Volcano at KD?

Hello,

I think I am going to Kings Dominion this summer, and their coasters look amazing! Especially I305, Volcano, and Dominator. I cannot wait. But I havent heard a lot about Volcano lately, and I was just wondering what are some of your opinions on it? It looks like a fantastic ride, with an amazing launch. And I don't mind the shortness of rides, as long as the ride delivers.

Thank You!

^I'm in the same boat man. I'm going to KD this summer as part of the live trip. It will be exciting and i'm also wondering peoples opinions on those three rides (Other than I305 was better before the change)

Volcano is a decent enough coaster. It's not utterly jaw-droppingly fantastic, but it's a good ride. It's certainly not like anything else you're likely to experience at any rate.

I enjoyed KD overall. It's nothing brilliant, but there's a few "pretty good" and a lot of "that's okay" rides.

There's nothing inside the mountain, if that's what you're wondering. It's literally just a shell to hide the ride's (immense amount of) supports, all plunked on top of a concrete pad.

Jesus, the volcano is there to hide the supports? I'd hate to know how many there are inside it then judging on the ones that are exposed! Ugly bit of kit that ride is, although I've always wanted to ride it, it was always the coaster feature on the coaster TV shows.

I actually enjoyed it more than most when we went a few years ago. Not better then Dommy, and we'll see if it's better than 305 (trims on the drop suck) so this summer will hopefully prove me wrong.

I liked Volcano in so far as it's really weird and unique.

It's not actually good though.

^ Pretty much.

I hardly remember riding it to be honest :S.

Yeah, it's a bit of a Vekoma Stingray moment really - interesting, unique, but meh.

It's pretty painful on your shoulders (or, it was to mine, at least), and the 2 pre-launch launches are pretty weird.

The main launch vertically is decent, but the rest of the ride is rather naff.

Painful? I didn't think so.

Volcano is good, it would venture into great if it wasn't for the vile queue. It's throughput is terrible. If you can, ride it at the start or end of the day. Do not ever under any circumstance go near that queue in the heat of midday...

It is ugly, but its weird and good fun, and has the only barrel rolls I've been on that aren't awful.

Volcano was okay. I have to say I was a bit disappointed by it because I had heard so many positive things about it before I went. It's unique and the launch is pretty good, but apart from that I was underwhelmed. It also really hurt my ears because of the earring situation, but I wear much less now so I'm sure it wouldn't hurt as much.

Dominator remains on of my favourite B&M coasters. It's butter smooth (well, it was when it was at Geauga Lake, but it's still pretty smooth), and the whole thing rides pretty gracefully.

I305 was meh. Fast, pretty cool drop, but I rode it with the trims </3

Apart from I305, Volcano is my favorite ride at KD.
Volcano has an awesome first launch, cool turn around, really awesome second launch and ascent through the volcano and awesome inversions! I know most people say that they felt like all the heartline rolls were boring, but I just absolutely love them!
The train goes through the inversions so that your whole body goes through this awesome continuous spinning motion ....... I just love the feeling of being pulled slowly, diagonally. Its soooo much fun!

I305 .... ok I rode it with trims, and it was a really good coaster. Nothing OMG, top 10 or anything, but a really good coaster, that was pretty intense, it just completely lacked airtime.
THEN ..
trims off ..
holy crapper. the most intense roller coaster i've been on in my entire life. great airtime over the hills.
my favorite roller coaster!

Volcano's a fun ride, a unique ride, but not a great one. As someone who goes to KD pretty often, I have it as the distant 3rd-best coaster at the park behind I305 & Dominator. And even then I'd say Flight of Fear gives it a run for its money as 3rd-best.

It's biggest problem is that it has terrible throughput and almost always has the longest lines in the park. You absolutely want to follow the advice given above and ride it as close to opening time as you can. By 11:30 or so, you'll probably be looking at a 45+ minute wait.

Haha, how can one not love this coaster for its highly situated heartline rolls. I mean, the rider POV is incredible for this.

EDIT: Oh and not to mention the cool interaction with the support structure.

It's a fun ride and obviously unique, but not really that great.

By the end of this season I know it's gunna be bumped out of my top 10.

What sucks is it always has crazy lines. It's very re-ridable but not worth multiple times with such waits :(
It is good though. Just wish it was maybe a bit more intense, though it is oddly fun to slowly roll like that.

As for I305 I'm in the same boat. A week from now I'll know what I think but am a little worried about the "increased bite" on the trims that I heard about on YT.

We're talking about the coaster itself though, regardless of the queue...?

For sure! :)

Of course, but just had to point it out.
I've never ridden Volcano more than once a day because of the lines :(

Though this time I'll have ERT soo that'll finally end, AND Hypsersonic XLC isn't there now to hog an hour+ of wait time. Huzzah

Volcano was my 200th coaster. The memories... *tear*
But I did really enjoy it. It's not massively intense, and it could stand to be about twice as long, but it does its job.
