Should I get Windows 10?

Well?
My PC keeps offering to upgrade to it - I have 8.1 at the moment, which I've got fairly used to but it still annoys me due to user unfriendliness. I liked Windows 7, I'm wondering if I keep upgrading its only gonna get worse...

No jokes about literal windows please, tbh I'm struggling to think of a window joke that would work in this context anyway.

I upgraded my desktop from 8.1 about a month ago and so far I like it. 8.1 was alright, but ended up getting used to things I didn't really like (no start menu was something that I missed - call me old fashioned), 10 has fixed most of them. I haven't really used any of the 'new' features yet though. I don't really think Cortana would do anything for me as I don't have voice input and I can Google something just as quickly, but maybe on tablets and mobile? I know they're trying to make the entire platform familiar across all devices, so I don't really need those sort of things. Haven't used Edge, why would I when Chrome exists?

I've got a relatively new, pretty decent, gaming/media desktop, and it's not got very much on it, but I think it actually got faster when I did the upgrade - although that might just be psychological. ;)

That being said, I'm not going to upgrade from 7 on my older laptop, I use it relatively infrequently now and I can't really be bothered. It can be a bit temperamental as it is, so don't see the need.

Simple answer really. If you have Windows 8 or 8.1, upgrade to Windows 10. If you have Windows 7, don't bother.

I have Windows 7 and stuck my down for the upgrade a couple weeks ago. Nothing's happened since though so starting to wonder if it did actually work.

Yeah, it will have provided you do all the steps in the signing up process. I think it took mine about a week and a half (maybe two) before I got the notification saying that it was ready to be installed.

Hixee you upgraded from Windows 8 or 8.1 didn't you? As far as I know Microsoft hasn't started the free upgrades for Windows 7 yet.

^my brother went from 7 to 10 with free upgrade in roll out week.

Personally I never had a problem with 8, but I do like 10 better so far.

I went from 8.1 to 10 on my desktop, but I got the notification on my laptop at the same time.

I have a friend who opted in to the upgrade from 8.1 at the same time as me and he got the upgrade right away, whereas mine took a week or so. I don't know there's much of a pattern in it.

I agree. I got my notification about three weeks after Aidan got his even though I "reserved" my copy long before he did and I'm still waiting for the notification for my Windows 7 laptop even though that was the first I reserved it on.

My wait has been longer then that and I believe I have done all required steps. Below is all that comes up if I try checking on the progress:

Well then I guess you wait. Have you tried doing some research into how long it takes (or where to make an inquiry)?

I 'forced' the upgrade on my old Win7 and new Win8.1 machines... the new one has now broken (not related to W10) so I have been using my old m/c (which started out on Vista) with W10 for a little while. I think it works fine on it, definitely boots up quicker (from off to desktop) than it ever did under Vista or 7 anyway.

Hmmm... sounds good, and the return of the start menu is very appealing. I'm gonna go for it :p.

If you haven't updated already, Windows 10 is fantastic but please check with your computer manufacturer first. As far as I know, HP is having a bit of issues transitioning the existing computers. I would say the drivers are the one that are making the transition hard from personal experience. Windows 10 is fantastic and its what Windows 8 was supposed to be. So I would consider getting it.

Ah ok, thought it was just me. My laptop is HP and has been having problems transitioning so I'm still on Windows 8 for the time being...

Windows 10 has spyware?
But aside from that joke I prefer windows 7 bpmore than any other os. That's just me though.

^I agree. Everyone says it was crap, but it was fine for me. Not a single blue screen.
