Meh.. yet again SFMM making stupid decisions. Who honestly gives a **** about the stupid record? How about we add something which will make the park BETTER?

Stupid management.

Okay, does anybody really count a glorified paint job as a "new" coaster?

Since when? Judging by what they've added.. they made themselves an AMUSEMENT park.. meanwhile MM is simply doing the same stupid things they were doing which put them in the mess they were in.

Stupid management = stupid decisions.

^Repainting and revamping a rather tired and iffy unreliable coaster? That's a poor management choice now?

Adding another small sized (And hence not too expensive) coaster? Judging by the way Insane has been rated by the communities it will be a decent addition for the park and will improve an un-used space (since it seems to be replacing Freefall)...

Adding that Roller-Skater as well... A new kiddie coaster here for the park...

The 18 coasters thing is typical PR... It's something simple and easy to use in advertising... Such is the way of life...

Personally it's a good thing for the park considering...

^Because they're different ride experiences...

It's like saying a park should only have one wooden coaster or sit-down or inverted coaster. They're completely different.

Why are they introducing two new rides in one season (and marketing an old one as a new one)? Do they not understand that people need a reason to come back year after year?

Six Flags are odd. It's like on the rare occasion they come into some profit, they immediately go OMG WHERE CAN WE SPEND IT OMG.

They think that having more coasters than any other park is going to get people visiting? No, it's not, you need a good reputation to do that like CP has earned itself. Only then can you start providing people with **** and they will still lap it up.

Six Flags is being typical Six Flags. Just like Joey said, when they make profit, they automatically find ways to spend said profit. But I think it's cool a Zacspin (which I've heard great things about), and from what I heard about Superman being cappy, the backwards part should be cool (although I'm not that big on the paint job) and of course, a kiddie cred, but I probably won't be able to get it. But I think my trip to Magic Mountain next year is more definite. :)

Good they are getting a new coaster, but why get such a slow through put coaster? The queues for that are going to be stupid, they had enough problems loading coasters when we were there and the park was dead.

If they sort out Superman and make it actually go all the way up then good, but it is not a new coaster at all just a re theme and going the other way.

And honestly.. what will change about Superman? They are reversing a crappy ride. Thats like making X:NWO better by repainting it and reversing the trains. Come on now. Even if they make it somewhat reliable.. it will be back in the ****ter because.. well.. this is Six Flags.

My thing about Magic Mountain is that it isn't a complete park. While us enthusiasts could careless.. I'm looking from the complete park standpoint. They tried and failed at marketing this park as nothing but thrills. That demographic is fickle and unreliable at best. Hell.. it was not long ago that the park and even the chain wanted to work on making this park as a complete park.

But.. yet again.. they are doing the opposite. While you say that the coaster record is just marketing.. several people within management stated that they wanted the coaster record. Judging by the past.. what's the point?

Frankly, from a business standpoint, it doesn't do what the park needs to do to become a completely competitive park in that whole region, nation, and world. They want to keep beating CP at everything.. while people across the nation have heard of CP.. and they gave up on the record in 2003 after TTD. They've added flats, improved kiddy rides, added a water ride, and ONE coaster. In 8 years. Does MM have that kind of notoriety? Hardly.

To be honest.. who gives a **** about a stupid 40 year anniversary bull****. If they wanted to do something badass and advance the park to some sort of standard of competition with the area parks.. do what is right for the PARK.. not for the silly retards in management who feel some silly record will help move the turnstiles.

^Are they not adding Mr Six's Dance coaster thingy wotsit then... Or did I miss that...

How can we establish from one single year when they're adding two new coasters (one kiddie, one teen) and revamping one of their most iconic coasters, that they're going back into the old ****ty MM?

I'd like to see these management quotes saying they want the coaster record really, and even so, it still gives them a marketing ploy to easily play around with, I know for certain back when I was first becoming an enthusiast I found out about MM before CP...

They've not exactly removed any rides for these have they? Lantern looks like it's going where Freefall was and they've had the area for Dance Coaster since last year...

If in the next few years they keep adding coasters then fair enough, the management are idiots again, but did they not just oust Shapiro this year? Have they not been attempting to improve the majority of the park over the past through years (X2 being a prime example)?

Yes they probably still need to add several more flats (certainly one of my more stand-out memories from going there in 07), but in my opinion it's certainly too early to be stating that the management are "doing the opposite" of making this into a 'complete' park...

I like it. I honestly do. Yes the flat situation is horrid. They need at least 15 legit flats to even the park out, from drop towers, to screamin' swing, to giant frisbee, its all needed. But disregarding that, its a smart move.

1. The kiddie coaster. We knew it was coming, and it just diversifies their lineup. Yeah, Disneyland has one, but this will just add something else. Nothing else to really add to it.

2. Green Lantern. Relatively cheap, great location in an unused space that really can't fit anything else. This was completely out of left field. I have not heard much about ZacSpins, but reading this thread before posting, it sounds like a good addition. With it not being the tallest, the younger crowd will probably be willing to ride it.

3. Superman retheme. I love it. I really do. The Superman queue is the best in the park, for one reason. Air Conditioning. 115 degree days, there is nothing better. Over the summer, hour waits were not uncommon, especially on weekends. Now, with a retheme, both sides open, and a new experience, both sides waits will probably top an hour, instead of just one side. I think the reverse launch will make this ride worth riding again. Looking straight down 350+ feet is scary, making it more enjoyable, and frightening.

Yes I would have liked to have seen more flats, but with a price tag checking in likely around $10 million total, its better than that Terminator crap from 2 years ago. This is using the money wisely in my opinion compared to that. Now the next 5 years SHOULD all be flats. If next year we are talking about two more coasters, then I will be pissed, but this is acceptable, based on the price tag.

tks

You're complaining about a ride rehab, a new family coaster and a ZacSpin which has got awesome reviews...

There's no pleasing some people..
That's just what Jesus said sir!

^ I couldn't agree with you more! I don't think anyone called the ZacSpin. Good jod SFMM PR department for keeping this one totally under wraps.

Superman in it's current condition was a near disaster. Kudos to SFMM for coming up with a way to revive it. A backwards launch (so that you can look down from the tower) is a great way to generate interest. And if the reviews of TOT2 are any indication, the ride experience will be MUCH improved. Can't wait for that.

Green Lantern is a fantastic move (capacity aside for a minute). It's a tie in that works (unlike Terminator), and it's a very marketable ride for relitively cheap that can act like part unique coaster, part much needed flat ride. And as I have long suspected, NOT a family coaster.

The kid's coaster costs reletively nothing, yet fills a niche of it's own.

I think this is a VERY smart move by SFMM. I hope it's followed up by some TRUE flats, and a Texas Giant-like rebuild of Colossus!

They have actually cleared out some of the spaces where a few of the old flats were so i'm hoping a few new ones may be going in.

I think these are great additions, Superman going backwards should be great, looking down from the top of the tower. Not sure if they really need the ZacSpin but it'll be interesting to see what people think of it, going to have big queues by the looks of things though.

I really liked the park anyway, people keep moaning about it yet its still a billion times better than most UK parks.

The rides they are getting we would love to get in the UK, half the rides there we would love to get in the UK but there is no chance.

I hate to think what people would think of places like Thorpe if they did not like Magic Mountain.

Yes Superman is not new, but it will be a new experience and probably a much better one.
