themeing of Colossus

What is the theme for Colossus? I think its something slightly oriental like something from a temple in Asia that together with the music surrounding the ride made me wonder what is. :?

Well, when I'm finished with it - the theming is immense JOY! <3

There's a reason that place isn't a family theme park.......

On a serious note, I'm going with lost city/azteca theming. Something along those lines :P

The "theming" (objects, buildings etc) might not be immense but the setting is great! All those heart-line rolls close to the ground and the ground hugging action where eg the cork screws seem to dissapear into the vegetation. I think it's very well done! Too bad the coaster itself is crap..

Colossus is one of many coasters which use a name to communicate it's best feature, in this case size - Reffering to the number of inversions.

It's theme, in my opinion, is loosely the idea that Colossus is an ancient, gigantic, worshipped artefact. Some sort of religious symbolism from an ancient, lost civilisation. You as a guest are rediscovering that city and the awe people once had for Colossus. I assumed that "Lost City" was supposed to be either Atlantis, or something similar.

There's concept art in the latest issue of ParkWorld of the 'Forbidden Temple' coaster by S&S that would look great in the lost City area. If not It'd be perfect for Chessington as a ride bigger than Fury but not too big to be off-putting. I can't find a pic online of it anywhere though.

Why would Thorpe put a coaster with the gimmick of a beyond vertical drop... Right next to another one?

Plus those S&S things are putrid. We really don't need more.

I've just found something official.

Thorpe Park Student Pack said:
The area is an ancient civilisation, once under the sea, now exposed on dry land.

And it also said:
In the Lost City area, these are a group of rides that have been 'discovered' in a jungle

So it's like Atlantis in reverse, the buildings and art are definitely Aztec-esque, which fits in with it being in a jungle.

Thorpe do have an atlantis area, Port Atlantis, at the entrance.
