Amusement park toilets - Europe

Hello,
I recently visited Gardaland and I am still shocked by the fact that I only found squat toilets there (in the men's facilities, I heard that the women's are not like that). I read horrified that Movieland park has them too. Now I am really worried and I want to know what the situation is in other theme parks in Europe - Portaventura, Europa Park, etc. I know it's a weird question but can you tell me if other parks in Europe have regular sit down toilets and if you've also come upon squat toilets during your visit to a park. I heard that there should be some regular toilets in Gardaland but I didn't find them. If you know something about it, can you recall more details? Thank you!

This is such a random thing for a new member to post about, but the squat toilets are largely an Italy (and parts of Balkans, iirc) thing in Europe.

While I almost never use the stalls in theme parks, I don't ever recall seeing them anywhere else in Europe.

I have yet to come across a park anywhere that doesn't have regular toilets somewhere. I didn't come across a block of toilets in Italy that didn't have a regular toilet alongside the squat toilets. (Although I didn't do Gardaland, it wasn't a park trip.)

Don't worry about it. Most of Europe only has normal toilets, and those with squats also have normal toilets somewhere. Plus, I've never used one, but squat toilets are said to be more hygienic and better for your digestive system anyway, due to the natural body position required to use them. If you're physically unable to squat, that is grounds enough to use the disabled toilets imo.

I noted most of the public bathrooms in France having no seat, having to sit on some quite cold porcelain instead. This was very uncomfortable, not only making them lower down (which can be quite the struggle with legs occasionally) but more often than not in pretty dire need of a clean-up before use. This was especially prevalent at Walygator. Was a bit of a culture shock for me as I had no idea beforehand.

Allegedly they have no seats because when they did have seats, people stood on them (???) and they broke too much under that pressure so they just stopped doing it.

I can assure you that Europa Park and PortAventura certainly both have regular sit down toilets available. I did not encounter a single squatting toilet, or non-typical toilet of any description, during my multi-day visits to either.

I’d assume Gardaland probably does somewhere as well. I know squat toilets are a thing in some countries, but I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a regular sit down toilet also available somewhere.

There are public toilets in Cardiff Central railway station that have no seat on top of the porcelain, so I don’t think it’s necessarily a French thing!

People standing on toilets is definitely a thing, probably because of the prevalence of standing squat toilets in other countries. I notice that in very multicultural places (such as my university), they often have signs telling you how to use the toilet, and one of the key instructions given is not to stand on top of it.

I must say, I did not expect to be discussing toilets on CoasterForce on this fine Monday morning…

I saw a weird toilet at Europa. Not the potty itself, but the most genius one in one out traffic light system in June 2020 immediately after the park reopened.

This was long before I'd seen a traffic light system anywhere else. They later went on to pop up at supermarkets and a load of other places.

Notice the use of two sensors? That'll be so that a computer somewhere inside, can calculate, based on which sensor is activated first, whether the sensors were triggered by somebody entering, or somebody leaving. It's genius. :) (The versions I saw later in the UK relied on one way systems. So there was a sensor on the entrance, and one on the exit, counting people in and out, not nearly as interesting... Or boring, depending on whether you have a life or not. 🙈 😂 )

Whilst we are on the topic of toilets.. I was at Euro Disney recently and was shocked at there being only like 3 cubicles per bathroom. There was always a queue to use them which was baffaling for a park with the highest attendance in Europe..

If you are using the ones in Discovery Arcade it's worth the wait though, having a dump whilst listening to the Main Street Music is an attraction in itself imo.

On this subject, can I rave about the toilets at Gronalund? Absolute whimsy and gorgeous architecture abound, each rest room different than the next. We started making it a point to pop our head in each as we went round the park. 😅

Just **** in the urinal. That should make them build some more.

This is the most British solution to this problem ever.

Wow, that is stunning!!!

I do wonder if some people wash their hands in the water feature though. 😂

Could make a joke about fishing with maggots, but I'll refrain...

...Whoops, guess I couldn't resist.
