Rides that would die without their theme?

A lot of rides seem amazing due to their invested themeing. But don't you think some rides would be nothing without it? Just the kind of ride that you'd ignore and critiscise?

What rides do you think would lose their appeal if it wasn't for the theme? and why?

Pretty much anything at Disneyworld I am guessing. I mean, Rock n Roller Coaster, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Space Mountain would all be nothing without their theming, and certainly not better than average!

Dueling Dragons is probably another one, because I heard the ride actually isn't that great.

I'm thinking thigns like Hex and stuff would lose their appeal as well if it weren't for the theming.

I reckon most of those Maurer Söhne spinning coaster would be pretty awful without their themes. For example Winjas, Crush's Coaster, Spinball etc all seem to be popluar due to the heavy theming they incorporate.

LOL! Saying Hex would is like saying Snoo would struggle to run a little without his legs! :p

The Disney coasters aren't too good even with the theme - they're all about the theme!

Nemesis would be very meh without the landscaping around it.

Considering there is no theming during the actual ride, DD would be the exact same ride without the theme. The only difference would be a boring queue.

Any ride that depends on its theme for excitement would die. All others will still fair without their theme, just be less exciting than before. e.g. Disaster Transport.

I think mostly quirky kiddy rides would die without a theme. Big coasters are still amazing for the most part. Nemesis with your eyes closed is still a very powerful ride. Whereas Dragon's Apprentice is just pants without all the pleasant eye candy and Rattlesnake would just be a bog standard coaster.

And furie's right, most of DLP's coasters are meh anyway. I don't see them as coasters to be honest, more of an experience with flashy lights and such.

I'd run on my stumps.. just to see. :p

Obviously Disney coasters.. but I'd venture to say Lost Coaster at Superstition Mountain (Indiana Beach) would be dead without question.

I think Dueling Dragons would be ok though.. because there is no theme when you are actually riding.

Mystery Mine

Fluch von Novgorod

Dragen (Legoland Billund)

Black Mamba?

Those are the ones I can think of.

^I still think Black Mamba, if you put it in a similar setting as Nemesis (without the theme) it would still be a good ride.

^Yeah, I thought so too, but if you count the trenches as theme, it may suck. Mamba would be bad on a car park...

Though, I guess that goes for all coasters. On a car park, you can only rate a ride on its forces, because there is nothing to add to it. No objects darting past. No chilly trenches, no setting building up suspension before the ride. Strip any coaster, and it would suck.

Mamba would be awesome wherever. It's theme to just adds to the already amazing ride that it is.
It's theme takes it from a thrill to a thrilling experience. :D

I think Spinball actually needs more theming. When you queue, it's evident that it's a pinball themed ride, but as soon as you get on the ride, you just don't notice any theming at all and it's just an ordinary ride which is kind of a shame :(

I think probably the closest to mamba or nemesis without the theming would be the batman series - Only been on the parque warner one - but thought it was excelent!

no theme bad ride!

I think Saw:the ride without a saw theme would wreck the point of this ride. Imagine it without the indor but or the queue. It would just be the same as rage or speed.

^Well.. most Eurofighters have no theme and are doing just fine. I wouldn't say most.. but yeah.

Saw wouldn't DIE die.. but it would suffer quite a bit.
