Lightwater Valley, New rides in 2011 (see page 7)

The park announced it on Facebook, and it has started to bleed through in the park contributions on Valley mania (for anyone interested by the way, there is only a week left for people who want to contribute a ride review for the Lightwater Valley website, via Valley mania, and surely some of...

Thorpe Park Annual Pass Day 13/3/11

I never thought I'd see a ride to make the rest of Thorpe look tasteful. It's like a clown's u-bend. Shamefully I can imagine it being a hoot, however...

Wher To Go This Year (UK Based)

The ultimate is the wife-beater of rollercoasters, but Martyn is absolutely right; there are few rides so absolutely wrong, but all the better for it (I can only think of Valhalla that is in any way comparable for the sheer WTF-ness). Yes it hurts, and you could do worse with equipping some...

    Schwarzkopf - hero, or hopeless?

His rides are peerless; none of the newer shiny rides at FL for example really hold a candle to the Bullet or Magnum Force. They just felt powerful, but without the pain associated with the likes of the similar Vekomas. The rides generally didn't have flat spots either, and came to a decent...

Would the UK benefit from a lot less theme parks?

Definitely, and the merchandise to. Apparently something of a focus this year, with the new pirate area getting a proper food venue. Even just a place to get proper chips would be welcome. The trouble is the park tends to try and cater for everyone in all places, rather than varying quality...

Would the UK benefit from a lot less theme parks?

That's the point I was trying to make; if LWV was comparable with something like Chessington, (and given it's starting point, that is possibly where it should be by now), then it's location should mean it is capable of a million plus visitors, but it's current collection of rides gives people...

Would the UK benefit from a lot less theme parks?

Yes and no; Blackpool, and Flamingoland would take up to 5 hours to reach from London, Lightwater on the other hand is just off the A1, with the journey taking nearly an hour less, making it on paper as viable as a trip to Alton from the North East. The older coaster freaks amongst us will...

Would the UK benefit from a lot less theme parks?

To be fair, wasn't that relative4ly successful, until Granada pulled the plug? Attendances, from memory were certainly over the million mark, until the spiral of underinvestment struck. The North Doesn't need more theme parks, the existing ones barely gather enough attendees to warrant...

    Do UK parks underperform?

Is that in a nutshell why the merlin pass has proved so successful for Merlin; a season ticket doesn't mean the same experience over and over again, it is far more possible to vary your experiences? By the same logical path, should the smaller parks offer shared season tickets (like perhaps...

    Do UK parks underperform?

Right, in English. What I was meaning is simply this - why do you think that people tend to visit theme parks in the UK less (on a yearly basis) than similarly priced leisure activities (i.e. things, such as football matches, or similar activities priced between £20 and £40 for entry), when...

    Do UK parks underperform?

If UK parks charge about £25 to £35 on average, and can expect the average visitor to visit one to three times a year, how does that compare with other forms of leisure? If you compare it to cinema visits, which are around £10 per person, and the average visitor visits maybe 5-10 times a...

    Who's Getting a Merlin Pass for 2011?

In a word, no. A new sealife centre with a ride in it, and a much maligned waterslide is the sum of Merlins efforts for 2011. Why would I? - I'd have to pay to park too! Drayton, Lightwater and possibly Blackpool are the likely sum of my efforts this year.

    New Nickelodeon Land for Blackpool

 There's no real response to that... I'm starting to wonder if the next decade will prove to be a sparse one for new coasters, with everyone gamely jumping on the kiddie IP bandwagon, and raking in the pennies, in a way that coasters never quite seem to.

    Favourite tin of sweets

The odd thing is, I prefer most of the proper chocs that make up the Heroes selection, and am fairly passe to the ones that make up celebrations; thing is, in mini, that becomes all change! Roses are a shadow of what they were, but the strawberry dream, and hazelnut swirl are still fabby...

Lightwater Valley, New rides in 2011 (see page 7)

I suspect the fact that Schwarzkopf no longer exist mean we are unlikely to see something like Twist n Shout at a park like LWV, as they'd just have too much to lose if the ride failed. They're not cheap to run either, and remember that a park that largely runs all its rides on generators, that...
