Punta Cana- Day 1 Up!

Yeah, I'm doing this in parts because I was gone for eight days, which is a lot to report on in one sitting. So here goes part one!

So, Wednesday January 6th after school, my dad and stepmom picked me up from my house. We went to get some gas and then we were on our way to the Embassy Suites hotel about half an hour away, right near Detroit Metro Airport. I loved this hotel though, it had super nice staff, happy hour for two hours, free snacks, a nice gym, a nice pool, nice rooms, and just an overall nice atmosphere. Here is a picture of the lobby area:

I stayed up until about ten, then I finally hit the hay only to have to get up three hours later, at a little after one. I got ready quickly, then me, my dad, my soon-to-be-Stepmom Sandy, my Aunt Tina, Uncle Rod, cousin Garrett, and Rod's Sister all got shuttled to the airport which was only maybe a ten minute drive at the most.

So after all the passport checking, security checks (I got in trouble for taking pictures in the security area), and Iced Coffee drinking, the time was fast approaching. Here is me in front of the airplane, looking happy for now, but DYING on the inside.

At approximately 5:30am we started boarding the plane, and as I was going through that little bridge thing from the terminal to the actual airplane, I felt tears start to form, and I started shaking like crazy. I tried holding it in but as soon as I sat down in my seat I couldn't even help it.. I started bawling. The worst was that it seemed to take an eternity from boarding to takeoff.. It taxied FOREVER to get to some de-icing pad, where it sat for like another ten minutes, and then had to taxi to another runway where it actually took off. I was glad it was dark so that I didn't have to see. After the takeoff I started calming down a little bit, but I still hated it. But thankfully, after a very nauseating descent, a little after 10am Punta Cana time...

WE WERE THERE! It was pretty warm when we arrived, but overcast. So we got our bags and shuttled it to the Bavaro Princess hotel, our five star resort for the next week! Here is a VERY rough picture of me and Sandy.. I don't look the greatest, I was in rough shape on the plane:

This is what we saw upon pulling up:

And this is what you're first greeted with when you actually pull up to the lobby:

Here are some shots of the lobby, not the best quality though, but it was a really nice, big lobby and it was all outdoors pretty much:

As we waited for the trolly to come and pick us up to bring us to our check in place, I checked out the map of the resort, which was really big:

We were in bungalow 74 or something.

But finally, the trolly came and these were some of the things I saw while I was being taken to the Platinum lounge to be checked in:

I love the way the rooms were in bungalows of eight and not just one big hotel. Ours was beachfront.. It was awesome, my dad had to fight a lot for that room.

The resort was very well kept!

So, we got to the Platinum lounge and checked in:

Then, we went to see our room. Here is a shot of the bed in the room, which I never got to sleep in because there were three of us and obviously I was not sleeping in the same bed as my Father:

It was getting kinda rainy and overcast so no bathing suits today, but we still went over to the beach and checked that out, and over to the pool to have a looksie:

We then met up with my soon to be Stepmom's brother and his wife, Joan:

They've been togetehr since they were 12 and 13! Insane!

As we were sitting in the lounge, I spotted certain lovely looking desserts in the fridge. One was a chocolate ball which was absolutely delicious, the other two looked like raspberries and blackberries on crackers. So, liking food, I tried it!

Unfortunately, it turned out to be caviar, and I hated it. It tasted like basically chunks of salt.

After everything was settled and we explored the resort a bit, we ate at the buffet Hispaniola, a huge buffet that has a different theme everyday. I love the concept of buffets, so I rather enjoyed eating there:

Then we went to the show, which had a preshow at 9:30. Contestants from the audience were called up to compete in a thing where the man would say really fast Spanish phrases, and they would have to repeat them. Well, my dad got called up.. And he won!

He won a bottle of rum even though we had all inclusive alcohol at the hotel for the next week.

After the show, which was basically a bunch of girls dancing in really skimpy outfits (though oddly very enjoyable), I went back to the room and went to shleeep.

That concludes day one! Stay tuned for Day two, with exciting features such as THE SPA, THE POOL, ARCHERY, THE BEACH, AND THE SEA! OH AND THE CASINO!

It just looks cheap.

Anyway, to avoid making this post completely pointless:

It looks like a nice place, plenty of greenery and the building s and rooms look quite nice too.

Ha sheesh I didn't think date stamps were such a big deal guys :p .

But yah there was definitely a lot of greenery in the area, moreso in the middle areas of the resort rather than the part I was in, because we were more near the beach and pool. And the rooms were pretty nice though the picture I showed doesn't really flaunt them. They have a jacuzzi right next to the bed and the shower was pretty cool too.

Beautiful place, wonder what it looks like now, hopefully not too bad :(

But shame those lovely photos are ruined by a time stamp!

It's a holiday. Does it really matter about time stamps? They hardly distract from the picture.
Glad you had a nice time Taylor. :)

So... you were there on the 12th?

Did you feel the Haiti earthquake at all? Seeing as Haiti and DomRep share the same island. Although, you might have been too far away seeing as you were on the other side.

Jake, I was there on the 12th but we were like six hours away from the earthquake so we didn't feel anything, thank goodness, because I would have cried if we could :p .

Ben, yah, it was amusing afterwards and liek the rest of the trip I got HAUNTED with caviar.. Everything I would order was like, dipped in caviar and I got annoyed, even my sushi :(

But I'm working on part 2 now so, yay.
