Best / Worst Themes

Yes, it has been done before, I know it has, but it has obviously died away quite a while ago so I thought I'd bring it back for discussion. What themes do you guys like the best, of any coaster or flat out there? You don't even have to have ridden it or anything. Which themes just completely fail? NO Disney parks please, we all know they pretty much are number one for theming (except Primeval Whirl, what were they thinking, really).

I'm not gonna lie, I really think the premise of a horror, or Saw themed coaster was very good. I can't say how well it was pulled off because I haven't seen too much but, it looks pretty good, though not my favourite.

Black Mamba, Talocan, Nemesis, and Volcano all look pretty good, and so did Led Zep or pretty much anything else at HRP.

That I have been on, oh geez, um, well yah I'd have to say Journey to Atlantis. Dragster and Ka are okay theming wise, but really it coud've been done better. Thunder Run, if Wonder Mountain counts as the theming to that, has good theming.

Best: Dueling Dragons

I have yet to ride something so extensive all over.. until I ride Manta. The actual coaster isn't too highly themed though.

Worst: Scream!

Pictures don't do it justice.. seeing it in person just makes me want to punch whoever thought of that in the face.

SAW! :D

But really. Anything in Phantasialand as they theme there rides as good as (if not even better) than Disney.

Worst themes.
X/WTF would be number one.

I dont think anybody will beat Phantasia or Disney with physical theming, but for actual theme concept itself I would say its out of Nemesis, Mamba, Everest or Manta.
I include landscaping as theming as obviously it helps set the theme in some cases.

Worst is X\: really. Even I don't get the point!

I like the theming at Phantasialand because the theme is carried on throughout the ride, not just in the station area.
In terms of worst, then very few rides have a bad concept, but its simply how well the are pulled off. I don't want to point at Thorpe again, but some of their theming is pretty atrocious.

It should be transferred to CP. Then the American members can see how rubbish it is and we can all finally Cee-Da-Point of it, :p[/lamejoke]

Why do I foresee a debate on theming of a theme park coaster vs. an amusement park coaster?

My favorite themed coasters that I have ridden are Dueling Dragons, RnR, BTMR (Disneyland), and Space Mountain (Disneyland).

The best themed coaster overall has to be Manta.

Who are we kidding here, they are going to have to add a disclaimer that women may become pregnant while riding this ride. It is hot and sweaty and I like it.

Worse goes to any themed coaster that has fallen into disrepair, such as Disaster Transport. Even in its dilapidated state though, I still love it and have a good laugh with friends while riding.

Best : Oblivon love the whole fear thing, Exp Everest, through the queue with the yeti museum, and duleing dragons queueline, brilliant!

Worst: Rita's

My favorite is theme is Expedition Everest, with the awesome queue. I went through there around 5 times and I don't think I even saw everything there was to see!

We already have Disaster Transport, there is no need.

^^ Disaster Transport has bomb theming, I don't even care what anyone says :p . All the fabulous bright paint is fabulous.

Emilia, I asked for non-Disney coasters, otherwise clearly Disney would blow everything else away.

Thinking about the best theme as a concept as opposed to actually how well it's done. I like Oblivions's idea. The Cyberpunkish-Futuristic-1984 thing is pretty cool. When it comes to how well it's themed Expedition Everest looks outstanding from pictures.

Worst: Bubbleworks? Tidal Wave? Flume at Alton? Sposored things... infact my list is a list of rides sponsored by soaps... Soap themed rides.

I like nemisis' themeing - more than anything, just for the blood river. It's just a shame that AT between rita and spinball whizzer went so off course with the whole concept of themeing. The whole of Thomas Land at DM is superb too, in particular, the Troublesome Trucks. Generally tho' in the UK, we bite, when it comes to themeing.

Ha sorry, I was skimming, totally missed the non Disney part of the question... in that case I think the Manta theme looks amazing!

I believe that BGE, USO, SWO, and Dollywood have great theming (next to anything at any Disney park, of course). Six Flags does pretty good with their Superman and Batman rides. Cedar Fair wouldn't know theming if it dropped out of the sky and bit them on their but.
My top 5 would have to be:
1. Manta (nothing else is even close)
2. Mystery Mine
3. Alpengeist
4. Big Bad Wolf
5. Almost everything at USO or IOA (Problem -- Mummy, Men In Black, Simpsons, E.T. and Terminator are in "lands" that make no sence. The rides in IOA are where they need to be.)

Revenge of the Mummy probably has the best theming of any coaster I've every been on, but Dueling Dragons isn't behind by much at all and is a better ride, so I'll leave it at a tie. As amazing as both of these marvels are, though, it would be even more amazing if this thread ran its course without the Crystal Wings debate coming up.

Best-Expedition Everest, all of IoA and Universal.

Worst-SFMM, so many random themes that don't fit in.
