Seaside Heights Boardwalk on fire

A year after Hurricane Sandy and Seaside Heights on the Jersey Shore is being devastated again.
I just left Mt. Olympus when I started to watch the local New York City news on my phone and they're showing the Seaside Park boardwalk going up in flames.
Since I'm pulled over at a highway rest area, there's no way for me to post any links to the news footage and I'm not sure of what damage the fire is causing to the coasters/rides.
I'll try to post more info as it becomes available, but I'm pretty sure that Eyewitness news (along with other NYC news websites) should have something already posted since they have been covering the blaze for nearly three hours already.

Pier is called Funtown Pier, owner is Billy Majors. 75% of the pier was removed after the hurricane and a few rides were leftover for Funtown to reopen in the future. According to reports the fire started at the Kohr's Custard shop right across from Funtown and quickly spread under to the boardwalk into Funtown Pier. Three of the rides at Funtown Pier sit on concrete pads completely disconnected from what's left of the pier, but the heat from the flames could still damage the rides. Fire has spread north across the boardwalk due to the winds and has covered about 1/4th of the distance to Casino Pier, the neighboring competitor. The entire boardwalk was evacuated along with some homes near the fire.

watching NBC nightly news and they made reference to sandy and the jet star and then showed footage of the fire destroying a large section of the fun town pier. from what i understand, most of the board walk has been destroyed.

TPR have shown pictures of what was left up in flames and its destroyed all the rides that were left, so god knows.

It's hard to get the news in the UK tbh.

The house at the southern corner of the pier completely caved in just a few minutes ago. The pier gave out from under it and then the fire burned down what was still standing.

The spread of the fire has been stopped at Lincoln Avenue, and Firefighters are trying to prevent it from spreading further. They dug up a part of the boardwalk in order to fight the spread of the fire. Current reports state that the southern end of the boardwalk is completely lost due to damage.

Read an interview that the fire started under the boardwalk UNDER the custard stand. Funtown Pier is completely gone, as is everything from Kohr's north to Lincoln Avenue. The 30mph winds were just kicking the firefighter's a$$es, so they used Lincoln as a firebreak.

This fire is taking out a huge swath of a small town that lives off of the beach traffic it gets. The town that Casino Pier is in has a live webcam of the boardwalk and it's picked up the inferno, all day and into the night.

Casino Pier staff updated Bookface to let everyone know that they aren't in danger at this time.

Contrary to reports stating that "80% of the boardwalk is gone," the stretch between the southern tip of Funtown and Lincoln Ave. is only about 25% of the total boardwalk. Lincoln Ave. isn't even halfway to Casino Pier from Funtown.

What a stupid counter-comment, he was merely posting to correct the reports, not playing it down.

A fire of this magnitude is bad enough, but I can't even imagine how the residents are reeling after both Sandy and this. Hopefully they choose to rebuild and can bounce back quickly.

Investigation started today, they're not ruling out arson. Gee rollermonkey, your half-hearted jab seems to have some merit!
