Rank European Countries (by coaster quality)

Coaster Hipster

Giga Poster
With North America and Asia, Europe is one of the three big continents in terms of rollercoasters. It is also a very fragmented region with no less than 49 states. So which country in Europe do you think has the best coasters ?

In my opinion, the Swedes have the most amazing coasters overall with the trio of Helix, Wildfire and Balder as well as many other good additions like the ones at Grona Lund.
Next is Germany because of EGF, Taron and Black Mamba. Also noteworthy are some of Europa Park and Heide's coasters.

In third position I would choose Italy for its mix of iSpeed and Katun.
Spain comes in 4th thanks to its magnificient Shambhala but also a good choice of B&M rides (Superman, DK, Batman...)

Then it's France who has two good inverteds and two small but fun airtime machines (Timber and Alpina Blitz).

Obviously a personal list but apart from Sweden I find it very close and difficult to chose from.

Germany probably easily tops out tbh.

Spain slightly ahead of Sweden for me, quantity over quality.

UK next.

Germany is first by far. Classic Schwarzkopfs, Phantasia, Europa, Heide, Hansa, all these great parks in a single area.

Next is a tie between Spain and Sweden. I think I'd edge Spain over Sweden a bit for weather, but otherwise, both have fantastic coasters that can pretty much be matched to one another.

I think Denmark is next, as it not only has some fab culture(imo, but it also has a ton of great, small parks like Djurs, the Tivolis, Legoland, and Farup.

Next is Italy. There are quite a few unique and intense-looking rides here. iSpeed and Katun especially.

Next is the Netherlands, though not by much. Duinrell, Efteling, and WH all look fab. The only reason Denmark is slightly ahead is that it has a tad more culture and parks I like.

Next is the UK. AT and Thorpe look pretty neat. Paultons looks like a really good family park. Although only a few coasters are world class. Quantity over quality here.

I think Turkey could go here. Tons of new parks are popping up, and they all look pretty decent. Especially that Intamin accelerator. <3

Next is France. Like UK, it has a ton of quantity, but only a few quality rides. It appears that there are loads of parks with 1-3 coasters, but most seem to be clones and or kiddie creds.

Next is Belgium. Only 3 look outstanding to me, which are WB, Plopsa de Panne, and Bobbejaanland.

I think that's all for now.

If I could only visit one European country for coasters, it'd be Germany for sure. Then comes Spain or Sweden.

Top 10
1. Germany - It's kind of an obvious #1. The coasters and parks are high in quailty and there's so many of them.
2. Sweden - Helix looks like the most perfect coaster ever and Wildfire looks even better.
3. France - I think France is underrated. It's got a mega-lite, highly rated B&M (monster) a Gravity Group woodie. OzIris also looks like one of the best Inverts out there. And don't get me started on the iconic Big Thunder Mountain and Casey Jr. le Petit Train du Cirque - such kwality koasters.
4. Spain - I thought everyone was overrating Spain, but thinking about it there's a lot there.
5. Yew Kay - Has the amazing Alton Towers and The Ultimate. Even Thorpe and Blackpool can be good.
6. Italy - 3 handsome B&Ms + iSpeed + the Rome parks.
7. Netherlands - Efteling + Troy + Goliath + Lost Gravity + Dwervelwind
8. Denmark - I need to ride Tornado! Djurs and Farup look like perfect family parks and it has Rutschebanen.
9. Turkey - There's a big gap between 8 & 9. It has 2 intamins, but I don't know what else to say. Is it in Europe?
10. Belgium - Apart from Plopsa it looks dire. I almost went for Finland.

1 - Germany- good coasters and lovely parks
2 - Denmark - polar xplorer + piraten + farup = YAY!
3 - Sweden - just below denmark - maybe wildfire will fix that!
4 - Holland - Joris ftw!
5 - UK - Alton, thorpe, blackpool, ably backed up by drayton and now paultons and a few others.
6 - France - quite a few parks, of varying quality
7 - Spain - PA and parque warner are the stars here.

Haven't done italy or belgium (shock horror)....

Sweden and Germany seem the best. Then probably Spain, Denmark and Netherlands.

Also, pink panther, Finland is deffo better than Belgium. Junker blows Anubis away and the other coasters are better and more interesting than the Belgian ones. Belgium is truly a poor country for coasters.

What's so special about Spain? Apart from 4 B&Ms all of the other coasters there are (or at least seem) pretty poor. If it weren't for Shambhala, I'd certainly say UK has a better coaster selection than Spain.
But I do agree, Germany and Sweden do indeed seem the best. France, Italy and Netherlands are also quite solid contenders.

They seem to be be above average for B&Ms too. Plus there's also Baco, Abismo, Tarantula, Tornado, Stunt Fall - I think they look cool. Also, the tallest coaster in Euorpe looks like it could be hilair.

Good, but not a top 2 country.

The UK only has one coaster that really interests me, Nemesis. Aside from that everything seems lacklustre. It's crazy how a country with so many coasters has so little quality. Spain has 4 B&Ms that all seem great, and then some decent back-up coasters. Those 4 standouts are already more than what most other European countries have.

Italy, France, Denmark all interest me more than the UK.

Good, but not a top 2 country.

If those coasters are above average, I wonder which are the ones that are below? Granted, Shambhala is great, but I can hardly see what's so good about the others. Dragon Khan is average at best and while I haven't ridden the Spanish Batman, I didn't find its clone in California to be anyhow good. Compared to the other B&M Inverts I've done, I'd say it's well below average, rather than above... Granted, I haven't ridden Superman yet, but I doubt it is THAT good, that it could make Spain a top country with only 2 great coasters...

It all comes down to what you enjoy. I personally love both Dragon Khan and Shambhala. Superman is usually considered one of the best floorless coasters. In Italy for example, the only coaster that gets universal praise is Katun. I've heard more negative than positive things about Oblivion, Altair and iSpeed, and while Shock and Raptor seem fab, they are hardly top tier coasters. I won't know until I ride them though.

This is ignoring all park quality. In that regard, it would be a totally different list (France and Denmark would jump ahead)

1. Germany - So many coasters I wanna ride here. It is the obvious choice for #1. GeForce, Black Mamba, Colossos, Taron, and Kärnan all look absolutely amazing.
2. Sweden - Sweden has the benefit of having three of the best looking coasters in the world in it: Helix, Wildfire, and Balder (arguably). However, it doesn't have much else apart from maybe Twister.
3. Spain - Spain has one of the world's best coasters in Shambhala, and it also has some really good ones in Dragon Khan, Baco, and Superman. The rest isn't too memorable, but the lineup is alright.
4. UK - The only great looking coaster in the UK is Nemesis. It has some good ones in Stealth, Megafobia, Wild Mouse and Oblivion however it is mainly quantity over quality. Still, quantity helps with overall quality.
5. France - France is lacking any top roller coasters however it has quality ones like Alpina Blitz, Tonnerre De Zeus, OzIris, and Monster. It also benefits from greatly themed coasters at the Disney parks.
6. Italy - Italy luckily has iSpeed and Katun, but everything else is pretty forgettable except maybe DiVertical and Altair.
7. Netherlands - It has two great GCIs, an amazing Intamin, and not much else.
8. Denmark - I have always wanted to ride Piraten, and Juvelin looks good. However, Denmark is really lacking elsewhere.
9. Belgium - Walibi and Plopsaland don't have much, but they look fine.
10. Norway - Speed Monster and Thundercoaster both look alright.

Not sure why everybody keeps dissing Finland. It sure isn't anywhere near the top, but with one of the best coasters in Europe (Junker), a great GCI woodie, a very good classic brakeman woodie, a fab Intamin invert, surprisingly enjoyable intamin half pipe, world's smoothest boomerang and a lot of unique one-of-a-kind remaining creds, it has to be more appealing than the likes of Belgium (one great coaster, the rest ranges from ok to trash) and Norway (two good coasters, nothing else).
