-CoasterMania is like enthusiast Christmas morning.
-Coastermania is my favorite day of the season hands down.
-My life sucks, I can't make it to CoasterMania this year.
I've heard nothing but good things about this CoasterMania event in the past, I was a part of a coaster club and completely capable of driving last year, but didn't feel comfortable going around such a massive crowd and attempting to mingle. Well after doing Banshee Bash at Kings Island and Holiwood Nights the previous week, I decided to stop being a wuss and go for it and I'm so glad I did!
Oh, and did I mention CoasterMania happened to fall on my 21st birthday this year? :drinking:
I left class around 7 on Thursday to drive up for Friday. The drive was easy to start out but after stopping in Mansfield at the same Arby's where my cousin and I stopped on the last thing she and I did together in Ohio in 2013, it got really annoying. My car started making this noise (I think I have a muffler issue :x ) and I found out I booked the wrong date at my hotel, forcing me to drive to another Motel 6 and pay for another room. So then I get up there, FaceTime my parents, put in my wake up call, and didn't get to sleep until 2 in the morning because of the train outside my window and the **** idiot who kept setting off the fire alarm in his room down the hall.
After three hours of sleep, I dragged myself out of bed trembling from sleep deprivation (or maybe I turned my AC up too much, IDK but I was trembling for some reason), got dressed, checked out, and headed for the best park on the planet!
Got a really awesome parking spot!
The lines to register were brutal but considering how the park was doing this for free I'll take it. I did hear it was more organized in the past, though.
Got my lanyard, ERT here I come!
Good morning, GateKeeper!
Nothing like a bit of keyholing to start your day!
First ride of the day? Millennium Force, of course! And I met my friend Brad and some of his friends and we rode together for a bit!
Millennium Force, like me, hadn't fully woken up that morning but it was still wonderful! That coaster... <3
There were lines for it but I'd wait allll day for this incredible coaster.
Raptor had been being a little **** all morning during ERT but it went up at the end, so Brad's friends and I double dipped on it in the back. It's definitely one of the weaker inverts but those wingovers are phenomenal.
After thoroughly whoring Millennium during ERT, ERT for Raptor, GateKeeper, Rougarou, and Millennium opened to passholding GP, so they let the enthusiasts have ERT of Blue Streak, Windseeker, and Wicked Twister. So I hit Wicked Twister twice.
Up next was GateKeeper, and on one of the last days it has on my top ten before Fury 325 bumps it right out in July.
I love how sleek and modern GateKeeper's station feels, but it has the weakest station of the three wing coasters I've ridden in my opinion, with the strongest being Wild Eagle's.
I love the view you get from the start of the ride.
It was awesome as usual! I rode with Peggy (an enthusiast who's kind of a local legend for having ridden GateKeeper 2200+ times...and she was dead serious about it the whole time, right down to the mechanical click counter she hooked to her belt loop to count her rides for the day) and greyed out on the drop I was so tired. But I loved it!
Went to go run stuff out to my car afterwards and snapped a selfie with Snoopy just to have an excuse to use my selfie stick.
Went to go get one in on Rougarou afterwards but my heart stopped when I saw an empty train. And then I got an awesome shot of it.
How is it even possible to break a B&M?
After that I headed over to the pavilion for lunch since I was in the earlier time slot.
The new picnic area is NICE!!! I loved it.
With 2000 goons converging on the park lunch was a little crowded but it was awesome still. They gave out free backpacks, hats, puzzles, and keyrings.
If you [strike]build it[/strike] provide free food, they will come...
My new CoasterMania bag!
And this is how it looks when Cedar Point tries to make you fat.
Tony Clark then made a really cool speech about the event, what will change next year, and raffled off the old Mantis station signs.
After lunch, I decided to race for the sky!
This is the shortest I've ever seen it! I was so pumped, I love this coaster!
And it was awesome! Nothing beats that launch, and I got a pop of airtime coming down.
Afterwards I decided to try Magnum XL-200's infamous ejector seat (front car, third bench) and HOLY **** IT'S AWESOME!!!! It feels no different from the rest of the ride up until the turnaround but then it gets relentless and by the time you hit the last two hills it's trying really hard to just chuck you across the park and showing absolutely no restraint. It made me like this coaster that I found underwhelming in the past. Definitely ride here next time you ride it!
Off to Millie!
I got second from the front and it didn't disappoint! Love this coaster, I greyed out on the overbank!
After that I thought I'd go grab a Rougabrew since it was so hot. It won't get you drunk at all, it's very light, and it's really, really good. Definitely try one!
After not getting a buzz off of that Rougabrew, I thought I'd hit GateKeeper again.
After running out to get my selfie stick to take pictures for a Valravn update (I'll post those in News & Rumors later) I thought it would be a waste to set it up and not use it for what the social media gods intended it to be used for.
Gemini was next for me. It's quite the Cedar Point classic and I really enjoyed my ride on the red side...and we beat blue sooo badly!
Afterwards it was off to Famous Dave's for my little unofficial birthday dinner!
Suzie, Tom, Brad, and I all met up for a light dinner so I could grab a legal drink.
Bottoms up! :drinking:
It wasn't nearly as strong as the ones I had in Mexico but it was still good.
I got this MASSIVE plate of ice cream totally free!
After getting back over to the park only to get screwed out of Raptor due to winds (while I was strapped in and ready to go :redhotevil: ) I bought myself a few birthday presents including this awesome shirt.
With wind having screwed us all, I sat through a bit of Luminosity and it was pretty cool. But then I heard Rougarou's chain and made a run for it.
I had heard that they didn't put lights on it on opening weekend. Well looks like they got around to it! It looks just as awesome as Banshee at night now!
So creepy! I hope Val looks this way as well!
New cover photo on Facebook!
Happy birthday to me, I get off Rougarou and Millennium goes back up!
And then the best thing ever happens! I'm waiting for the front and then I see another single rider get on, so I run through the crowd, the station gates start to close, so I make a break for it, and slip through the gates JUST as they're about to close like a boss! Everyone applauded so I yelled, "Woo! It's my birthday!" So front seat on Millie, at night, on my birthday. Can you beat that?
My phone died after that but after our ride, I got off and saw four enthusiasts that loved my energy and asked me if I wanted to hang with them! So we went to Maverick (which was an amazing night ride, the flash from the ORP blinds you completely going into the overbank and you have to know exactly when it hits to brace properly) and then Steven, one of the guys I was with, told me he hadn't ridden Magnum's ejector seat. So we went over there and hit the ejector seat at night. And then I came to a conclusion: Magnum at night ROCKS!!!!! Flying along the shores of the peninsula with nothing but the Magnum trail and some lights between you and total darkness is amazing. And the ejector hills...OH MY GOD!!!!! Getting nearly ripped from your seat at night is amazing! Don't miss this opportunity! Second best night ride at the park right there! We were able to ride again with nobody in line (and I complimented another enthusiast on her Smiler shirt  ) and got to do it all again and it was just as awesome. We then went back to Maverick, rode it at night again, and headed out.
After driving down the causeway, getting to Breakers Express, charging my phone, and getting the room number from Brad, I went upstairs to our room and just passed out.
The next morning, Brad and I were at the Point bright and early for the Millennium walkback! After almost being late and having to run to the marina entrance, we got there and started the day on the best steel coaster in the world!
Brad swore the best airtime was row nine so that's where we sat...and I have no idea what that guy in the background was doing.
Here we go!
Took this nerd shot getting back in line. I never noticed that they paint the bolts as well when they repaint a coaster, so newer ones should have unpainted bolts and older ones painted bolts. Are there any exceptions? I literally never thought about it. :?
Yet another nerd shot.
We then hit Maverick before the line got long. I love the new restraints on it, I can't say that enough!
They had this machine where you could make your own Coke can so I made mine! Considering how I have an unusual name spelled an unusual way, this was really cool! You can find it by Wicked Twister and make two for free. I made both of mine the same but you can make them different.
The wind was starting to pick up and I had to work that night so we decided to hit GateKeeper before I left and the wind shut it down.
The waves crashed on the shore as the wind picked up and our ride on GateKeeper drew closer!
After an incredible ride on GateKeeper as it prepares to leave my top ten for Fury, I bought a Magnum hat for 7 bucks and hit the road! What an amazing day! I love this park and I can't wait to go back for Rougarou Hullabaloo with Coaster Crew and the Live with everyone here on CoasterForce!
