There have been very mediocre rides I wouldn't think twice about but wouldn't certainly rate them as the worst 5.
That award for the worst 5 has to go to (in no particular order)
1 - Infusion (reason - overrated mainly by park, just a repainted 15 year old SLC, poorly assembled, painful as...
Age batters them. Fact. They modified the train chassis to make it stronger and more durable which was introduced around the same time Kumali was built. Unfortunately since 2006 no new SLC's have been built (correct me if i'm wrong)
Lets be honest queues are massively influenced by how many fast track tickets are sold that day. Most alton towers rides at peak season are horrendous.
The bottom line here is that to make a roller coaster on a 'budget' or any product for that matter, money must be either saved through more efficient production methods, or actually cut down on the production quality itself, which I think the latter is the most obvious. I watched a video of a...
Ive rode SLC's when brand new and then again 10 years later and I can honestly say the difference is astonishing. When brand new they ride as smooth as a B&M and I cant stress that enough - but its unbelievable how much 10 years of g force can batter and manipulate poor quality track and...
Jubilee Odyssey used to be rather loud but since it turned a couple of years old the ratchet system seems to have failed completely. Its now the quietest chain lift in the world :P
Its probably already been mentioned but the drop tower that snapped a cable and took a 13 year old girls feet off - by far the most gruesome I think.
Edit - the drop tower being superman tower of power at six flags kentucky.
Something that's always bugged me about nemesis is that i can't quite pin where the train achieves its peak speed of 50mph.. its hard to believe it goes this fast through the helix after the corkscrew because of how compact it is.. does it achieve 50mph before the loop? It's hard to tell...
Totally agree with the dark forest thing. Part of me thinks theyve deliberately left rita scummy or theyve applied artificial scum on it so it blends in with the whole 'took over by the forest' thing. Shame because rita used to be really glossy. I asked my mate how old he thought rita was and he...
I hate to keep bringing it up but Jubilee Odyssey
A picture from a more local forum will illustrate the severity of the fading
Im totally with everyone here thats suggesting Colossus at Thorpe Park. Its horrifically bad, it rides horribly too. The difference from 2004 to 2011 was horrific...
It certainly didn't feel like that in 2006 let alone when it was built! But im as aware as the next bloke here that slc's wear out very quick. Apparently kumali is getting the same now!
And just to add to my never ending SLC tirade, Infusion is starting to look nasty too with bits of rust...
Obviously no one would complain if we got a woodie next and I totally agree, but another hyper wouldn't go amiss. There are 3 vekoma boomerang's in the UK's top 10 tallest roller coasters, say no more
Thats right. The topic title includes 'aged' which i think JO has pretty badly. Not just rust but the track going pink, it's only 10 years old! Actually it started turning pink in about 2009/2010 so 7/8 years old. There's limescale everywhere and rust spots, the track is bumpy and jerky, it...
The lateral wheel banging is something ive been trying to put into words and can't quite describe how unsafe and scary it is. On a sit down its not too bad but on an invert, its scary. If the train derails down you go. The rides deteriorate much worse than others of the same age. B&ms are tight...
Totally agree, on a simple corkscrew model its not as frightening as you expect that from a portable fair ground ride . But its a truly terrifying experience with everything you've said in mind while your suspended 167ft in the air facing the ground with a 65mph drop approaching.
Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st
I think its more the manufacturer than one ride in particular. I dunno, maurn a son, sounds fitting! Although the newer incarnations are much less painful to ride! Infact i think spinball is one of the more tolerable.
Re: Alton Towers | SW7 | Unknown (Gestlauer?) World's 1st
I appreciate the understanding, i was under the impression people were familiar with the humour on towers times. For some reason this isn't running anymore
