Why spoil a ride?

tks

Strata Poster
After hearing that Thirteen was going to be on GMTV I instantly thought nothing of it. I've been following the construction from plans up to now, however recently people have been coming out with videos of what the inside section will be and I just don't want to know!

If you've been waiting over two years for a ride to built, why know every single thing about it in detail before you've even been on it? I'd rather have some mystery and a sort of excitement about going on a new ride.

For example I still haven't been on Saw yet, but don't have a clue what goes on inside the building because I want it to be a suprise (no matter if it turns out to be crap)

So, why spoil it for yourselves?

(by the way, thankyou to everyone on my facebook who posted so much crap about the ride this morning! Almost got spoiled by one post but I won't hold it against you too much...)

Fair play Ed if you've decided not to follow this. Part of my "enthusiasm" is to get wrapped up in everything, however, I will always try to take the actual ride for what is it on the day I ride it.

It's just different ways of enjoying the "sport". The ride hasn't been spoilt, as I don't believe in making final opinions until you've had the full experience yourself - I can detach myself from what I've read, heard and seen prior and treat it as a pretty much new experience.

Quick warning!

NO 13 SPOILERS IN THIS TOPIC OR YOU WILL GET A BAN!!!

Unfortunately the internet makes things all too easy to work out and find out...

Can easily look at all the plans and similar online, download and save them to peruse at leisure and what-not, so you can instantly work out everything...

Do wish the parks could find a way of keeping planning permission files secret from the net... Alas, I doubt it...

Gone are the days where you could leave on the last day of the season and come back next year to find a new ride has suddenly sprouted...

On a similar vein, I do prepare myself for holidays by watching POVs as research, but don't base sole judgement on ANY ride on a singular video, because most rides look crap on a POV, and we all know it's better to experience the ride and then judge it...

I don't see it as spoiling it to be honest.

Unless you have avoided looking at the layout, trains and don't even know what type of coaster it is and the first time you see it is when you first walk into the dark forest (in 13's case) I think that is the only time its 'unspoilt' and a complete surprise and thats great but I can't resist the temptation to find out what the coaster is and what it looks like.

As an enthusiast I can't wait to see the layout and what type of coaster it is and everyone guessing on the forums what it could be, (then eventually slating it  ) but its all part of the fun for me.

I can see how watching the video could be a spoiler but it doesn't give much away to be honest we already knew the layout.

After reading in the construction topic that it's to be shown on GMTV, I'm not going back in there until I've ridden it.

Ok, so it's obvious what the track actually does, but that could be worked out from seeing the ride construction in person. I don't want or need to know every detail about what happens inside. Ido see it as spoiling it for myself.

Also, quite annoyed at the Facebook thing as well. Fair enough, post all you want in the 13 construction topic, but a few of us actually use Facebook for things non-CF related and might not appreciate the spoilers.

As happens a lot, I think it's a case of "I know something you don't" and rushing to have the first opinion, even though nobody has actually ridden the bloody thing yet.

Have tbh I did not even know about the GMTV thing until I read facebook this morning. Then within 5 mins I had people texting me about it.

I actually found out what it does from a none CF member via text!

So I then watched the video.

I don't mind if its discussed but I don't want to be told in tedious details about 'how my friend knows but I can't tell', then don't mention it!!! It's a petty 'trump' card that enthusiasts do to try boost their superficial online ego.

I tried to keep spoiler free about what happened inside Saw but ended up giving into temptation and watching POV's still... when it came to riding it didn't really spoil anything. In fact I think it helped me enjoy it more as I knew where to look so I didn't miss some of the things Thorpe have put in the ride.

If I know I'll be riding a coaster soon (Prowler, for example) and I know nothing about the layout, then no I'm not gonna watch it and have it spoiled for me. I want it to be unpredictable, because it makes it more fun. With Voyage I had absolutely no idea what was coming next, which made it gave an element of excitement that can't be had when you know a play by play of the ride.

The thing with Saw they built the inside bit in the open at the most popular time of the year. I found it great on Alton's part that they can keep something hidden for the length of time but only to give up the surprise a week before it opens just seemed like it was all pointless. I stupidly watched the video even tho I don't know when ill get to the park.

Generally, being the no-lifer I am (and fan of CoasterForce videos) I know the general idea of layouts, and with upcoming trips I tend to study the parks I'm going to. Even though I know the layout and it's "spoiled", there's still the "What's it going to be like?" "Will it be fun/intense/etc?" element. I think I enjoy the latter more than having a surprise layout.

This wasn't just about 13.. I mean for something like that Fluch ride, I don't know much about it apart from the layout, and I don't want to know what goes on inside until I ride it. Otherwise there's no sense of anticipation or excitement for me.

I know how you feel, sometimes you want a good suprise without people spoiling it. This is like when I first went on Nemisis Inferno, I didnt know ANYTHING about the tunnel. I just thought it went up the hill lift.
