Th13teen to close on Friday 13th?

Ollie

CF Legend
Just read this on Altons official Facebook page.
Following reports, Alton Towers Resort can confirm the temporary closure of TH13TEEN on Friday 13th August. This is a decision which has taken careful consideration following in-depth research. Findings show 1 in 3 people will change their behaviour on Friday 13th and we feel this is in the best interest of our guests,... given the name of the ride.

The rest of the Resort will be open as normal.

Even though the whole thing screams 'publicity stunt' it's a huge risk for the park to take for the sake of it being Friday 13th. Even if it does open that day saying things like this will cause people to cancel trips and not go that day as they were wanting to ride the new coaster.

I really don't understand what they're on about. Is it just a PR stunt? If it is then it makes no sense because as you have already pointed out, it's going to put people off going to the park that day. Weird.

Publicity stunt.

A week before, they'll announce that due to "pressure", they'll be forced to open it, but would anyone actually dare to ride it that day?

Well, spend £40 and queue for three hours to find out... ;)

Ugh what an awful publicity stunt. Merlin really are a joke.

EDIT - They've just blocked me from commenting on stuff on their Facebook simply for saying it's a publicity stunt. What a pathetic company Merlin are.

I actually think it will be running that day and this is purley to get attention. Surely it would be the BEST day for it to run with the relation?

Maybe a coverup for an annual manternence day. They have to be done after so many hours of operation surely?

Although Merlin own the park, they aren't behind these stunts, Alton's own PR team are...

If you're gonna blame someone, blame the RIGHT people please...

And it's well within their right to block you on their Facebook if they want... You're effectively preventing their sales by turning up and going 'OMG IT'S A PUBLICITY STUNT' (and based on your post, I doubt that was the only thing you put), so yeah, grow up...

Look, the ride will be open. It's just AT capitalising on a "spooky" date that shares similarities with their new ride.

Yes it's unimaginative but you can't knock them for trying. Well, we can because we're enthusiasts and we know best

I'm tempted to just delete this, since we're giving their stupid(est) PR stunt even more attention, but I won't.

Really, one stupid PR stunt per year is bad enough. This is just overkill now, especially considering how crap the ride actually is.

Is it just me who is starting to really get sick of these stupid PR stunts? Turning more and more into Ryanair with the silly statements every season.

Lol we will see, i have got an alton trip planned for Friday 13th august, and i genuinely S*ite myself when i read this post, it hasnt put me off, and if it is closed i will have to complain, im not paying £30.40 to not get all of the rides. I love Alton but am sick and tired of theese stupid stunts, i think there starting to cry wolf a little bit, Because if thirteen is open on 13/8/10 who is going to believe them when a ride is genuinely closed, :x

Well blow me down with a feather duster!

Th13teen has been renamed Fourteen (just a minute... Erm... Fou14teen?) for tomorrow and WILL be open.

I was so shocked, completely and utterly...
