The Merlin Entertainments London Eye and NEW attraction

Yep, that's it's new name!

After a multi-million pound refurbishment, the London Eye has gained a new lease of life, as "The Merlin Entertainments London Eye" complete with spangly new logo and a shiny new ticket office design.

However that's not all that has changed!

Your ticket will now include entry into the UKs newest 4D attraction, a 5 minute long introduction to the eye which features amazing* effects such as wind, smoke, bubbles and snow, all set to a soundtrack created by Goldfrapp and Coldplay.

(*amazing if you're 12)

Apologies for not posting anything about this sooner, but it's been top secret and contractual obligations and all that...

So, if you haven't been to the eye in a while, why not go along and experience the new 4D experience!

(it doesn't have a name as such, just 4D Experience!)

What a crap name.

Just leave it as the London Eye, most people will call it that anyway.

And I am sure with all their staff they could have come up with a better logo than that.

Can I ask what smoke, wind, bubbles and snow has to do with the eye?

I hate the thing anyway :)

Cheers for the info though Az.

The London Eye was boring, and is only a one time thing. You can't do it again without being bored out of your mind.

The 4D movie still won't incite me to take the 30 min borefest, nor will extending it's name...

Noticed the slight name change and logo yesterday when I was standing next to it. The logo is very meh and I'm not sure why they had to add the Merlin Entertainments name into it, sounds stupid.

I didn't notice any signs for this '4D' attraction though. May check it out at the weekend if it's already open. I take it Merlin Annual Pass holders can get into this new attraction.

Crikey, flame fest?

Apologies for posting some bloody news. I won't bother next time!

Whats so 4D about a documentary?

It isn't a documentary, it's a pre-show

Oh, and this 'top secret' news isn't so 'top secret'...

Yeah, that was posted on August 13th, the day it opened. I've known since January but whatever.

God some of you lot are bitter.

I'm not taking the eye stuff personally, because frankly I hate it too, I just hate the fact that I'm trying to post something interesting on here and everyone takes great delight in picking it apart...

Sorry :(.

I just get upset with Merlin, who claim to be better than Disney thats all it is with me really.

But am pleased you posted the info so we know whats going on as I dont look at loads of other sites.

LOL it's really funny, their monthly newsletters are titled "chasing mickey"

It's true that this is being oversold, a lot, but it's worth a go if you get a chance (only once lol)

No no, I just don't get how they can incorporate a docu.... pre-show into the Eye. One that only lasts 5 minutes. I think Merlin have lost what the Eye is about. It's one of the 'classy' attractions and additions like this cheapens it up. I dunno, I'll have to try it out.

It's quite seamless really, you are supposed to go into it before you go on the eye, but most people do it after.

It's inside the ticket office, and isn't a mandatory thing, although they are trying to encourage as many people as possible to go see it!

The eye classy? lol. It does look a hell of a lot tackier with all this new logo and show stuff, it's shiny, but it's merlin-ified now. The london eye as it was is now dead, with Merlin having their grubby money grabbing paws all over it!

The film itself is quite nice, it's not as good as it could have been, and it's blurry in places (which is disappointing considering the hype we've had all year) but it's a nice introduction to the eye.

Plus it has the first ever fireworks show filmed in 3D (although it's not as amazing as they are making out!)

I went to see it today (not my whole reason of being in London) and those fireworks actually scared me, do not want any more 3D firework films.

Overall it was quite nice, the effects worked well together (the bubbles really surprised me). Though it was slightly annoying that you have to stand rather than having seats, then again it only lasts for 3 mins.

Az, I reckon that the blurry parts is where they tried to do some 3D gimmickry and it failed.

Its a clever idea, it'll probably mean that the queue is disrupted by entertainment making the queue a less daunting idea. It'll also mean people won't think they've been queueing for as long, won't it?

It's a bit gimmicky but if its good, its good.

EDIT: Oh, its before the queue. Then it won't make any difference at all.

I hope they chemical clean those glasses after every use, much like Hocus Pocus. I think its gross when companies don't do this and if they don't, I'd rather skip it.

Yeah they do, although I haven't seen it, there is a dedicated glasses wash room lol.

Apparently they have 400,000 pairs of glasses on site, with orders for more lmao.

yeah, they are quite in your face aren't they! I won't spoil too much for people who haven't seen it, but some of the other images used in the film have reduced small children to tears! haha.
