So, the London Olympics organising committee are currently asking for nominations for people to participate in the torch relay in the run up to the 2012 games. They're looking for "inspirational" people who have "made a real difference" to your life and/or community. 8000 people in all will be chosen and there is still a week left to nominate people.

My question is, do you think this is a good way of recognising people? Are the criteria rigid enough to make sure that the correct people get nominated/chosen? Do you think it would be better to have celebs instead and get the chance to see Konnie Huq wrestled to the ground by protesters? Will you bother to go and watch the parade when it's close to you? Or do you just think the whole thing is just a waste of time and money?

To be honest I don't really care who does it, it's just good to watch and a nice way of lighting the flame.
It would be quite fun to see Dawn French or Johnny Vegas do it, but we all know that's not gonna happen.

I have no interest in the Olympics at all, therefore "The whole thing is pointless" is my answer.

With the Euro Football Championships in June and the Olympics in July, I will seek shelter at a theme park or under a rock during those months.

Next year will be a horrible year for sport haters like myself.

I'm look forward to the 2012 Olympics, it's going to be an exciting time for the UK and will still be a controversial issue after as it has been before it. But for most of us who enjoy sports it will be fantastic to watch.

I would've bought tickets but I just couldn't bring myself to buy tickets without actually buying them....

It's not coming to Portsmouth, going to Southampton, but not wasting my time going there :P

Agreed.

Wait, the Olympics is coming to London!

Why the **** haven't I been asked to carry the **** torch?!

*bump* Just heard on the radio that they're going to let the torch bearers know on Sunday. If I don't hear anything by Monday afternoon, I'll assume I didn't make it.

Everybody cross their fingers and toes!

It's coming down the bottom of my road on it's way between Pontcysyllte Aquaduct (it's a Unesco world heritage site don't you know!) and the glorious Wrexham town centre.

I couldn't give two s**ts. There was something in the paper about it costing us £4,000 for every minute it spends in the county, which has had the local, non-taxpaying community in UPROAR!

Wow! Just think of all the public sector pensions they could subsidise with that money!!!

Dear Jordan,

Thank you once again for nominating Ian Bell to be an Olympic Torchbearer through the London 2012 'Moment to Shine' campaign.

We had tens of thousands of nominations; all of them were of an exceptional standard. The selection process is now complete and unfortunately, with a limited number of places available, Ian has not been chosen to carry the Olympic Flame.

We hope you will show your support and cheer on your local Torchbearers as the Olympic Flame comes to a place near you. See where the Flame is going

You might also like to consider becoming a London 2012 Local Leader and get your friends, family and local community celebrating the Games.

Thanks again for your time,

Best wishes,

The London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay team

**** 'em. **** 'em all.

I'm really touched that you nominated me, even if it was a piss take <3

I hope it made the judges laugh.

Now I need to find a box large enough to send an elephant turd to Lord Coe.

Oh! Pity your not a torch bearer. I do know someone who is though and is carring it through a section of chester.

Probably the only bit I'll see of the Olympics.

The only parts of the Olympics I watch are the Torch Relay, the Opening Ceremony and the Closing Ceremony. All the inbetween bits are boring ****. Who wants to watch sport all Summer, anyway?

But the torch comes through Maidstone just round the corner from where I live, and so I must watch it when it comes through. :D
