Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Pleasurewood Hills is hinting at a new ride (apologies to PWH, I can't work out how to embed the Facebook post)...

EDIT - I think it's just a new train for Wipeout, but we'll see. I think someone has embedded it for me, so thanks very much for that.

Since Mr Danter took over the pleasure park in 2015 he said he’d spent more than £12m on rides and has spent more money on a new dodgems ride arriving in the coming weeks. He added: "I promised the people of Barry I’d bring the golden days back for them and I believe I’ve achieved that."
Does stuff cost a lot more in Wales? Aspro claiming to have invested £25M at Oakwood (for a couple of small second hand coasters and a Disk'O) and Mr Danter claiming £12M at Barry Island (for an SBF Galaxi and some fairground rides).

Reading this article you'd picture a big thriving park rather than a fairground on the site of a small historic park.

Mr Danter has also said that he’d ideally like to build it on the site of Cardiff Airport, which seems like a non-starter.

If he wants to build a big theme park in Wales, then all power to him; as someone who lives less than an hour from Cardiff, I’d certainly be a very willing beneficiary of a South Wales park built further east than Oakwood!

The once-exclusive Spaceship Earth Lounge at Disney World's Epcot will soon welcome all park visitors. The lounge was previously known as the Siemens VIP Center, which was always attached to Spaceship Earth. It was exclusively used by corporate participants to entertain guests, however, all Disney World visitors will have access to it as soon as this spring. Source

Andy Fuller, Pleasurewood Hills Head of Sales and Marketing has posted this on LinkedIn:

So it’s confirmed, in addition to incredible work bringing the track a new life, the 2.0 of Wipeout will feature a new train. This will come with waist restraints in place of the traditional over the shoulder. We can’t wait to welcome thrill seekers and fun lovers for an exciting season.

Confirming the new train, seems to be the same as Prater's Boomerang. Which I believe is a Schäfer built train.

On my list this year, as we heed Andy Hine's call to support small UK parks this year.

Be good to be reunited with the old girl once again. :)

Holiday World & Splashin' Safari has acquired Santa's Cottages, a 23-acre lakeside resort in Santa Claus. This is the theme park's first acquisition in its 79-year history. The park aims to become a multiday destination by offering fully furnished units and recreational areas, including lakes for cat-and-release fishing, walking trails, playgrounds and a pool. Source
Should make HoliWood Nights even better!
