Best parks near these cities

I'm kinda interested in visiting the following cities:
- London
- Barcelona
- Helsinki
- New York
- Madeira (I know that there aren't any theme parks, but are there any waterparks maybe?)

So, which are the best parks near these cities?

London - Thorpe Park
Barcelona - I guess Tibidabo is your best bet here
Helsinki - Linnänmäkki
New York - I guess Six Flags Great Adventure is the biggest park that could be called "located near New York", though it's definitely a day trip at the very least.
Madeira - Ask the people at the hotel/the locals. They probably market it excessively.

Port Aventura's really close to Barcelona.

And SFGAdv isn't that far out of NYC. It's like, easy in a day, not "at least a day trip", which makes it sound like it's MILES away and a trek in a day that you might want to consider splitting, cause it aint.

Yeah, if you're in Barcelona, you might as well go that extra further away, It's an hour by train to get to PortAventura and is well worth it.

SFGAdv is about 60 miles away from NYC, which is easily do-able in a day. There's actually a few decent parks around NYC, though these would probably require car hire for a day trip: Hershey Park (150miles), Lake Compounce (100miles) and Six Flags New England (130miles).

And don't forget Coney Island, which is in NYC. ;)

If you are going to London, I'd also recommend going to Alton Towers for the day...It is quite a drive but worth it!

Yeah, depending on the traffic it COULD be a **** nightmare too. I really wouldn't bother going for a "Day" at all.

Definitely worth the drive though :--D

Depending on the part of London, it could only be about three hours, and you're not really going in the direction most of the traffic is...

Three hours is NOTHING for a park if you're not going to get the chance again.

Exactly...Once you have cleared the M25, there is not too much traffic at all :--D

Yes, I agree, although it would be a bit much for a daytrip, as you'd probably need somewhere to stay on the way up and back from London. But if you've got the time, why not visit England's best theme park?

New York isn't a city. It's a state.

In terms of parks close to New York City, Six Flags Great adventure in New Jersey is the closest "major" park

I have a buddy down in Watford, (Outskirts of North London) who comes with us to Thorpe or Chessie, but he refuses to go to Alton Towers because he thinks its too much of a trek. That`s crap. Alton Towers is incredibly easy to get to from there, its literally straight up the M1 and does not take to long at all. It all depends on what part of London your travelling from, if you have to nogotiate with large amounts of M25 then you might have issues. (Thinks of most trips to TP or Chessie  ) though if you leave early enough it might not be too bad. I seriously doubt you`d need a hotel, I have made much longer trips without the use of a hotel.
But if you can`t be arsed with the hassle, you have got Thorpe Park and Chessington, witch are practically on London`s doorstep.

Pedantry alert, London isn't a city. City of London is a city and City of Westminster is a city, but London isn't. Just think, if we didn't say these things nobody would have a clue where we're talking about :p
