PTR: Walking around Brisbane

Gazza

Giga Poster
I had my first free day in ages, so I decided to head into the middle of Brisbane, camera in hand (Facebook appears to have slaughtered the photo quality.

The destination....

4816_111528471104_607966104_2400523_3877520_n.jpg

After walking lesiurely towards the station without really taking notice of the time beforehand I realised I had the whole of 4 minutes, so a bit of a run later and I was at my local stop.

4816_111528476104_607966104_2400524_4138334_n.jpg

On the way in you pass the Milton Brewery, home of XXXX (Fourex) the quintessential Queensland beer.
Annoyingly on the way in I missed getting a shot of this epic fail (clicky) since we passed straight over it.

4816_111531231104_607966104_2400569_3748849_n.jpg

Terrible shot of Suncorp Stadium (Stupid window scratchers)

4816_111528481104_607966104_2400525_634894_n.jpg

A few minutes later I was at Fortitude Valley. It's Brisbanes nightclub/live music district, so the station has some cool 'theming' like disco ball columns and sound waves and local band quotes on the walls.

4816_111528486104_607966104_2400526_3527901_n.jpg

The theming continues at the station exit.

4816_111528761104_607966104_2400528_515633_n.jpg

Heading into the Brunswick St Mall.

4816_111528766104_607966104_2400529_5261334_n.jpg

The building with the circles is Cloudland....apparently really amazing, but I've never been.

4816_111528776104_607966104_2400530_3164826_n.jpg

I kept walking down Brunswick St....

4816_111528781104_607966104_2400531_5752906_n.jpg

And passed some 'Queenslander' houses...Here we live in lightweight timber houses built off the ground so the air can circulate underneath.

4816_111528786104_607966104_2400532_3843956_n.jpg

Walking past New Farm park.
4816_111528986104_607966104_2400533_6214256_n.jpg

Still walking....

4816_111528991104_607966104_2400534_7684347_n.jpg

Till I got to the CityCat stop, so I could get back to the CBD.
4816_111528996104_607966104_2400535_2563551_n.jpg

Speeding down the river.

4816_111529001104_607966104_2400536_5276872_n.jpg

On the right is New Farm, on the right is Kangaroo Point.
4816_111529006104_607966104_2400537_284015_n.jpg

A cool walkway that bobs up and down abit when you walk along it.

4816_111529221104_607966104_2400538_3501509_n.jpg

Going under the Storey Bridge

4816_111529226104_607966104_2400539_6472441_n.jpg

And arriving into the CBD.

4816_111529231104_607966104_2400540_6045715_n.jpg

Nearly there.

4816_111529246104_607966104_2400541_4147646_n.jpg

I've always wondered how much effort they had to put into making the curvy bit stay up.

4816_111529251104_607966104_2400542_4020203_n.jpg

So now I'm in the middle of the CBD...

4816_111529756104_607966104_2400547_8347536_n.jpg

Heading into the Queen Street Mall (How many students from Brisbane Grammar School does it take to change a light bulb? 1 to change it, 20 to hang out in the Queen St Mall)

4816_111529761104_607966104_2400548_1165099_n.jpg

Pretty much in the dead center of Brisbane.
A local paper did some research, and the Hungry Jacks in the background is aparrently the #1 landmark to meet out the front of

4816_111529766104_607966104_2400549_3440794_n.jpg

Still walking through (There was a bit of faff since I had to get new shoes)

4816_111529771104_607966104_2400550_6412911_n.jpg

Looking back the other way.

4816_111529776104_607966104_2400551_6631510_n.jpg

The old treasury building, which is now the casino.
4816_111531236104_607966104_2400570_3989099_n.jpg

There was a farmers market going out the front of Council HQ.
4816_111530026104_607966104_2400552_7929964_n.jpg

I then crossed the Victoria Bridge (Melbourne St)...Thats the Riverside expressway down below.

4816_111530031104_607966104_2400553_6201600_n.jpg

We are another on the list of cities to get one of those stupid ferris wheels.

4816_111530036104_607966104_2400554_2531560_n.jpg

Looking back at the Victoria Bridge and the CBD.

4816_111530041104_607966104_2400555_5097625_n.jpg

I headed north and saw how the The Kurlipa Bridge was progressing....The same day as I took these pics news reports emerged that it might not cope with a truck hitting it!

4816_111530046104_607966104_2400556_4781138_n.jpg

After a quick shortcut through the State Library....

4816_111530346104_607966104_2400557_3741057_n.jpg

..I was out the front of GoMA (I had to write an Essay on this in my first year at uni)
4816_111530351104_607966104_2400558_3265553_n.jpg

And this bit of art was out the front. Brizvegas FTW.

4816_111530356104_607966104_2400559_385074_n.jpg

Crossed back to the other side of Melbourne St to get to the South Bank Parklands. Witnessed a bit of a fail on the Busway....The bus behind the white one didn't pull forward for some reason to the lead stop...this blocked both lanes, and in the space of about a minute incoming buses backed up across the whole bridge

4816_111530366104_607966104_2400560_4897536_n.jpg

Another shot of the Ferris Wheel I don't want to spend $13.50 riding.

4816_111530371104_607966104_2400561_7298912_n.jpg

The arbour.
4816_111530741104_607966104_2400562_926873_n.jpg

The Streets Beach was a bit deserted, and the two lifegaurds were having a bit of a bludge.

4816_111530746104_607966104_2400563_5118945_n.jpg

The main bit was having maintenance done.

4816_111530751104_607966104_2400564_910874_n.jpg

It's all nice and shady.
4816_111530756104_607966104_2400565_244791_n.jpg

It was beginning to get late....

4816_111530761104_607966104_2400566_1534449_n.jpg

So on the busway back to Roma St Station.

4816_111531216104_607966104_2400567_2561059_n.jpg

Rush hour was only just starting.
4816_111531221104_607966104_2400568_1518439_n.jpg

Time to head home.

EDIT: Sorry, I put Brisbane into Google, and yahh..

Nice pictures though, the place looks booootiful! I've always wanted to go somewhere in Australia until I learned they had spiders.

^I don't get what you are saying...What is the name of this topic? What did Ben say? That should be enough to give away where this is.

Hint: Put Brisbane into Google.

Ooh thanks for the PTR Gazza - brings back memories of when I went to Brisbane three years ago :D - and makes me want to go back!

^^It has to be quoted, so we can remember it.

Is this Scotland?
Way to go. Next time, search first, then question. OK?

It's crazy to think that it's your winter season, yet there are still clear blue skies and peopel are dressed in shorts/skirts and t-shirts.

Now when I watch Neighbours and somebody moves to Brisbane, I'll know where they're going!

What I'm thinking is crazy is that come 20 days I'm going to be in the UK, and it will be colder in Summer there than Winter here. Stuff going on things like Tidal Wave!

I think I've only had shorts on once in the past week though, it's been more 'pants and T shirt weather'.

I miss Australia. :( I didn't get to see Brisbane unfortunately, but it looks pretty much like Sydney, minus a few landmarks.

I'll be back soon!
