Last weekend, Sara and I headed over to Wales for a trip to Oakwood. We drove up on Sat 23rd, went to the park on Sun 24th, then drove back on Mon 25th.
On Saturday, I collected Sara from her parents' house, then we started our epic journey to deepest, darkest Wales. We encountered many things on the journey...
Really? Do I have to? Oh... ok then
Hmmmm... sexy!
Yay for us!
Ooooh... almost abroad!
On the bridge of expensiveness
We must be getting closer
Hurrah!
Oh wait... Wales: the ride has a big queue!
Definately abroad! Its all in foreign! Look - Allan's over there!
We eventually arrived at the campsite which was to be our home for the next 2 nights.
Started to pitch the tent...
Yay! Go me!
Once we were settled in, it was time to get a bit Ray Mears
We rock at burning stuff... sausages, mainly!
Naturally, there was also cider involved.
We then discovered THE nicest thing in the World!
Toasted Jaffa Cakes!
SUNDAY
In the morning, we decided to have another go at burning stuff, and set about trying to fire up the Trangia
It eventually worked (I have the burn on my thumb to prove it!)
It worked so well, that it ran out of fuel, and we were scared to put more in... so resorted to the gas stove
Despite impressions, they were (eventually) edible.
We then headed for the park. Crappy new entrance
We tried to get on the Clown coaster... but failed. BOO!!!
Then headed for Speed
I really liked it. Trouble is, they only had one train running (grrr!) so it took FOREVER to actually get on. It might be a bit rough, but it doesn't concuss you in the same way that saw does, so I found this more enjoyable.
We also went on megafobia. This was also on one train (GRRR!) so the queue took AAAAAGES!
It was well worth the wait though
Other highlights included the super lino slide thing
I rememebr going on this when I was about 9 years old. It was fab to have another go!
We also went on rabbit orgy: the ride
I loved it!
We also rode loads of other stuff... but didn't take photos.
We had the obligatory round of crazy golf. They're rather protective over their holes.
Final ride of the day was Hydro.
Being English pussies, we took the Poncho option
with relative levels of success
After Oakie we landed in this inviting looking place
however, it fulfilled a childhood dream of both myself and Sara... to go on The Crystal Maze!
This place is AMAZING!!!
It was so amazing!
Really really amazing!
We didn't do that brilliantly, but hey... it was amazing!
After all that amazingness... we went for a quick trip to the beach.
We paddled
and STEPHENed in the sand
Whilst at the beach, we had collected firewood
I then, obviously, set about trying to do my Ray Mears bit again.
If you squint really hard, it stops being half a broken cricket bat, and becomes a feather stick
Before setting light to things we flew my kite
and watched next door's doggie
Then I got back to setting light to things
HURRAH!
Marshmallows on a stick. Om nom nom nom!
We eventually decided to call it a night, so put out the fire, and crawled into the tent.
MONDAY
We packed up and started to head for home.
However pretty the scenery was
we started to get bored, so had a party
We then saw the signs for Barry Island, so made a bit of a detour
This place is magnificent
Of course, it has a coaster
Of course... the coaster was shut
To make up for it, we spent an hour in the arcades on the 2p machines. We won lots of tat...
We also got distracted by this woman's amazing hat
Before finally heading back for England...
Over the bridge of freeness
and back in our own country
We saw 2 amazing things on the way back. The first was this car full of GIANT animal heads
The second was MY BABY GRAHAM!!!!
This is actually my 1st car! We overtook him on the M25.
I squealed so loudly, Sara lost the use of her right ear. I miss him so much
So that was it. All in an a fantastic weekend was had by all. Yay!
