Best new coaster of 2012

Then I would absolutely love to see where it says that anywhere else, because there's nothing that says register to vote or requirements to vote for the GTAs.

Go to the FAQS

Scroll down to the second question

Read what it says.

Eamil tbaldwin@amusementtoday.com or whatever his email is.

Wait for the reply.

Guess what, you registered to vote.

Seriously, look around the site befofe drawing a conclussion.

ah, thanks. Doesn't say anything about a coaster count but at least a minimum of 50 parks is somewhat nice.

Still shows how biased it is since they have voters from four regions of america and then they allow a select few international voters. Also loving the "change happens gradually" excuse.

I noticed that too. It could be down to the fact that it jas mainly been US enthusiasts participating (hence the preferrence of world wide experience)

Yeah I love your idea of a certain percentage of a voter's parks HAVE to be int'l. The sad thing is that it'll shorten up the voting list so much that the bias will come from a select few coaster enthusiasts are voting. Beyond that I think the best think AT can do is adopt Mitch Hawker's system (which takes forever to tally) and have their limits put into check.

I think most people who vota have gone to Alton, Thorpe or maybe DLP. They can constitute that as having worldwide experience and still have a skewed view based on their single experience (which the FAQ talked on briefly at the end).

I would rather it be you need at least 50-100 non North American credits in order to vote.

Thanks for the clarifications man, though this is a case where you do want to shoot the messengers, or inform them, there are quite a lot of people who besmirch your site.

Anywho, I still am not eligible since I've not been to near 50 parks or any international.
While I've seen some odd results, like I said Golden Ticket seems generally accurate. I know its hip here to hate on Mforce so I'm sure it drives everyone berserk it's always #1 or 2

Back to OP: I will ride a Vekoma 25 times in a row if Skyrush or Leviathan do not win.

My friend Katie hasnt been near 50 parks, but has around/just over 250 credits.

Email them and ask about it if you have a high credit count (about 210+)

Well I certainly will email and ask, but as you can see I'm sub 100 so if they keep strict guidelines (as I hope) I fall short.
Thanks though!
No harm in trying, and I'd love to be a part of it.

You know, why don't we put a page on CF that has the top 50 wood and steel coasters as voted on in the coaster tournament? Then there can't be any bias.

Ah that'll do it, well email sent. Let's see what comes of it.
Deff should try to spread the word of GTA to more people, though it can be quite a limited pool, also good to have a knowledgable one. Otherwise 1 million people will vote Kingda Ka :(

Remember gopats, everything will have some bias in it...even Mitch Hawker which seemed to be the most accurate and inclusive, suffered from it apparently.
Pains us, but we gotta accept no ranking is gunna be perfect

[Edit]Just looking at more inconsistencies. Cheetah Hunt was voted Number 2 best new ride last year, yet it doesn't appear in the top 50 steel coasters (fair enough, NTG does).

However, both the third and fourth place coasters ARE top 50 coasters. Yet Twister which is voted joint fourth "best new coaster" beats both Wooden Warrior and Zippin Pippin in the top 50 list.

How can it not be the second best coaster if in the top 50's it beats the other four above it?

It's just so utterly bent it's out and back again!

Remember that there are two different lists for top 50 steel and top 50 wooden coasters.

I know, and Twister is higher in the "Top 50 Wood" than both Wooden Warrior and Zippin Pippin but came in joint fourth place in "best new ride of 2011". If the votes were correct, then it had to come higher.

Then why not participate? If you have members on here that qualify, then email Amusement Today/Golden Ticket Awards and ask to participate.

You want the polls to be less exclusive, do something about it ;)

I'd be interested to see Caffeine_Demon's input on this but...

If I wanted to vote Alton Towers as "best food outlet", or Camelot as "Best Park" then I couldn't unless they were nominated by the committee. If my choice for Best Food was Knoebels, Cedar Point, Dollywood or Holiday Park - then I couldn't vote as I've only been to one of those, so I'd probably put my tick next to the one I've heard is the best (won The Golden Ticket previously).

If my choice for "Best Park" was Cedar Point, SFG America, Morays Pier or Helmsby, then the vote will go to Cedar Point.

See the problem? We don't know what choices are being offered for the categories - so yeah, Cedar Point may win best park each year, but only because it's the only choice available due to the committee.

It doesn't matter how many people vote, if you've got no real choice, then it's still biased.

The example I gave above shows how badly it works too. A ride that is voted for as a better woody loses out in another category to rides that get less "individual" votes. It shows the system is completely and utterly broken somewhere.

I seem to remember all categories did have an "other" button, and the besty coasters you gave your top 10 wiood and top 10 steel, in text boxes.
