On the Sunday we headed to Crealy Great Adventure Park near Exeter.
We arrived shortly before 10am to discover a few bus loads of Scouts waiting to go in. Urgh. We also didn't realise that the park opened at 10:30 so we spent the first 40mins feeling pissed off. Well, I did.
At 10:30 we got in the park to find everything shut! We did a quick scout around the park but only the **** slides and play areas were open. Jordan and I had a quick go on the metal slides. The play areas are for kids, the park's target audience.
We were getting a bit irate that nothing (ie: the cred) was open so Jordan asked. 11pm. Everything opens 30mins after the park opens. That's really silly. I'd expect one or two rides to be open. So we minced around the shop, ate crisps and looked at boring meercats.
Around 11am, the cred opened.
This coaster's name is Maximus Crealius, Commander of the Shed-like Tunnel of the North, General of the Romanesque station building, loyal servant to the true emperor, Angela Wright MBE. Father to a rethemed ride, husband to a Vekoma mine train. And it will have it's vengeance, in this life or the next.
After two uninspiring laps and watching the ride op pull apart a wheelchair, we had the cred on our count list and looked for something else to do.
We headed into The Wilderness...
Vadge bent over double with laughter. She spotted the **** attraction ever - The Soak Zone!
Passing by some turkeys we went deeper into the wilderness!
Oooh, exciting!
Even more exciting was the Wild Things Lookout building! It's where little girls can look for badgers and badgers can hide in the woods looking at little girls.
Badger was nowhere to be seen so we walked on further into the wilderness!
Hurrah! Activity!
I followed Jordan to make sure she was safe.
The Wilderness also had several different obstacle bridges crossing a stream. They were quite good fun.
There were also some animals penned up in a neglected area of the park. It was meh. They looked surprised to see people.
Vadge, peep and Jordan wanted to watch the show in the circus tent. Something about getting points for the League of Goons. The show was awful and I protested enough until we upped and left part way through.
We walked around the park to see what else was on offer. Crealy Devon is one of the most boring theme park I've ever been to. It's not even "so **** it's good". It's turd. Other rides include bumper boats, a carousel, log flume and a pirate ship. There is nothing special about the park. It's full of obvious and bland ride choices with an inconsistent attitude towards theme. There was some theme going on - like Maximus - but it was sparse. Crealy Cornwall is MUCH better and has an atmosphere 10 times better than Crealy Devon.
The new attraction for 2013 is the Safari Express (complete with play area in the middle). The theme is quite good. I <3 the massive gorilla.
In a nutshell, riders sit on a train...
...that passes by plastic animals.
The jungle train was pretty dull but it was declared to be "better than Pufari at Chessington". I'll withhold judgement until I've been on Zufari.
The only other worthwhile ride was Vortex - The "Water Coaster"! I refused to ride it because it's not a coaster, it's a water slide. Jordan and peep went on it.
By now we had our fill of the park and decided to leave.
Perhaps I'm being too harsh on Crealy Devon. It is a family park so it's not geared at me...but then again, there are many other family parks in the UK that do offer something different and interesting enough for an adult. Perhaps Crealy Devon isn't terrible but it is definitely bland.
After Crealy Devon, we went to the Sea Life Centre in Weymouth. I left my Merlin Anal Pass at home but the LOVELY KIND lady let me in after double checking my details. I was greatful cus there was no way I would pay £22 to enter it. the place is fab, but not £22 fab.
The Sea life Centre in Weymouth, Dorset, is actually quite fab. The different exhibits are in separate buildings and guests have to follow a trail around.
Our reason for visiting was to try out the log flume manufactured by abc rides. It's really small and basic but it's really cute! The crocodile boats are gorgeous! Best ever log flume boats imo.
It also packs a punch and managed to moisten myself, peep and Jordan. Vadge sat out. Weymouth's Sea Life centre also has a small ride area, which appeared to be a shrine to Zamperla kiddie rides.
If you ever find yourself near Weymouth, the Sea Life centre is worth doing imo (if you have a Merlin pass or BOGOF tickets). The log flume is ace.
We even managed to find the "hidden" Smiler logo...
So that's it! The Big Sheep was ok, exactly what I expected. Crealy was bland and disappointing. Weymouth SeaLife Centre was a pleasant surprise. Thanks for reading.
