[2011] Walibi-Parks: W.A.B. vs The SkunX

Now the current owners have sold off a lot of their other parks, lets hope there full attention can go to the Walibi parks!

It does look nice at the minute, I just hope that everything doesn't get covered in all this music theme. May become a bit annoying then.

This is one of the smartest and best revamps I've ever seen for a park, I'll be very surprised if it fails. The only thing that gets me about it is the age group they're aiming for? It's not exactly families but it's a bit young for teenagers, can't quite put my finger on it.

The park is aiming for a family public, but the Music Battle concept is ment for tweens, which are kids between 8 and 12 years old. The large marketing campagne didn't miss its effect since all Belgium is now covered under Walibi banners in trainstations, on the street, shops, TV-radio,...it's pretty amazing, really.

Today, Walibi Belgium opened their doors after a very busy winter. Some pictures from the openingday by http://www.brakesection.be

The Squad Quad

The brand new 'Rokken Roll 4D'. A 9 minute show that, if we may believe the first comments, are very impressive. First comments say that the show doesn't get boring and people want to do it over and over again. The queue is themed as the bar at Shimmeria: Psyke. It has been also said that the special effects are very clever and well used. Adios SpongeBob!

This amfitheater used to have a Carribean-theme for over 20 years. Now it's called the 'Fabulous Arena' (I think Walibi begins to get more and more gay than before :p ) where they play the brand new show 'The Music Battle Show'.

Wow, that does look epic. So who wants to take me? :p

I think they have done an absolutely amazing job with all this rebranding, it's clearly something the park needed and they have dealt with it extremely well. Cool to hear its all over the place in Belgium too (advertisement wise). However all this promotion must be costing them an absolute fortune, I hope for their sake it all pays off.

Some Belgian atmosphere pictures from the park that had a very succesfull first weekend, even one of the best opening weekends ever!

The Graffiti Shuttle <3!! Such an innovative theme for a ride and it completely fits in with the new feel of the characters and the 'rock and roll' thing they've got going on. The shops look absolutely amazing, really vibrant and full of life, same for the rest of the park. I love it, it makes me really happy to see a park get such an extensive and successful revamp.

So is that a new area for this year? Looks really good anyway, with some great attention to detail.

No! This is not a new area. It's Walibi Playland, the kiddie area for Walibi Belgium. It has just got a new design to match the Music Battle theme. Untill last year it was named Walibi Folies and before that it used to be Bugs Bunny Land.

As I thought W.A.B. and The SkunX would only have one single, I was pretty wrong. New songs from W.A.B. and The SkunX appeared online!

Great results for Walibi Belgium during Easter Holiday, traditionally when Belgian parks open their doors. Walibi Belgium had its best Easter Holiday since the park opened in 1975. Walibi Belgium says those results are exceptional and are that good because of the great weather during the holiday. During those 17 days, Walibi Belgium had an average of 10.000 visitors on a daily base. In total, over 150.000 people visited Walibi Belgium. A absolute record. The other results for Belgian parks:

Bellewaerde Park: exact numbers unknown (^ 20 %)
Bobbejaanland: 65.000 visitors (^ 30 % )
Plopsa Coo: 37.000 visitors
Plopsa Indoor Hasselt: 16.000 visitors (v 40 %)
Plopsaland De Panne: 137.000 visitors
Walibi Belgium: 150.000 visitors

Ha. I've been looking and it turns out that it's not true, so sad, a "Fan" has made it apparently, ha, that fan has WAY too much time on their hands!

Xpress is SBNO though, and looks in desperate need of some attention. I'm not for a second suggesting that the picture above is any real indication, but I'd be willing to bet on some sort of repaint/retheme happening.

As far as Walibi Holland goes, the whole rebranding thing really isn't up to much (so far) in my opinion. A few of us were there today, and I don't think any of us were very impressed at all. It's an improvment, yes, and maybe Belgium's park has had more work and attention, but Walibi Holland still feels really neglected and run down in so many areas.

Ok, so all the music videos etc. are looking great; it's too bad that the reality when you're in the park is nothing like that.
