Silver Dollar City to remove Ozark Wildcat

It was only a matter of time.

Here's a good drone flyover that was recently done of the park.

Does anyone know why this park shut? It looks like a really nice park and The Wildcat looks excellent.

The park originally opened as Branson USA in 1999, but closed in 2001. (Hard Rock Park anyone?) Herschend bought the park up, added rides (including Ozark Wildcat), and reopened the park in 2003. The intent of Celebration City was to be a nighttime amusement park, remaining open after Silver Dollar City closes. However, the park never succeeded, and was closed for good after the 2008 season.

The GCI will probably get pulped. Can't believe anyone would dream of buying it now, but stranger things have happened.

Sad too, since it was such an awesome ride. Ozark Wildcat was the first GCI I rode that I actually liked. Up until that point they were more about show/looks and not being aggressive and having airtime. I was shocked how good the coaster was because in 05 people weren't really talking about it yet, even 2 years into its life. The SDC/CC concept was a good one, they just had a hard time getting people to buy into it. The idea was to start your day at SDC and once that park closed for the day, you would head back down into Branson from the hills and spend the night at CC on the main street where all the hotels and night shows were. But getting people to pay +$40 twice in a day didn't work out well.

^Did they not offer some kind of 2-park package? Parks make most of their money from in-park spending rather than gate sales, so just getting people through the gates should've been a priority.

I don't remember if they had a combo or not, I think they did (this was 10 years ago :p ) but even if there was a combo, I'm not sure if the type of people going to Branson were gonna be the kind to get it. The city is known more for being 'Vegas without the Casinos" its full of shows and things (that to me) seem to be for older-older people.

Well at least I now feel comfortable riding a GCI in gale force winds.

Always sorry to see a roller coaster topple.

^I wouldn't be too sure. 13 bents fell off the lift hill of Troy when Gale Force winds hit it during construction.
...During construction.
Did you not watch this video, that coaster but up a hell of a fight then.
