Winter Efteling - Jan 2013

peep

CF Legend
Friday 25th Jan

Nic and I awoke at some silly time in the morning (about 3am), we got ready and drove to Stansted airport. Soon enough we had arrived at the airport where we went straight through security and went to grab some breakfast at 'spoons. Time passed by and we soon found ourselves sitting on very cold seats on our Ryanair flight to Eindhoven.

Upon arrival at Eindhoven (which is a tiny airport) we had to ask the lady at the info desk where the bus stop was as it wasn't clearly signposted etc (not helped by a big construction site for a new hotel on top of the airport getting in the way). The info lady was amazingly helpful and seemed a little confused that some random British peeps were on their way to Efteling.

We went over to the bus stop where we had to use some ticket machines to pay for the bus. It sits in the corner of the car park which has the following sign...

Some fellow Brits were a bit confused by the bus so we tried to help them out, turns out they were just clueless as to the location of their hotel and just went to get a cab instead. We got on the bus and we were soon on our way to Eindhoven train station. It was weird being back there because it reminded us of our trip in 2010 when it was Holland day (I have no idea what the holiday is actually called) where the entire place was swarmed with loud happy people all in bright orange. Good memories.

The ticket machines at the train station confused us a bit so we just went in search of the ticket desk where helpful man gave us our tickets quickly and informed us as to where we needed to go. Our train arrived shortly after we got to the platform, good timing was good. The train was actually quite nice and 20 minutes later we were in Tilburg.

From Tilburg we had to catch another bus which took us to Efteling. An Efteling staff member was also on the bus so everyone basically followed him. Till he went to cross a road, turned around and pretty much told a couple to walk further down the road to the car park entrance. So there were probably about 15 people now walking down this street covered in snow and ice towards Efteling. About 10 minutes later and we had reached the car park. We didn't have our tickets yet so we walked over to the holiday village where we were staying. The park was only just opening so everyone was walking in the opposite direction to us but we soon made it to the reception desk. The lady behind the counter was very happy and informative and gave us our pack of stuff for the weekend. We couldn't get into the room just yet so we left our bags in a free locker in the reception area.

We then walked back over to the park entrance and entered for the first time of the weekend. We weren't really sure what we wanted to do first but as it was the first thing we came across we opted to go through the Jonathan Creek attraction, otherwise known as Spookslot.

We had just missed a performance so we had to wait in the very dark corridor for ages. If you don't know what Spookslot is, it's an animatronic show set to the music, Danse Macabre of Saint-Saëns. It opened back in '78 but being Efteling they made a TV special with Kate Bush singing her music amongst the attraction. #onlyatEfteling

Upon exiting the attraction we decided to watch Panda of Doom. Commonly known as PandaDroom, a 4D show with awful CGI, awful 3D and it basically tells you to stop harming the environment that animals live in. It also teaches you that Pandas have super strength. The queueline is actually really nice, it weaves itself through a small forest with lots of little sculptures and water features. It was so cold that most of those had frozen over, it was kinda magical.

The ice waterfall from the other side

Annoyingly the best bit about the 4D show, the tree of death, wasn't working. Another great bit about this attraction though is its exit into a play area themed to each part of the film with lots of random bits to play with and slides. It also has a shop and cafe/restaurant. It's like what Joey dreams of all attraction exits being like.

We wanted to continue the trend of indoor attractions because it was bloomin' freezing so we headed over to Fata Morgana. Here's a quick test: Real ice or theming?

46307_10152466537725360_192925175_n.jpg

It was a trick question. The answer is both. #onlyatEfteling

The exterior of Fata Morgana looked really odd covered in snow. Palm trees + snow= ?

As expected it was nice and warm inside. My camera lens didn't really approve of this drastic change in temperature.

We noticed that the terrorist has been removed. Whether this is forever or just because he's being fixed we're not sure. I forgot how many animatronics they have in this ride though, it's very impressive and the majority of it seemed to be working too.

We went to the park centre to decide what to do next. We kept seeing the Flying Island "Pagoda" go up and both realising we'd never been on it decided to head over to it. We'd only been on the one at Gardaland before so it was still a bit of a novelty to us. The ride gives you such an amazing view of the entire park, it looked even more amazing in the snow and ice.

The boats were running but you couldn't get on, was really weird

We decided to walk over to Vogel Rok next. I love that during the Winter they give him a big hat and scarf.

46320_10152466544160360_393881997_n.jpg

The ride had no queue which was nice. They were also running it with just one train which is when it dawned on me how short the ride actually is. The sound system on the train though was blaring out which made the ride experience a million times better as the music is amazing. I really love Vogel Rok, it's just really good fun, it picks up a great amount of speed and the music works so well with the ride experience.

Sitting next door is Carnaval Festival, a It's a small world knock-off Efteling-style. It's got a song that is just as catchy as Small World too. Once again it impresses me how many working animatronics it has.

Apparently us Brits are all pirates

Sitting opposite Carnaval Festival is Monsieur Cannibale, a tea-cups like attraction themed to a cannibal. Adding to the experience is probably the most catchy piece of music associated with cannibals...

Yes, this was a thing. Yes, this will now be in your head for the next week.

148345_10152466555330360_1104927987_n.jpg

Even the 'cars' are cooking pots

We decided to walk over to one of the foresty parts of the park. There was a giant tent, we had a look inside. What we found was a massive ice rink with no barrier and trees. Lots of trees with fake snow. It also had a food and drink area which was themed.

Volk van Laaf was where we found ourselves end up. It's the monorail attraction that goes around the village of Laaf. This strange style buildings all contain little effects, things to play with and/or animatronics. It's pretty cool that they'd gone to so much effort for something like this.

We wanted to explore this little land more but we were hungry so we went in search of food instead. As we're both bad at making decisions this took way more time than was necessary. I think we spent a good amount of time faffing in the restaurant themed to a white horse before deciding to just head to the Octopus place at the exit of Panda of Doom.

On our way over to it we came across these really nice Anton Pieck pictures which we later found out lit up really nicely at night.

The birds dealing with the ice

After a nice warm panini we made the bold decision to enter the FOREST OF FOREVER. It's not really called that, it's really called Sprookjesbos. A forest filled with fairy tale stories told in various ways. A lot of them we had to read the little books dotted about to find out what they were trying to portray as we'd never heard of them. It's by far the biggest attraction of this type I've ever seen with a total of 29 stories told, all connected by just one very long path that winds its way around the forest. It's something they add to every now and again and although you can tell what is new because of the effects they're all designed to really fit in with the overall look of the entire forest. Very impressive. Time for some photos me thinks.

The king is totally starkers

We reckon it took us between an hour or two to get through the FOREST OF FOREVER. At one point we came across a newly wed couple getting their wedding photos taken amongst the theming, I bet their photos look magical with all the snow.

We popped into one of the shops and Nic found a hat that she just absolutely had to have. Here she is with said goon hat of awesomeness...

It was really nice to be standing outside in a really nice part of the park next to a fire. We decided to head indoors anyway. It was time for some Droomvlucht (otherwise known as Dream Cred). It's such an impressive dark ride. You sit in these cars which hang from the ceiling (like Peter Pan's Flight) with a motor to power you along the fake Vekoma track. You're taken through various magical areas occupied by goblins, fairies and animals. I've never seen so many flowers before, especially fake ones for theming purposes. The finale is really amazing. You spiral down (such a CRED) past a really tall forest which even has fake rain. It's just really impressive and the smells they pump out are really pleasant and just, yeah, magical.

More photos in the next stage of report.

We then went over to Villa Volta. It's apparently the first large-scale mad house but you couldn't tell. The effect works really well in this one too.

Inside the beautifully decorated room

We then walked over to the Anton Pieck square where we found the Efteling Museum. The first room is almost like something out of a horror film, filled with old bits of theming and animatronics. Very fascinating though. The next room is filled with old merch and concept art. The last room is decorated for the 60th anniversary which is quite cool.

Old concept for a few new attractions including a coaster

It was nearly time for the first winter projection show on Villa Volta so we grabbed a hot chocolate and waited for it to start. Annoyingly it was still a bit too bright for it to work properly so we decided to just make sure we watched it again the next day when the park was open later.

385314_10152466618605360_382050549_n.jpg

We went back to the Anton Pieck square where we went on an old chairswing type ride. This turned out to be a bad idea because it was freezing cold and as we were spinning it was just harshly slapping us in the face.

We then went over for some more Vogel Rok. Still awesome.

196367_10152466618845360_501751982_n.jpg

We then went over to near the other lake for AquaNura. We were still a bit early so found a fire to warm ourselves. This one was outside the bobsled coaster and there was a winter market vibe going on with lots of lights. One of the trees had loads of clocks hanging from it which amused us.

150639_10152466618980360_88497709_n.jpg

It was then time to go see AquaNura. It was freezing cold but we were so excited to finally see it. Wow, it was totally worth the wait. They start by sort of giving the back story of the show in Dutch and English and then it begins and it's just fantastic. The colours they've chosen throughout are just really nice and work very well. The fountains are so in time with the music it's brilliant and then FIRE. Throughout the entire show Nic and I just had stupid smirks of joy. It's just perfect.

Thanks for reading. I need a break, I started writing this up hours ago. I shall continue soon.

thanks for you report! I was there yesterday (after 3 hours on the bus, a bit silly since Efteling isn't 100 kilometers from my home!)

Efteling is an amazing park. I'm glad to read you liked it, and sad to tell you: you are missing half the park experience when you don't understand Dutch.

The missing "terrorist" (lol :D) will, I expect, appear back very soon. It isn't the first time some animatronics in Fata (my favorite ride in the world so far btw) dissapear, and then come back, better looking than ever.

Have you tried somehting in Polle's keuken? The restaurant is AMAZING. And I don't mean just good, but it is OMFG AMAZING. Disney can learn some things just by ordering an ice cream there!

The whole fairy tale forest is amazing. Not really a ride, but more like a work of art. Did you get to see "meisje met de zwavelstokjes"? Imo it is the most amazing thing in the park, I always get tears in my eyes from that one. But then again, I understand the whole story.

Personaly I think that when 4 of the 5 coasters are closed, Efteling is still worth the trip. Probably going back next month or so... Again, thanks for the report :)

3 hours on a bus? Eek. Totally worth that though. This isn't our first visit so we have experienced the coasters before, that wasn't a big deal to us (apart from missing out on Flying Dutchman's amazing music).

Haha, glad to hear the terrorist will return soon.

I don't think there is much we've missed from not knowing the language, we've done it enough, spent hours researching and google translating and reading the little bits of info around the park that have been translated. There's a bit in the next part where we were very lost in translation though.

Polle's Kitchen may have been one of the reasons for going so keep an eye out for a new post ;)

I had to google "meisje met de zwavelstokjes" to know what bit you were on about but yes. Annoyingly on that day the effect in "meisje met de zwavelstokjes" wasn't working properly so we went back on the Saturday and yeah, it's quite magical. There was only one part of the forest we didn't see because of the icy stairs leading up to it, according to the map it was Sleeping Beauty. Oh well, I'll see it next time. :D

I'm posting this now because the next part of the report may take me till the early hours of the morning the write up.

Normally, the Flying Dutchman's music plays in the winter, even when the ride is closed.

Translating the whole story's was worth the effort i presume :D? I'm curious for part two :)...

^Yeah, I thought it was odd they weren't playing the music the whole weekend considering Joris en de Draak was blaring out even though it was closed (being covered in several inches of snow does that).

Right, so lets get back to what Nic and I got up to. We had left the park and we headed back to the Bosrijk reception area to collect our bags. The main building looks great during the day but even better at night.

We then made our way to our room which was in the other big building right at the back of the village (it overlooks their golf course. Yeah, I didn't know they had one till this trip too). I love all the buildings backing on to the (iced over) lake. Then there's the Sandman's castle, so magical. The whole village is themed around the Sandman, more on that in a mo.

We went up to our floor and entered our room for the next two nights. I pretty much instantly took out my camera and took photos.

Nic modelling one of the nightcaps.

After faffing around for a bit it was time to head back over to the main building for the Mr Sandman show! Oh yes, the Sandman comes along with his friend and tells a little story. He's apparently hilarious but that was all a little lost on us lol. It was absolutely freezing but it was fantastic to see these two guys be really lively and entertain all these kids. There were parts of the story where they got everyone to do actions (like flapping your arms and doing some sort of weird dance) which we totally took part in. After the show they both stuck around to talk to the kids and for photos, they were brilliant. When we got our photo with them he asked if we understood what was going on, we were honest and said no. He turned around and said "well at least you helped take part or otherwise we wouldn't have got over the forest". We loved it anyway and we've worked out pretty much all of his story since he said that (the dance bit still baffles us). Basically we think he's telling the kids how he travels and spreads the sand so kids can dream while they sleep. He travels by owl so the whole flapping bit was about the owl struggling to fly? Tbh, we've put this together via what he told us and the images around the hotel :P

After that and feeling absolutely frozen we went inside to the restaurant and had some dinner. It's quite pricey in every Efteling restaurant but the quality is superb. We went for a pizza each, it was really good. We paid the same you would for a pizza pretty much anywhere but all the other main courses were over 15 euros which we thought was quite pricey.

After food we went back to the room and watched hours of Efteling TV. One channel was just their park documentaries so we watched the end of the Joris one for the tenth time before trying to translate what was going on in their 60 years one (some interesting footage in that one). We then flicked over to their kids programming channel which was lots of fun to watch.

Saturday 26th Jan

The next morning we got up and ready, then over to the restaurant bakery to pick up some breakfast. We had croissants with ham and jam, it was really nice. We then made our way over to the park.

The owl from the story. It totally disappears at night and returns in the morning <3

We caught that little train to find out it just drops you off at the bottom of the road (probably quicker to walk lol). There were some characters that just got in and sat with a family and talked to the kids, we thought this was amazing.

As the Friday was spent mainly in the foresty bits of the park we opted to go over to the back where Pyhton and the other coasters are. First we had to wait for the gates to open so Nic played in the snow.

539146_10152469644825360_1164259509_n.jpg

Once the gate was open we headed straight over there. We found a special winter tent for kids. We had a little nosey inside. It was epic, there were two bouncy castles, an inflatable course thing and an ice slide which you could pay to go down in little dinghys. It was really cool and just as with the other tent it was decked out with trees and wintery lighting.

As we expected the outdoor coasters were all closed again due to the snow and ice so we opted to do all the other rides in the area, something we'd never done before. First up was 'Snowstorm' (because it looks like Seastorm at Cwoa but covered in snow). It's quite a gentle ride so it was a nice way to start the day. After we got off we were both like "SUCH A CRED!". We're not mad, it looks like what would happen if Vekoma were to make a large Go Gator and power it with kicker wheels. Turns out Vekoma actually made it too.

So... +1?

Next up was the swinging ship which is apparently the largest in the World. It's also themed to a ship that really existed. As with every swinging ship ride it provides lots of airtime.

480274_10152469645535360_416907929_n.jpg

We then rode the little car ride. I say little, it goes on for ages. I half expected a bit more to the ride after doing the one at Asterix last year. At least moving the steering wheel actually moved the wheels. It was then time to go gaze at the closed creds and take photos because everyone loves parks in the snow.

When we got to near the entrance we could hear live music. Turns out we could hear one of the awesome bands the park has, they're really cool.

After a while we moved on and it soon decided to snow really heavily. We were near one of the 2 million carousels of Efteling so headed inside. I love this carousel, it's so grand and the interior is still the original artwork and everything. It all just feels like you've stepped back in time, I love it.

The horses are quite fierce though, their movements are quite harsh. I can totally see why something like this would have been seen as a big thrill back in the day.

The snowstorm outside was still heavy

We didn't really feel like going out in the snow so we grabbed a hot chocolate and hoped to go and have a look at the Diorama. Unfortunately it was closed for a special event so we just sat and watched the carousel for a bit.

We went back out in the cold to check out some parts of the Forest of Forever again. This is when we realised that the park was actually quite busy. Stranger still, the Forest of Forever was RAMMED with people. I love it. Joey, what was you saying about people not wanting to explore at parks? I loved how loads of kids were all stood around the big tree Video listening to his stories. We mainly wanted to just go back and listen to the Indian Waterlillies though because it's amazing <3 Video

We also went back to the matchstick girl building because of the effect not working the day before. It was working now and it is just magical (if a little sad).

Next we decided to go over to Villa Volta, get our tickets for Raveleijln too while we were in the area. Villa Volta was great (obviously). We then went for a little search for food and we weren't interested in anything in any of the surrounded areas. However we did come across another random band.

402277_10152469673935360_534208504_n.jpg

The lead guy was amusing and the way they finished as they went behind the gate was brilliant. Before we knew it it was time for Raveleijln. Actually instead of it being the normal show we got a birds of prey show instead which was nice. Shame we didn't have the giant fire-breathing steampunk duck but the show was actually quite good fun. I didn't even know they did more than the normal show in the arena.

After the show the characters from the bird of prey show and the normal Raveleijln show were out to meet and greet everyone.

I still love the entrance for the arena. I especially love the fact that they built it with effects before construction started on the rest of the arena <3 #onlyatEfteling

530603_10152469683780360_310531070_n.jpg

We were starving now and we decided to just grab a hotdog from the ice rink place. It was just under €4 for the hot dog which seems expensive but it was really nice and filling. I also got a free hat "hat. HAT!" because of a promotion they were doing during Winter Efteling. I wasn't expecting much from this hat but the fact everyone else in the park had one and seemed happy to wear the rather Plopsa-looking hat it must be good. Good? It was brilliant, it really helped keep my ears warm, I was so happy with my hat I didn't take it off apart from when I went to bed and got to the airport.

482964_10152469683930360_719068849_n.jpg

Now fed and warm we headed over to Carnaval Festival for more Jokie. We also checked out the massive Jokie store. You could kit your whole child's life out with stuff from this store, it was pretty amazing. I've never seen so much tat themed to a character from a ride.

We then went on Vogel Rok twice just because there was no queue, it was warm and because it's awesome. We also did Monsieur Cannibal again just for the music <3

We headed back over to Anton Pieck land and we rode one of the spinny rides. It was spinny and felt old but in good condition. The up-keep of everything in this park just astounds me, you could tell it was old but it doesn't look damaged in any way or show any signs of wear and tear, not even Disney are this good at it. Whilst there we even saw some guys putting the repaired horses back on to one of the 2 billion carousels of Efteling.

As we didn't go into the Laaf people land the day before it was decided we should fully check it out. Turns out it's really detailed and full of little bits and pieces but is also a little terrifying.

So, going around the Laaf area was an interesting experience.

It was then time for some more Dream Cred. There was an actual queue! We were in shock because this was our first queue since arriving. Look at all the free orange hats lol...

71884_10152469741860360_1252464711_n.jpg

We opted to go to Polle's Kitchen, something that has been on our 'to do' list since it opened. There was quite a queue but it was only because everyone in front was in fairly large groups. We stepped inside and our eyes must have just lit up like little kids in a candy store. The moment had finally come when we'd get to eat in this heavily themed pancake paradise. We were overjoyed when we were sat next to the large animatronic oven in the centre of the restaurant. We loved how the back of the menu was all the characters from Pardoes World.

Pimp your pancake - lol

I ordered an apple pancake with some ice cream. *tears of joy and drooling at thought of it* Words cannot describe how incredibly amazing this pancake was. Just...I...*drools*

309745_10152469745870360_344855610_n.jpg

It might not look much but it just tastes sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good.

Then the oven started to do it's thing and play the Pardoes theme which made us really happy. Then Pardoes ENTERED THE RESTAURANT. We were clearly more overjoyed than everyone else in the restaurant. He had a clear route and was literally spending time with everyone at every single table, even if it was giving a group of adults a high-five. He was also playing about with the waiters. OMG the waiters! I've never seen a team of staff like it, all of them were happy, playful and just going the extra mile for everyone. They even put the best Disney staff to shame. I saw one of them carrying a small boy over to the kitchen to show him how the pancakes are made before taking him back to his table. Pardoes would take off their hats and put them on random guests and all sorts. I've just never seen anything like it before. I loved every moment of my time in that restaurant.

I decided I wanted to get more money out so used an Efteling ATM. They don't just put them into a wall, they build huge pieces of theming to put them in. Why? Because Efteling.

295304_10152469755010360_1637729206_n.jpg

The projections were in full swing by this point so we went to check out the one on Spookslot. We weren't sure if it was on and then went into the corridor next to it towards a campfire to find it was in there. Several ghosts basically just move about and say things. It's really affective.

76117_10152469754900360_800713645_n.jpg

When we got to the campfire on the other side we found the group of American singers. They were amazing and creating a really great vibe in the area.

148710_10152469755095360_1182883414_n.jpg

We decided that the Chinese buffet restaurant might be a nice idea after AquaNura but when we went to book a table we found it was all closed up. Later investigations with staff informed us that it was closed due to a private event during the day. Boo.

Oh well, we still got to see the building up close and I got to pretend I was Andre Rieu ( Video)

601316_10152469755300360_19911565_n.jpg

Next we made our way up to De Vliegende Hollander to watch the projection up on that. It's quite a cool idea but it'd have been nicer for more of the building to be used or something.

321374_10152469765150360_1143363418_n.jpg

At least we could stand near another fire while we watched.

550230_10152469762010360_1649485317_n.jpg

It was then back over to the Anton Pieck sqaure to ride one of the 2 trillion carousels of Efteling.

387061_10152469765800360_1097459045_n.jpg

We then rode Dream Cred again where we actually saw people not even get off, just go round again straight away <3

Then we saw the Villa Volta projection show again which was much better this time round as it was darker.

387577_10152469771370360_1800107347_n.jpg

We then grabbed some chips before watching AquaNura. Such an incredible show.

We then faffed about in the store before heading back to the hotel room. I had purchased a pack of Efteling style Kinder Eggs. I was so excited about what was inside. Turns out you get a little phone charm inside of a character from the Forest of Forever.

734850_10152469773775360_1371097457_n.jpg

We watched loads of Efteling TV before getting some sleep.

Sunday 27th Jan

When we woke up our delivery from the bakery was hanging on our door <3 Part of our order was wrong but it was ok, not a big deal. It came in one of those strong bags and you get to keep it.

This is the pizza oven in the restaurant <3 ...

530790_10152469773735360_1136616988_n.jpg

We made our way over to the park for hotel guest ERT (30 mins). We went through the secret entrance via the Octopus restaurant at the exit of Panda of Doom. We were silly and pretty much spent the 30 mins walking the long way over to Vogel Rok. Only we found out that Carnaval Festival and Vogel Rok had decided to not open till park opening anyway. So due to this we went on Monsieur Cannibal and enjoyed the amazing song.

When we were on the ride we noticed the other two rides open so we went straight over to Vogel Rok. We got on the first train of the day <3

Naturally we went around again before moving on to Carnaval Festival. When we got off the ride we noticed that Jokie and his little friend were actually in the station waving and giving high fives. We thought this was amazing.

537380_10152469774005360_1769105311_n.jpg

They never stopped moving so blurry pic was all I could get

We walked around aimlessly for a bit before heading into the Diorama, it's such an impressive display. All the little effects and lighting are just brilliant. As it's in the same building we decided to ride the indoor carousel again.

Then it was time for some Dream Cred and Villa Volta. So good :D

It was already time to start thinking about food so we decided to go up to the food court at the back of the park by Python. As we neared the area we could hear the call of the goons. Yep, we heard the anti-rollback of Pyhton. It had been raining all morning so it was washing most of the snow and ice away which was great (not enough for the other creds to open but still). We forgot how much of a trek it is up the Python queueline.

I thought it was a great ride on Python. I forgot how good the restraints were, very comfortable ride and very smooth. Riding in the rain was a little unpleasant at times but overall we both enjoyed it. Though Nic could only bring herself to call it "not bad".

We went over to the food court as planned. We ended up going to the kebab place which turned out to be a brilliant idea. It tasted really good and was very filling. Not like that was going to stop us from having the remaining Efteling Eggs. We got the tree and a giant.

14976_10152469774040360_463787457_n.jpg

150666_10152469774150360_1140345234_n.jpg

We also used the restroom in the court building (which is amazing). Jeez, the toilets were huge, such a large spacious area, very clean and loads of cubicles. I know it's a bit weird to talk about toilets but to find such a perfect example of what every single park toilet area should be like is very rare and you only hear about the bad ones.

Outside the rain had calmed and for some reason this meant that it was a good idea to go back on Python straight after food. We sat in the front and it was a very good ride.

419764_10152469777375360_1981396338_n.jpg

533733_10152469777535360_1664971562_n.jpg

We then walked down to Fata Morgana which was fairly busy. After that we realised we were running out of time so we chose to go watch Panda of Doom and hoped the tree effect was working. Turns out it wasn't, that made us a little sad.

530765_10152469777570360_103646827_n.jpg

It was then time to collect our bags and head to the bus stop. On the bus from Eindhoven train station to the airport we saw the guys from our plane on Friday (the ones that got a cab instead). They recognised us too and we were all amused. Little things.

Thanks for reading.

We both had such an incredible time. The staff were really amazing (especially those at the pancake restaurant of joy) and the village was an incredible place to stay. I want to go back already.

See, Madame_Furie keeps on badgering me to go to Disney (Paris) for my 40th, but I think we'd get much more from somewhere like Efteling - even despite losing out on "famous IP". This report cements it for me, I really want to go somewhere a little different

I doubt I'll get my own way mind

Brilliant and detailed report though Peep, really, really enjoyed reading it :)

^Seriously Phil, don't go to dirty DLP for your 40th when you can go to Magical Efteling. It's absolutely wonderful, please go XD

Part two also is a pleasure to read, thanks :).

Something that made me laugh really hard in your first part (and that I forgot to mention) is that you said The trollenkoning (king of trols) speaks dutch. He doesn't, he just mumbles and I don't understand him better than you :D.

Phil, your clan would ADORE Efteling. Its so much more 'you' than Disney. I can highly recommend staying at the Bosrijk too if you can find a deal at the right price. We got a good offer as we only booked a week ahead. It's a convenient, good quality flexible option which if you can get a deal, considering tickets are included, can be very good value. It also definitely added to the magic of our stay.

There's no point me doing a proper report because, well, PTR Peep has already struck, but I'll try and add a few thoughts and comments (and if you're really lucky one or two terrible photos) tonight when I get a chance :)
