Panne-ing for Creds at Plopsaland

Yesterday, quite a few of us went to Plopsaland De Panne for the day.

Once we had all gathered by the giant door entrance, Ian asked "so, what's de panne?" and I'm still laughing about that now.

First, we received a proper behind-the-scenes tour of the park from the management. This was the official back stage pass we were given:

I love that it's nothing but a laminated picture of a dog!

We watched a presentation on studio 100 / the Plopsa brand. They showed us lots of clips of Maya The Bee etc, but I spent the whole thing mildly irritated because they weren't maximizing the viewing window on the videos they were showing us.

It was like watching all your fave Youtube shows like this:

10392493_10153131852365081_6165784552851432228_n.jpg

We had some Q+A, where we got to find out a little bit about the great new attractions the park will be building in the future. (Subject to Panne-ing permission of course)

Then we got a tour of the office. I don't know about you, but when it's the weekend and I'm on holiday; there's nothing I like better than looking around someone else's office.

But seriously, I actually really enjoyed looking at all the stages of their concept design. Especially seeing the drawings for older rides done crudely in pencil, in direct contrast with their newer concept art made in Photoshop.

We also saw the staff lunch room, the costume/ locker area, the man hoovering the carpet in the lobby.

Next, they showed us the events hall, which had these lovely handmade chandeliers and walls that looked like stars. It had recently been used as the venue for the Belgian TV Awards, which Jordan called 'The Flemmies' haha.

The tour trundled on to the new Plopsaqua waterpark, which the managers were obviously very proud of. If there's one thing I learned from this lengthy goon tour experience, it's that PLOPSALAND HAVE A NEW WATERPARK.

To be fair, it looks pretty fab. There's a water slide that plays 'Waterloo' by Abba as you go down it, which is all any water park needs really.

By now it was midday and Rachel, NHS Jordan and jjnumbersandletters were starting to suffer from cred anxiety. So eventually we made our way to Anubis. Ian quipped that it's not A-new-bis anymore, it's An-old-bis. I'm still laughing about that now.

I have to sit down and have a serious think about it soon, but I'm pretty sure Anubis is still in my top 10. I love the sudden kick of the launch; straight into the floaty airtime of the top hat. The lack of height makes the change of forces flow faster into each other.

Sure, the coaster panne-ders out after the MCBR. But the first half is fantastic.

Then Rachel got her 200th cred, on the splash boat thingy that's barely a cred. I noted that the lift section of the ride features the same wall lining as the Plopsaland Events Hall. Just think of all the people I can impress with that knowledge! Here's hoping it comes up in next weeks pub quiz...

We went over to washing machine cred next. I was disappointed that it didn't 'spin.' This coaster had the longest queue, but it passed quickly as we joked about excel-erator coaster-count spreadsheets and hand-dryer creds.

New blue coaster followed. It was new. It was blue. I would rate it 'Mild-Moderate' on the scale of vibrating bottomness.

Grabbed some lunch then rode the mediocred Dragon. It's one of those Mack powered mine trains that doesn't do anything. I'll be glad when it's (dra)gone.

It does, however, sit right next to the fab log flume. Where both the Vadge Boat and the Fat Boat got spited by '3 adults per boat' policy. We made up for this with our Whitesnake Boat though heheh...

I watched everyone else ride the Bat Flyer thing, which I found to traumatising to re-ride.

Then we rode the dark ride, where the characters look somewhat familiar... Let's play spot the difference:

One last ride on Anubis, before I got the most important cred of the day: a new mug cred!

Mug Report:

I noticed that my mug count is a bit Merlin-heavy, so I've decided to branch out this year and some for some rarity points.

Annoyingly, Plopsaland didn't have much tat that alluded to one specific cred. So I had to settle for a park-wide mug. But like a Moser Drop Tower on a seaside resort, I saw charm in my chosen mugs crappiness.

It's white, with rainbow circles that look as though they are straight outta Clipart. Then some glittery bubble writing that simply reads 'Plopsa'. Not even 'Plopsaland'!

With it's complete lack of anything theme-park related in the design, this is the kind of mug that'll keep guests guessing: 'What is Plopsa? And why do they make such hideous mugs?'

So I gave it a test-run today. The glitter didn't wash straight off on the pre-rinse. I had a decaf tea with milk and no sugar. It stayed warm for 13 minutes - that's comparatively less warmth-time than a thick Merlin mug.

Here's my On Mug Photo: (Or 'Mug Shot' if you will...)

...and this is what happens when you write a trip report on 3 hours of sleep. I think I'm going to go to bed now. Sorry for wasting your time! Go to Plopsaland, it's great. They have a waterpark.

First, we received a proper behind-the-scenes tour of the park from the management.

Sooooooooooo f**king jealous! I love behind-the-scenes tours!

The mug is a big disappointment, especially given the style of mugs they used to have...

Plopsa's so fab, it's scarily refreshing to have a company with screwed on heads and not stressing because of a drop in attendance in 2012...

I need to go back and do the waterpark, from what they were saying it sounds fab... Plus the park in general is fab really...

Bring on the wooden coaster!

Great report, Serena. They are always great to read.

I should just point out, Rachel got her 100th, it was me who got their 200th ;)

I'll post my report...eventually.

Fab report as usual. It was such a great trip. You summed up the goon tour quite well.

Like Jordan, I'll probably also write a report someday, to give my opinion on the park and rides.

Sorry to hijack your thread, Serena, but I need 5 LoG points, and this is going to be quick anyway.

Plopsaland de Panne

As you may know from reading my Bellewaerde trip report Stone Cold, Nic, Peep, ThomVD had spent the night before in Dunkirk. We had an early start, 8am, to get to the park, just inside the Belgian border. We were treated by a big door and a big, colourful sign.

We all met outside the entrance as people slowly arrived. One of the first to arrive was Sue, the last one to turn up was Sue. (Toilet in case you're wondering).

Ian went off and CoasterForced and we were all taken to a darkened room for be talked to for an hour. We got shown some video footage of Studio 100's films. We were given very little info in the new woodie...just that it'd be a woodie but that's cool! We were also told about their new waterpark because apparently they have one of those, and it's good for chillaxing. Then for the guided tour...first of the offices, then of the staff's canteen, then the staff's dressing rooms, then we got to go outside and see all the creds that I wasn't **** riding.

We were taken over to the new waterpark because apparently they have one of those, and it's good for chillaxing. Finally we were released, we had to buy our (discounted) tickets first, we had to do that in the new waterpark because apparently they have one of those, and it's good for chillaxing. Finally, well gone midday we were released. I was really struggling from cred anxiety, like it was becoming a severe problem. First stop, Anubis.

We hardly queued, I sat middle which apparently was a mistake as front is best but alas, I really quite enjoyed it, good solid launch, smooth coaster, pops of airtime, great solid coaster, especially younger ones wanting to make the step up from the much more kiddie/family orientated credits in the park. Fab.

Next up was SuperSplash, yay for water cred <3

14662_10205685139882157_5340285600738316578_n.jpg

I was anticipating that you might get quite wet given the splash at the end so I sat away from a row edge.

11169971_10205685140842181_8498098876558385993_n.jpg

You go into a room full of lights that look like stars, and then a lift pulls you up to the top. When you reach the top, the doors in front of you open giving you great views of the park and the drop. The drop is good enough as is the 'coasting' bit, and I'm pleased to announce you don't get too wet either! Then the pointless meander around the moat back to the station which takes forever.

Several of us caused mayhem on the rope bridge by jumping up and down. That was fun.

11011083_10205685141722203_2974676326724860726_n.jpg

It culminates in a slide.

11214724_10153289336239855_2756871200803559692_n.jpg

#Dignified

We then headed over to Rollerskater.

11146349_10205685143402245_5631944930532178365_n.jpg

This was probably the longest queue of the day, it took a good half an hour but it gave me chance to catch up with Ian about his trip to Dubai and chat to Benin. It's simply a family coaster that weaves in and out of oversized household objects...like a washing machine...

11150176_10205685145842306_4753478919155683589_n.jpg

And a bird in a cage...

11169941_10205685143962259_8798490638809228813_n.jpg

I like the colourful train.

11165226_10205685146082312_4427875984402482755_n.jpg

I sat back row with Benin. It was alright, had to go around twice, yay. I was grateful for the plus one.

Next up was Viktor's Race, I think everyone on the trip needed this cred as it is the newest (they got rid of the old Viktor's Race which was exactly the same cred in 2013 and replaced it with this...).

11149119_10205685147562349_4627104363537686935_n.jpg

Benin and I were ready for a plus one.

11162199_10205685148122363_5600766297348088036_n.jpg

It was alright. It had that beautiful vibrating bum feeling that many Zierers have, so that in itself makes it slightly more than a +1 ;). nadroJ and I found the face on the Moon very funny.

11052446_10205685151402445_8813237447046581985_n.jpg

After that it was time for a spot of lunch. My cred anxiety was diminishing, 4 down, just 3 to go, and I only needed 2 more for my 200th, yay.

We ate in the Piraten Grill.

11174828_10205685138442121_1755749705199381091_n.jpg

There was a fab server who was serving us and cooking all our food on his own bless him. I had the chicken and chips which looked delicious (and it was!) although what prompted them to chuck gravy over my chicken, I just don't know.

10403262_10205685151362444_5553238014445033241_n.jpg

I also ate the rest of Serena's chicken caesar salad because I was still hungry and it was only going to go in the bin otherwise. We did debate whether or not to go over to the new waterpark because apparently they have one of those, and it's good for chillaxing, but we decided against it, maybe we'll come back one summer, although it won't be as new and might not be as good for chillaxing. I'm just waffling now.

De Draak was next because cred.

14662_10205685153082487_320174913707516231_n.jpg

Cred w**nkers!

For some completely unknown reason, as the coaster makes 2 circuits, when it came through the station everyone on board thought it prudent to scream at the top of their voices, cue CFers taking this to an extreme, Stone Cold in particular roared particularly loud as he usually does.

Ahhh it's a fab ride! This area of the park is the best in the place anyway and the coaster takes you around all of it giving some great views of the log flume and other theming. As a coaster it's alright, nothing major just a good solid ride.

We headed on over to the log flume next. There was a fat boat:

10988466_10153289337659855_7409458734297004883_n.jpg

A Vadge boat:

11114179_10153289337814855_592598260183125051_n.jpg

And a dry boat:

10404065_10153289337674855_113919751178509330_n.jpg

It was alright, pretty forgettable to be honest, and the water was filthy. Ugh. We made our way over to De Vleermuis, a bat flyer.

11164563_10205685155482547_1370050426270356592_n.jpg

I've never ridden one before so was quite looking forward to it, especially as one of the sides was to be my 200th cred!

Given the rubbish capacity the queue took around 20 minutes for each side. I rode left (left in accordance to direction you face on the coaster rather than the direction you queue in.

11173345_10205685170442921_2723035001813265492_n.jpg

There was a Shambhala moment and Stone Cold unfortunately got spited, thankfully he'd already got the creds. So, my 200th!

1545223_10205688224359267_1465270491962397562_n.jpg

It is certainly terrifying and the brake at the end is one of the most urgent I've ever experienced on a coaster but it was a worthy 200th, really good fun, quite pacy too. As is customary I had my milestone handshake with Ian from CoasterForce.

11180306_10153289338064855_2976932338277639294_n.jpg

And I ran around to queue again so all the cred anxiety from earlier was unfounded, yay.

As I came off a parade was going on. I love how they use convertible sports cars <3

We didn't have a great amount of time before the park was going to close so we headed over to Bos van Plop.

11150384_10205685175203040_7344861458012260112_n.jpg

Lol, Plop.

10403262_10205685176683077_1573129422608460376_n.jpg

It's a boat ride through some very green scenery. I sat with Serena, we took a selfie.

I really enjoyed the ride. It is so well themed and there is so much to see!

Loads of things moved, it was just a really enjoyably boat ride. Stone Cold who was sat in front of me kept tilting the boat and holding onto the side slowing us down meaning we created a jam of around 4 boats. Twat <3.

We headed over to the disk'O next, De Grote Golf.

I've never seen one of these so well themed. Grass along the track including the hill, a beautiful queuing area and the car thing itself also looked fab. I felt there wasn't as much spin in comparison to others of these I have ridden but still enjoyed it all the same.

Time was running out so we headed over to Anubis for a final ride on that.

11170351_10205685184763279_1787741738751302197_n.jpg

I sat front this time with nadroJ. It's even better here. I can't believe it is such an unsuspecting hidden gem in a park that's, let's be honest, full of family rides aimed at little ones. For what it is, this cred is **** fantastic. I bought an ORP for €2.

11154652_10205687363617749_6141925371799846406_o.jpg

We headed over to Maya Land just to look at it short of anything else.

11141110_10205685184563274_8438587009384945214_n.jpg

Another hidden gem in this park, so beautiful and unexpected.

Mike got a dunking in the fountains which was hilarious but that was pretty much it! We made our way to the exit going via the new waterpark because apparently they have one of those, and it's good for chillaxing. We all said our goodbyes with handshakes and hugs and said goodbye before inevitably following each other as all our cars were basically next to each other. We said goodbye again before inevitably bumping into several of them on the ferry back to Calais. It's a never-ending spiral.

I loved Plopsaland. It's so immersive and is really beautiful. I love how everywhere is hidden within itself. You turn one corner and oh, it's a fantastically themed medieval area, you enter a small looking building and it is in fact a huge selection of rides full of colour and beauty. I had such a great day here and I can't wait to get back here next year for the new woodie...maybe even to visit the new waterpark, because apparently they have one of those, and it's good for chillaxing.

We dropped ThomVD off and made our way to Calais to catch the ferry back to Dover. We caught an earlier one than we were booked on because we got to the port around 90 minutes early. An uneventful ferry journey back but we were rewarded with a magnificent sunset.

11169960_10205685194083512_8470477753779638703_n.jpg

We dropped Peep and Nic off and Stone Cold and I travelled back to Cambridge.

I had such a good weekend, Plopsaland was fab, thanks to Ian for arranging the discounted tickets and the guided tour, it was fab (despite my anxiety!), thanks to Stone Cold for being my chauffeur, thanks to Nic for providing unnecessary tooth drama at Bellewaerde ;) and thanks to everyone that attended for a great day at Plopsa and it was great to meet you Thom!

Thank you very much for reading.

Great hi-jack of my report Jordan! I giggled every time you used the word "chillaxing" <3
