Universal Studios Japan | Mine-Cart Madness | "Boom Coaster" {Rumour} | 2024

Basic question, but do we know who actually built this coaster? I'd had in my mind that it was Intamin but there is no manufacturer listed on rcdb, so was this an "in house" build (seems unlikely for such an unusual/risky design)?

For a relatively obscure manufacturer, Universal seem to like Setpoint; they seem to have had a fair few Universal projects (didn’t they do Pteranodon Flyers and/or its Singapore equivalent whose name I can’t currently remember?).

I wonder why Setpoint don’t seem to have done a lot outside of Universal parks?

I got a ride on this today. The mini land is small but very cute. I only did one ride, but I'd say I liked it, but mostly because of the theming and because I had low expectations and I love cute rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Definitely preferred the other 3 main coasters in the park though.

It has a lot of issues however. It's like a gerstlauer bobsled, but WAY more clunky. It's not smooth at all! What also didn't help was the restraint was constantly tightening and tightening all the way round with every jerk.

The whole point of this ride is that it looks like your jumping over/between things and my brain couldn't really compute this fast enough and couldn't keep up with what the coaster was doing. Like it just all happened very fast. I didn't have time to think 'oh look the tracks ending!'.

Universal are often trying something new and I appreciate them pushing the envelope, but the 2 main Nintendo rides they've done look better on the drawing board than in reality.
