Park Review: Thorpe Park is one of my home parks (the other one being Alton Towers) and even though it doesn't bring the same level of excitement as new parks because i have been so many times, i still really enjoyed my day there. I think the park is nice enough with some interesting theming here and there and reasonable food although mainly fast food options. The efficiency left something to be desired as many of the trains on all coasters had some empty seats. The rides themselves are thorpe parks strong point as there are many really good ones in both the coasters and the flats. My 5 favourite rides at Thorpe Park are Colossus, Stealth, Nemesis Inferno, Detonator and Swarm. Overall its a nice enough park with some great rides although lacking are the quality of the water rides as only 1/5 of them are descent. Park Rating: 9/10
Now for the rides:
The Swarm: I had already ridden Swarm in March so this wasn't my first ever ride. My first ride on Swarm today was in row 4 on the right side and apart from the always super wing over drop, the ride was quite ordinary and average. However my second ride was in the front row on the left side and that was much better. I like Swarm because it is unique, fun and the wing over just feels so cool. I would reccomend you do try for the front as it definitely delivers the best ride experience. Another thing i noticed was a bit of roughness through the whole ride which makes me worry about what the ride will be like in a few years. Overall its a great ride although a little short and i do prefer Raptor slightly. Coaster Rating: 8.5/10
Detonator: I have not ridden detonator for quite a few years and i really didn't know why so i thought this time i would give it a try. I am so glad i did because even though it is small it provides such a great, intense drop and you get airtime all the way down, i was very impressed with this Fabbri drop tower. The negative is that it doesn't have the fear factor that taller drop towers have, but everything else about it is brilliant. Flat ride Rating: Great
Stealth: The words short but sweet describe stealth perfectly. There is not one part of this ride that isn't brilliant, the launch is super fast and intense, climbing the top hat is cool, the airtime over the top hat is great and then being pulled down the vertical twisting drop is awesome and finally the camelback provides some more great airtime. The restraints do tighten after the launch but it doesn't make much difference to the ride experience. Negatives about the ride would be that it is a little rough towards the back of the train, but nothing major and that it is obviously too short, however, it is still an awesome coaster. Coaster Rating: 9/10
Loggers Leap: Loggers leap is a descent log flume with a good double drop finale and happens to be the only good water ride at thorpe as all the rest are not very good. You get wet, but not too wet and it does some have some nice theming after the tunnel drop and before the double drop. Overall it is basically your average log flume. Water Ride Rating: C
Nemesis Inferno: I have a big soft spot for this coaster as it was my first B&M and one of my first big coasters, but on previous visits i saw it really just as an average B&M invert that's really nothing special. Along with detonator, nemesis inferno ended up being my most surprising ride of the day. I had my best two rides i have ever had on nemesis inferno yesterday, it was smooth, forceful and quite relentless until the very end. The ride has some good whipping over all the inversions and the final helix was pretty intense. It's not nemesis by any means, but i felt a major improvement on the rides experience from many previous rides. A lot of people say that all the newer B&M inverts are not that good, but it think this, oziris and black mamba prove otherwise. Coaster Rating: 9/10
Colossus: This is very much a love or hate ride because of roughness and vibration the ride is known for. I love this ride because its got lots of good inversions, some descent airtime on the dive under the gift shop and mainly because of the insanely awesome inline twists that provide some of the best hang time of any coaster that i have ridden. It is easily possible to not have a rough ride on colossus, all you need to do is sit at the front of a carriage in the middle or front of the train and you will have a really good ride experience. The difference between riding this and riding the other rides at thrope this day was that a lot of the rides had improved in my rating whereas this one just did not seem to be as good as before. It is still my fav ride at the park, but by a lot less of a gap. Coaster Rating: 9/10
Saw: The Ride: Although this ride tends to give me headaches because of its usual roughness i for some reason always ride when i come to the park and yesterday was no different. It was nice to be able to ride it with a tolerable amount of roughness, but i think that was mainly down to how lucky i was to be put in the seat i was. After riding this coaster many times it has become clear to me that the front row is always rougher and that's where i have had some of my worst rides and the edge of the car is also rougher. I was seated in the middle of the back carriage which was probably the best seat. I still think the indoor section is great and probably what keeps me riding this coaster, the outdoor section was also good on this ride because of the lack of roughness, but after the first drop the restraints locked very tightly so i did not get much airtime. Overall my ride experience was pretty good although i know what the ride is capable of so i am not going to raise its rating too much. Coaster Rating: 7/10
Rush: I do really like these screaming swings as they are really thrilling and can be quite scary and it is great they only have lap bars. I am not sure if this is the case with all the S&S screaming swings as it certainly wasn't for the one at Liseberg, but Rush seems to be very short and only get too full height on one or two swings which is the rides main downfall. However, it just adds to the great flat collection that thorpe has built up and is one of their best, but the one at Liseberg still kicks its ass. Flat Ride Rating: Good/Great
Quantum: I haven't ridden this ride since i was 6 or 7 and i hated it then. Watching the ride cycle from the queue i though it was going to be pretty dull. Luckily when i was on the ride it seemed to go for longer and seemed to go round non stop more times which was good and i thought the ride was actually a lot of fun. Flat Ride Rating: Good
Unfortunately, both Samurai and Slammer were shut which was a shame because they are both really good flats (especially samurai) and i wanted to ride slammer because of the rumor of it leaving the park.
