Alton Towers Opening Times

They'll get away it, its Alton Towers. By far the best theme park in the UK, the place is amazing and pretty much everyone knows, and with that in mind, they'll still get just as many people through the door.

^ Was it though? I can see where you're coming from, but who else actually got involved in discussing this beyond enthusiasts?

Easy positive press release, idk if any papers have picked it up or not but if they do it'd work out, as it is it'll probably only be a passing story as you suggested but it's better than nothing.

I don't think this was marketing tbh, the abuse they got not even Alton would want that.

And it was the gp complaining.

Missed this topic until now, but it looks like a rather large balls-up from Alton Towers on the opening hours front.

Given that it's a resort that people travel from all the UK and even beyond to stay at, the shortened hours were never going to work in a time where people are watching their money and wanting the most value from it. If Alton did want more people to stay on for longer at their resort, they've not gone about it the right way.

The PR department could certainly look to spin it as "new longer hours due to massive public demand", but that could actually make them look even more silly. Any journalist with half-a-brain could find out the previous years hours, put 2 and 2 together and put out a convient, space-filling, mid-page newspaper report on how Alton Towers are allegedly ripping off their customers, and it seems from the market feedback that a lot of the customer base have already figured it out.

The park would do to put this behind them, even issue a quick apology and get on the most important task of making sure that people enjoy their time at the resort.

I HIGHLY doubt it being a marketing PR Stunt for 2 reasons;

1) They've not received ANY good feedback from this movement, which, although people say, "Bad PR is Good PR", to an extent, that's bollocks.

2) They didn't mention their new ride, at all, during the Opening Times Release. This year is obviously going to be heavy in promotion towards N:ST, so, not mentioning it at all, says to me, that this wasn't a PR Stunt at all...

While I agree it probably wasn't a PR stunt I did send them an e-mail complaining about the opening times and the reply was very "new attractions" heavy.

^That's just basic PR though. Ignore the negatives - turn it around to the positives, even if there's no connection.

Yeah, basically a complete balls up which has now been rectified. Not a chance that this was any kind of PR stunt.
