I'm doing this project for school where I have to calculate my living expenses and what my salary would be and stuff like that. For my job, I picked working at B&M. Does anybody know an estimate for how much an engineer would make working there? Thanks in advance.

You won't get specifics, but for a design engineer - you'll be looking at around 25-35K a year in the UK. Top salary of about 65K.

For a graduate position, I'd say 30K - 50K for a specialist role like at B&M depending on experience.

Of course, it could be much higher, but all you can do is kind of base it around what we know a general design engineer will earn.

Hope that helps?

You may need to look and see what the cost of living is like in Switzerland compared to the UK and adjust accordingly.

Thanks, that does help. I just have two questions. First, are those estimates in pounds or dollars? I don't know if that makes too much of a difference or not. Second, if you worked for, say, B&M, do you think you'd have to live near their Swiss office, or do they have others? I know they have a plant in Ohio...

Sorry, they're Great British Pounds - USD it's between $50K and $70 :)

I think that the designers are all in Switzerland, the plant in Ohio is just manufacturing the steel, but I don't know for sure. Engineers will still be required though for producing the steel sections and liaising with the construction engineers as the coaster starts vertical construction. I don't know how likely it is they will be US based, but I'd think there'd be some engineering presence in the US.

Sorry to go off topic a little, but do you think any of the designers etc are actually too scared to ride the actual rides they create?

^ It is said that Ron Toomer (the designer for Arrow) never rode any of his creations due to motion sickness...

Would that count :)
