I kind of liked. It was SO rough and like vibrated everywhere, but still, I did enjoy it.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

According to Screamscape, it could be something to do with some extended maintenance, something to do with them testing out some topper track on it, but they haven't got round to doing it yet.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

Shall wait for it to get that treatment then that changes the track.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

Maybe this coaster could have the "Iron Horse" treatment to prolong it's life

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

To be fair, I didn't think they EVER ran both sides. Tiger is the one that I got in 2008 so meh <3.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

^Both sides were running shortly after the new Millennium Flyers were added when I went to Busch Gardens for Cheetah Hunt's media & opening days.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

They used both sides only in peak and during events that were pay extra like Halloween.

Only one side was open in the day but both were at night.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

They only started with the one side thing in 2007, should have made my post clearer.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

They were running both sides on a Saturday last Feb, but it was when the park was heaving. I too prefer Tiger, so I hope it's up an running soon

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

Let me break it down for y'all.

They used to only run one side most of the time, but sometimes they ran both.

It doesn't make you special if they were running two when you went and nobody cares.

Hope that clears things up.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

Nobody thinks they're special because they were at the park when both sides were running. They were just replying to this:
To be fair, I didn't think they EVER ran both sides.
Hope that clears things up.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

OK, cool.

My point that that post didn't need a load of people going 'it ran two when *I* went' still stands.

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

Yeah, I understand what you mean Ben, but people tend to post like that to show that the coaster actually ran with both sides open quite often. It's just human nature to do something like that.
Now let's see who continues to post the obvious.

actually - they did send me an email saying they opened both sides "just for me".....

Oooh - I am a silly billy!

Re: Rhino Rally / Gwazi Tiger - Down for the count

Screamscape has an update on Gwazi:

General Park News - (4/8/13) While Busch Gardens has still not been willing to make any comments or answer my questions about the future of Gwazi in the park, one reader claims to have seen what appeared to them to be one of Gwazi’s inactive trains taken apart and the cars mounted to wooden platforms and set alongside one of the park’s backroads, as if they were being shipped out somewhere.
There is an interesting rumor claiming that if Gwazi’s was shut down at some point in the future, the trains (which are only a couple of years old) would be shipped to Busch Gardens Williamsburg. This would be a very intriguing move since that park has no wooden coaster at all, but has long been rumored to be interested in building one on the former site of Drachen Fire, possibly as part of a whole new land themed to Spain, or part of an expansion of the existing German themed Oktoberfest area. For more on what the future of BGW may hold… make the jump over to that page.
As for the future of Gwazi, a reader took the early morning Roller Coaster Experience tour at the park not long ago and during the Gwazi portion of the tour, did ask a few questions about the future of the ride. According to the mechanic who talked to the group at that portion of the tour, the Tiger side is closed permanently. They also told the group that the coaster was expected to be removed in the next year or two to make way for a new “Speed Coaster” that would open in 2015 or 2016.

If that BGW rumour is true, why would why want second hand trains for a brand new coaster? I would have thought that trains come with new coasters as part of the whole package... would any manufacturer make a brand new coaster and not supply trains?

Those Millennium Flyer trains are only two years old and have a very long lifespan, so I don't see any issue with using them on a new GCI coaster at BGW.
