Best Known Coaster

Space Mountain for sure, though "Most Recognizeable" - knowing a roller coaster by its shape (not name), I'd say Hulk and Dueling Dragons get up there.

Best known ride in general though? It's a Small World.

I really don't know why Dueling Dragons keeps coming up? I know it's iconic for enthusiasts, but I certainly hadn't heard of it before I started hanging round CF, and I'm sure most of the general public outside of the US haven't either

^ Where Dueling Dragons is iconic is its structure, the interlocking corkscrews and facing loops.

I wasn't asking how it's iconic!
I just meant that anyone over here who isn't in the coaster loop, wouldn't know a Dueling Dragon from a Bickering Newt!

^Agreed. Suggestions of Duelling Dragons and/or Hulk as the world's best-known coasters is nothing short of idiotic.

It's a flawed question generally though. If you asked a random person on the street now to name a famous roller coaster, nobody in the USA is going to name a European coaster, very few people in Europe would name an American coaster (I would say nobody, but Space Mountain as a brand could cover it). What would happen if you asked the same question in Japan? Australia? Brazil?

^And people would still answer with what they've ridden or what they've seen/heard about on TV.

UK: Nemesis, Oblivion or, most likely, PMBO.
USA: Space Mountain, Coney Island Cyclone, Dragster/Ka (assuming a big deal was made about them in the press)
Japan: Dodonpa, Fujiyama

With all the coverage of Wizarding World of Harry Potter recently? That's hardly idiotic. And apart from that, Islands of Adventure advertises all over the place. I know that's mostly a US thing, but pretty much the whole world knows about the new Harry Potter stuff, and Dragons is a big part of that. I still think Space Mountain or Cyclone would be more famous, but of course people know about the IoA coasters.

I never said best known, but most recognizable. That is, you can see Hulk and DD crop up as imagery for the generic term of "roller coaster."

And Mysterious Sue, I was answering your question on why Dueling Dragons keeps coming up.

^And I wasn't referring to you, but the people who brought those coasters up in the first place as best-known. I highly doubt they'd even be named by people in the US if you asked them to name a famous roller coaster, let alone anyone outside.

As for the DD argument, from the GP people i know, Dueling Dragons is right up there with space mountain for some reason, even tough GP from the west coast would probably not even know what Dueling Dragons is.

I must say Small World and Twilight Zone Tower of Terror are the two most well known attractions in the world. Tower of Terror is a very famous ride, as is Space Mountain. They were the only two rides i knew about prior to my first trip to Disney World when I was 6.
