Universal Olrando's new big budget

peep

CF Legend
It has been reported on MiceChat that Universal Orlando have a massive $1.5billion budget for the next 10 years. This budget covers the already under construction Potterverse Pt2 and Transformers, this apparently leaves about $850million left for more developments.

Rumours are surfacing that a whole host of ideas are in the running for the resort. The Seuss area is rumoured to be either getting a new attraction based on either the Lorax or the Grinch with possible re-themes of the Marvel area and maybe new additions to the Jurassic Park area.

The article over at Mice Chat is actually quite interesting and you can read it HERE

Disney better start putting more expansion plans together.

Indeed. Let's hope it spurs on the mass redevelopment of Hollywood Studios as a way of keeping up with competition.

I wouldn't be totally shocked by a Marvel Land retheme tbh. I know they have a special deal etc, but when push comes to shove, it is still a Disney product now and they might want to get away from that. It is a shame that Six Flags have the DC universe rights as I would have loved to have seen someone else do and do it better lol. I have no idea what they could change Marvel to though tbh. Especially when you have a ride like Spiderman that would take a humongous amount of changing.

That is one heck of a budget for the resort though. Fingers crossed it will also bring some more new attractions (other than Potter and Transformers) and not just rethemes too.

That's LOTS of monies! I'd hate to see a retheme of Marvel land, I really like t, and I HATE superheroes haha!

A new attraction for Seuss of Jurassic Park would be awesome, those areas need a new attraction or two now that Potter sits between them, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people surpass them.

I feel the money definitely needs to go into IoA. Yes they've had Potter, but the rest of the park now, in comparison, looks really old and slightly shoddy. It's still world class, but needs a bit of a boost to keep going.

I can see Marvel going though and ending up in a Disney Park, a re theme could be forced on them.

I really LOATHE the Disney/Marvel thing, it breaks my heart seeing Iron Man in the Disney Store, I can't imagine what I'd think seeing it in a park <//3

Same. I was the same when Disney bought Saban and had Power Ranger toys in stores. I'm sorry but just no!

I don't mind a singular attraction within a studios park (like Star Wars) but a whole land or even whole park can **** right off because its simply not Disney. I don't care what anyone else says. It will never be truly Disney to me.

I'd happily see IoA get rid of Marvel though. I detest Marvel tbh.

Also, I think you might be onto something with Jurassic Park Jordan. With the ever rumoured reboot of the film franchise it could be well timed to coincide with that (if it ever comes to fruition).

That's a LOT of dollar...

A couple of new attractions at IOA (be they minor or medium) wouldn't go amiss, bring back Triceratops Encounter I say! Same for the Studios really...

Looking at that report though, they seem properly serious in competing in such a high level against Disney with that clean-up... Excellent...

Dunno what they could do if Marvel had to go though... As mentioned DC might well be out of the question with Six Flags and Warner having the rights to that, so what could actually replace it with the rides available as a franchise? Unless Universal would have some form of plan in case of such an issue... Imagine no Spiderman though? :(

And no doubt the Jurassic Park Flyer Coaster rumours (based off the aviary scene in number 3) will return... Wouldn't say no, but maybe sommat else would work better... Wing-Rider anyone?

That encounter was awful, it was open when we last went and was the biggest waste of time.

:(

My childhood lives in that thing... I was actually disappointed when they closed it because it was an unique and different thing (in a similar vein to the Discovery Centre)...

The deal with Disney and Marvel says they can build Marvel based attractions at any park in the world, except for Florida. Florida won't be Disney Marvel'd ever. Every other park can use it, but it won't fit an existing park, because unless it is just a single attraction, it wouldn't fit at all. Which is probably why they are looking to build it in a new park for a test run i.e. the future third park in California.

I actually think that could work quite well having a seperate park for the Marvel franchise. It's obviously too big a clash to have it in an existing park, but the sheer number of films/characters would be able to sustain a seperate entity. Not my cup of tea, but the Americans do seem to love their comics, if six flags is anything to go by.

Read what I said. If they end the deal Disney can do what they want with Marvel.

I fully acknowledge that, but why would they end the deal? It just wouldn't make sense since they hold the rights in that area. Marvel superheroes are the big thing right now, and I don't know what they could replace it with on something of that scale.

They signed for so many years, for all we know its coming to an end I would need to look it up.

From what's been said before ioa can use DC as there is no Six Flags park there and Disney who own Marvel can use it.

Time will tell.

I can't agree more about the whole Disney/Marvel thing. Disney are fantastic with their original ideas and theming, it just seems a bit out of place adding a Marvel themed 'something' to a park, unless the rumoured extra Marvel park goes ahead, I'll be alright with that.

The thing is, Disney own Marvel, Universal at the moment own the license on using Marvel as a story, concept, theme & environment (everything). Once that contract runs up, Disney are either going to do one of two things; Ask for a ridiculous amount for them to keep the Marvel theming and merchandise in Universal, or, renew the contract but add Marvel to Disney, which kind of loses Marvel Island's charm. All this, meaning, Universal will either throw the contract out the window and retheme the whole area (such a costly procedure) OR keep it, not change a thing and pay the excess off on the contract. Personally, I think they'll actually do the latter, as much as I'd kind of like a retheme to see what concept they'd come up with for a new area (as long as its not **** Potter), I very much doubt that happening.

Yeah, I doubt Universal will re-theme the Marvel area any time soon, they only just updated Spiderman. I can't see it happening within the next 10 years.
