I had my first free day in ages, so I decided to head into the middle of Brisbane, camera in hand (Facebook appears to have slaughtered the photo quality.
The destination....
After walking lesiurely towards the station without really taking notice of the time beforehand I realised I had the whole of 4 minutes, so a bit of a run later and I was at my local stop.
On the way in you pass the Milton Brewery, home of XXXX (Fourex) the quintessential Queensland beer.
Annoyingly on the way in I missed getting a shot of this epic fail (clicky) since we passed straight over it.
Terrible shot of Suncorp Stadium (Stupid window scratchers)
A few minutes later I was at Fortitude Valley. It's Brisbanes nightclub/live music district, so the station has some cool 'theming' like disco ball columns and sound waves and local band quotes on the walls.
The theming continues at the station exit.
Heading into the Brunswick St Mall.
The building with the circles is Cloudland....apparently really amazing, but I've never been.
I kept walking down Brunswick St....
And passed some 'Queenslander' houses...Here we live in lightweight timber houses built off the ground so the air can circulate underneath.
Walking past New Farm park.
Still walking....
Till I got to the CityCat stop, so I could get back to the CBD.
Speeding down the river.
On the right is New Farm, on the right is Kangaroo Point.
A cool walkway that bobs up and down abit when you walk along it.
Going under the Storey Bridge
And arriving into the CBD.
Nearly there.
I've always wondered how much effort they had to put into making the curvy bit stay up.
So now I'm in the middle of the CBD...
Heading into the Queen Street Mall (How many students from Brisbane Grammar School does it take to change a light bulb? 1 to change it, 20 to hang out in the Queen St Mall)
Pretty much in the dead center of Brisbane.
A local paper did some research, and the Hungry Jacks in the background is aparrently the #1 landmark to meet out the front of
Still walking through (There was a bit of faff since I had to get new shoes)
Looking back the other way.
The old treasury building, which is now the casino.
There was a farmers market going out the front of Council HQ.
I then crossed the Victoria Bridge (Melbourne St)...Thats the Riverside expressway down below.
We are another on the list of cities to get one of those stupid ferris wheels.
Looking back at the Victoria Bridge and the CBD.
I headed north and saw how the The Kurlipa Bridge was progressing....The same day as I took these pics news reports emerged that it might not cope with a truck hitting it!
After a quick shortcut through the State Library....
..I was out the front of GoMA (I had to write an Essay on this in my first year at uni)
And this bit of art was out the front. Brizvegas FTW.
Crossed back to the other side of Melbourne St to get to the South Bank Parklands. Witnessed a bit of a fail on the Busway....The bus behind the white one didn't pull forward for some reason to the lead stop...this blocked both lanes, and in the space of about a minute incoming buses backed up across the whole bridge
Another shot of the Ferris Wheel I don't want to spend $13.50 riding.
The arbour.
The Streets Beach was a bit deserted, and the two lifegaurds were having a bit of a bludge.
The main bit was having maintenance done.
It's all nice and shady.
It was beginning to get late....
So on the busway back to Roma St Station.
Rush hour was only just starting.
Time to head home.
