Oh no, here they come... Mega Thorpe PTR 14/03/2010

peep

CF Legend
Peep awoke on the 14th March 2010 to be greeted by a beautiful blue sky, not a cloud in sight. He was happy and somehow prepared to face a day at UK's chav central, Thorpe Park. After getting ready and having some Special K cereal he managed to nag his father into giving him a lift down to the local train station, much to the displeasure of his father. :P

Enjoying my little story* so far? Good, then we shall continue...

They departed the house at 9:35 and arrived at the local train station at 9:45, a whole 10 minutes before Peep's train departed for London. This gave him plenty of time to purchase a ticket to Staines and to stroll down to the platform to wait for the train into London. Peep opted to read a book on the train, which also helped entertain the lady sitting next to him (get ya own book betch).

The train pulled into London Waterloo East station around 10:15. Peep got off the train, walked across the bridge to the main Waterloo station to meet with fellow CFers. The meeting point was outside Burger King between 10am and 10:30. Peep had arrived about 10:20 yet there were no CFers to be seen. He pondered, looked at the big clock which failed to tell the time and then, in the corner of his eye, spotted one Joey and one Enigma Shadow. Hurrah.

He wandered over to them and they all exchanged pleasantries for several minutes before heading into the nearest WHSmiths. There they searched for a particular type of sweet. Their quest failed and they left the silly store empty handed. Sad times were had.

Before they knew it it was time for them to catch their train to the place that is known as Staines. The train journey was full of the trio discussing theme parks and future trips. Soon enough they found themselves departing the train at Staines only to continue their journey via the chav bus.

The chav bus was a single decker bus that was a dark blue and for once it was quite empty. It travelled through the centre of Staines at an average speed and wasn't very exciting. Joey and Peep were all too familiar with this bus journey and it was only the riveting conversation between the three of them that kept them awake.

They finally arrived at Thorpe Park. The sky was still a calming blue but a few clouds had gathered. After a quick stop at the cash point they headed inside to meet more CFers outside Crust. Outside a very closed Crust was Ian, Vadge, AJ, Jake, Martyn H, Peter and Ciall. After a mammoth faff session they opted to join Beans and Phil on Rush.

Rush didn't have much of a queue but the group was split over 3 different cycles. It was fun and gave large amounts of airtime, just the way they liked it. Happy faces all round.

Once the group had re-formed, much more faff time occurred and then it was finally decided that the group headed into the direction of Saw: The Ride. Confusion hit when the group arrived at the entrance of Saw when the board said that the ride was broken down even though the ride was still going round and people were still entering the queueline. Out of nowhere a decision was made that created more confusion than giving a cat a book to read. The group entered the fast track queue even though none of us had fast track tickets. Peep realised that Vadge must have decided to use her spacker band to get her and 2 other CFers through quickly (to avoid a 10 minute queue). The majority of the group followed Vadge past the ever-growing-concern man. Then Peep, Joey, Enigma Shadow, AJ and Jake got told they couldn't pass as they didn't have fast track passes or spacker bands. They then promptly left the queueline.

They decided that a loo break will help decide what they do next. After a quick break AJ and Jake opted to go meet the rest of the group at the exit of Saw and Joey, Enigma Shadow and Peep opted to split from the group and headed into the direction of Nemesis Inferno.

There was a very minimal queue for Inferno which pleased the trio. They managed to get seats in the back row too which made it even better. The ride was thrilling, as they expected from their many previous visits and they highly enjoyed it.

They then spent some time wandering around the Nemesis Inferno area taking pictures and talking.

They finally made their way to the Thorpe Park shop in which they were heavily disappointed with. There wasn't much merchandise and after a while Joey pointed out that on the new t-shirt and hoodies for men the design has a silhouette of Hulk at Islands of Adventure (sorry, no pic of this). This was highly amusing for them and they spent some time pointing and laughing at it. Enigma Shadow then purchased some sweets.

Upon exiting the shop they noticed something different about Tidal Wave, something new. The Original Source sponsor had gone and was replaced by Dr Pepper. The new sponsor theme was approved by the three enthusiasts as they took pictures.

As it was near-by they decided to go on X:/No Way Out. However the attraction was closed and they had to think of an alternative plan. They ended up going over to Vortex which had a very minimal queueline (a theme of the day it would seem). Joey opted out of riding Vortex as he disapproves spinny attractions. However Peep and Enigma Shadow thoroughly enjoyed their time on the attraction as they got a decent cycle full of air-time.

It was then decided that food times should occur. Joey had pre-planned and already had a Boots meal deal whereas Enigma Shadow and Peep were indecisive and took a long time to decide where/what to eat. Eventually they ended up having food from the Fish and chip place in Amity Cove.

They sat at a table slightly in the warm glow of the sun. As they were coming to the end of their meal Ian, Vadge, Beans and Phil walked past, they all said hello and then they continued their day by heading off to detonator.

Joey, Enigma Shadow and Peep opted for Stealth but were denied a ride as it had broken down. So, off they continued around the park, finally ended up at Nemesis Inferno again. This time they were in the third row and good times were had again.

Exiting the attraction took some time due to some faffing in the gift shop.

The next attraction they opted for was Flying Fish. The ride ops seemed quite happy and made us go round 4 times and got us to wave our hands up in the air as we went through the station. Fun times occurred.

Joey attacks ugly theming

As it had opened up the group decided to ride X:/No Way out next. They had to queue for around 10 minutes before going on the rather random coaster. Somehow Joey and Peep managed to feel ill after riding.

So to calm themselves down they went on Collosus. The queue wasn't very long but Peep was not happy when the ride op made him go further towards the back to fill up a seat next to some little chav. Bad times. However Peep went on to enjoy the ride and didn't find it too rough.

DSC00087.jpg

After riding Collosus they chose to walk towards Saw via the new pathway. The group walked straight past the new Saw: Alive attraction and straight to the ride which had a small queue.

Inside the station the ride attendant seemed very angry and had obviously been shouting a lot all day, silly ride attendant. However they got on and Peep enjoyed the ride a lot.

It was nearing 4pm and the group decided to head home (apart from Peep, he had other plans). They strolled towards the exit and back onto the Thorpe Park chav bus. They reflected back on the day and discussed many things on the journey back to Staines train station. They soon found themselves on the train back to London Waterloo. The train was rather busy so they sat on the floor, Peep was not impressed by this idea which amused Joey.

Q: Where the hell does Thorpe sell a chicken burger that looks like that?

After getting through the gates at London Waterloo they said their goodbyes and split. Peep had decided to go see a film at the Odeon in Covent Garden. Shall we follow him on his journey?....

Peep's cinema ticket

After the film Peep went back home and spent bloody ages typing it up and hopes that whoever read every word of the trip report loved it and he prayed that some people even make comments on his very lengthy trip report. :D

Good night.

*When I say little I really mean stupidly long

AJ.... WHAT were you wearing? And LMAO at Jake.. You look like a gay eastern european hostel owner. <3

Ahhhhh John, I do miss your reports in the close season...

Great to have them back :D

I especially liked the random jaunt from Waterloo to the Odeon...

Ahaha, you really weren't kidding when you said you'd write a huge PTR  It's brilliant, it made me laugh. And I even read every word!

Awesome day, filled to the brim with win. Except for broken_Stealth :?

I'd do a proper trip report but I can't be bothered.

^ And broken Annual Pass making systems.

I got kicked off the Stealth station twice, but gained fast tracks and eventually got a ride on it. They sent 2 or 3 trains before it broke every time, luck and fast track pass meant I could get on one.

Stealth was closed? Bad times.

But reading this made for good times. Peep makes me laugh. You look like you had a good day. And I know what Enigma Shadow looks like.

X:/WTF also sucks, and does not surprise me that Joey and Peep got ill.

I'm going to cut out the usual "it was nice to see people" stuff. Of course it was!

Here are a few thoughts of my brief visit to Thorpe.

* The park looks very clean and sparkly in places. What you would expect seeing as it's been open for about 2 hours.

* Saw was uncomfortable. I wouldn't saw it was terrible, just felt a bit well, uncomfortable. It may have been because I was sandwiched between a Mr Beans and a Vadge, but I didn't notice the air gun or water-from-the-body effects working.

* Inferno was ok, could possibly need some new running wheels next season or the one after. No water effects or mist working.

* Saw Stelf test a few times but never with anybody on it.

* Noticed a new Mexican food place opposite Pizza Slut. Tried the Chile Pot Kids Meal (they don't do an adult one). Lovely dollop of sour cream on top, nachos, processed and then processed again plastic cheese and it was a bit too weak. Then again, it is a kids meal (although a generous portion, no wonder kids are fat etc) so I guess sit can't be too spicy.

* Opening up the area beside crust so goons can run from Vortex all the way to Saw is a good idea, although there's still the bottle neck by Samurai. Still, opens the area up.

* Didn't bother with the Saw Maze. Not my sort of attraction and mainly heard "was ok" reviews from others.

* Staff were really great. Everyone I interacted with was cheerful, happy and very helpful, especially the young lady in guest services. (When I went there with Vadge so she could enquire about the spastic band.)

* The queue for the Annual Passes was terrible. Only two, and at times three, computers working. The queue was out of the door for most of the day. I queued for nearly an hour. But again, the staff were fantastic. The ones not working on the two tills were standing there taking questions and complaints from members of the public, they didn't hide or fob people off. They did try to help out as much as they could, were very apologetic and worked as quick as they could. One female member of staff even went over the call of duty to assist Vadge and she gave a me a cup of water. Crap IT system but superb staff.

* Noticed a few "loo before you queue" and other anti queue jumping signs. Good idea but if chavs can't read...

In total, I rode Rush, Saw, Inferno and Det. Was disappointed that KFC and Stelf were closed.

I went to renew my Annual Pass so I didn't have to faff at Alton on Saturday. I managed to do that (eventually!) so everything else was a bonus.

Inferno was ok, could possibly need some new running wheels next season or the one after. No water effects or mist working.

We were moaning about that too. The tunnel looks naked without mist - it's not a good look! But the effects were working the second time we rode it :--D

You have no idea how much Saw_disabled_entrance_man RAGED at us after you got through with Vadge!

Oh, and I STILL can't get over the sophisticated criticism about X:NWO from the 5/6 year old boy after we came off it. He knew what he was talking about, for sure!

That was quite an enjoyable read actually.

Normally I get bored with long trip reports, and start skipping paragraphs, but I read that word for word.

Two big thumbs up. :--D
