What's new

Alert to all TP Fanboys - 2012 Project

The location of the 2012 ride has been known for ages. It's detailed out on the MTP that was found years ago. They want a new island beyond Stealth (interestingly, roughly the location of the explosion on that image). The MTP also said it'd be 50m high with a lift, just to counter the post earlier asking for a launch.

Wasn't there 2 coasters on that island? One was 50m and the other was 40m...
Anyway, I wouldn't expect a Dive Machine or a Flyer, TBH - unless it was dramatically different from the ones in Alton Towers...

Manta as Sea World was very good, people keep looking at Air as they have never been on another one. Air is the worst flyer out the 3 I have been on and they have moved on a great deal since Air.

People moan if Thorpe get nothing new then moan if they dont, just be glad they are getting something new.

As for a DM I hope not, they is no point with Saw being there.

Yeah, Flyers are NOT all like Air, or even Superman, which are both dire.

If Thorpe got something as amazing as Tatsu <3

Why are people complaining without knowing anything about it?

It's a flyer...big deal! It's nice to know that there's a new big attraction on the way, but until more details are released, I can't get excited (or wound up!) about it!

If you look at Thorpe previous big rides - Stealth and Saw - they've made a good job of them. I wish people would look at each attraction with an open mind before slagging it off just because "it's forpe, init!"

This. Like it or not, Thorpe is one of the best parks we have over here, probably the best in terms of both thrill rides and coasters. If everyone hates it so much, then why do you keep going back 10+ times a year.

Thorpe is a really decent park for the normal visitor; you know, that vast majority that the park is aimed towards.

This might well be s**t; it could equally be amazing. With nothing to go on, nobody can comment. By all means, speculate away on what they could be building, but to start saying "it's s**t" when you know **** all about it is **** ing ridiculous. You wouldn't do it for any other park, so why do it "because it's Thorpe"? Why do so many people will Thorpe to fail?

Anyway, just to throw some other random, don't-have-a-clue ideas into the discussion, I think we should be looking at what's getting built at Gardaland...

50 meters is around 160ft. For an idea of scale we have to look at other B&Ms of that height. (we're assuming it's a B&M, right?) As B&Ms kinda evolve slowly we can be quite confident that a comparison will be valid. So what's that kinda scale? Dragon Khan is 150ish, Superman in Madrid is 164 apparently. So that's the size we're looking at, so yeah, bigger than anything else Thorpe has. I for one am quietly excited by it, no need to go over the top or slag it off yet.

Yeah, but this is England. Its almost unheard of for us to have a coaster that lasts longer than 30 seconds. It may be the same height as Superman and DK, but I wont be expecting a lenghty ride.

When I said "flyer", I meant "it's an advertisement poster" and I was referring to the mushroom cloud image. I did not mean it was a flying coaster, I have no idea what coaster type it is. Just thought I'd clear that up. As you were...

This. Although I doubt it will be a Flyer, Ian DID only mean the leaflet when he said flyer, as he explained a few posts up.

It'll probably be the supposed Wing Walker/Rider/WHATEVER, bringing back that rumour that Thorpe will get something similar to X-Raptor. Then again I've not bothered being all nerdy and checking all the stats of said ride, so I don't know if it would be, with the 50m height and all.

Also, stop hating on Thorpe. It's fab. As I say, it's just the chavs that ruin it.

OMG - Ben...... could this BE the elusive Flyer that we just CAN'T find it's hidden SO well?! That would be: amazing! <3

If anyone needs more info on this coaster, don't speculate, just ask Beans, she's SEEN it! The lucky devil! :p ;)

Twice because there was clearly far too much sarcasm involved there for one simple post to fully comprehend!

And THREE times because obviously someone rubbish like Jusssss(insertinfinites'shere)tiin12 has hacked into my account........

Do you know what? I think we should just completely forget about it untill its building time or, even built and then take it for what it is on opening day. Speculating and knowing everything about something before its even up takes the fun out of it... it becomes boring before its even started.

Basically, what everyone's started to say. Don't moan about it! It's something NEW ffs! Besides, it's got to be better than 13!

Personally I'd be more than happy with another flier (not the paper kind lol Ian) because I love Air
*waits for backlash*
OK so it's the only flier I've ever been on, but I can't get enough of that swooping sensation, and the trill of riding so close to the floor. I know it's not very forceful, but I've never understood all the hate?!

Call me old fashioned, but isn't the purpose of a rollercoaster enthusiast discussion forum to discuss and speculate on upcoming rides?

Just wait and see, I don't think many people will be disappointed with what Thorpe have coming up...

^ You wouldn't think this forum was for coaster enthusiasts STC, I remember the days when people got excited about a new coaster, apparently all that happens now is people moan about it

I for one am very happy that Thorpe Park are adding a new rollercoaster to there already quite impressive portfolio of rollercoasters and look forward to riding it in 2012 :p

People do still get very excited, it's just hard when there's so much promised, and so little produced.

It's different for the rest of the world, but for the UK it's just been constant disappointment after disappointment after disappointment. I think Th13teen killed off a huge amount of enthusiasm a lot of people had for UK rides (particularly those brought forward by Merlin).

It's not right, no. I do think that there should be an active discussion too. However, once bitten, twice shy and all that, and Merlin have taken great big chomps out of us (which is why when they pull off something without hype like Chessington did last year, it's a superb surprise and a welcome, well lauded success).

I think this will be a B&M Wing Walker personally from the whole "prototype for another major Merlin attraction" thing. Nothing new and exciting as such (no launch or "4D"), but hopefully a solid, exciting, proven ride.

I don't think people are complaining about any new rides and development Thorpe have for us in the future (well, apart from the thing opening next year!), and I'm sure most people are waiting with some excitement that we might actually be getting something different... But people are actually moaning about the crappy way we've found out about it.

The only piece of evidence we've had that this is the beginning of an official Thorpe marketing campaign is through a poor poster, which doesn't really show anything, that has been apparently leaked through a fansite with some bloke going "It's the 'official' fansite, so it's DEFINITELY from Thorpe's marketing department!".

Or maybe that's just me? :?

Welcome to coaster enthusiasts.... never happy.... always bemoaning anything less than perfection.... yet there's love for the likes of 'The Ultimate' for its roughness, etc etc.

That's before we even get down to when things happen at Thorpe..... For all its faults (and it has many), layout and inception wasn't the problem with Saw, it's just the poor quality of the construction and theming that just gives off a 'last-minute botched-job' aura that makes it awful!

Thorpe's lovely, leave it alone. In fact you miserable lot, do something constructive for once and find me somewhere to keep all of the chavs (no, Benin, "Thorpe" is NOT an acceptable response! I'm watching you! :p ).
