Mumbo Jumbo stalls upside down!!

Two fun park customers got a bigger fright than they perhaps wanted when their rollercoaster got stuck, leaving them dangling 50ft above the ground.

They had paid to go on the Mumbo Jumbo ride at Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire, which is described as the steepest rollercoaster in the world.

But their carriage got stranded leaving them upside down for around 20 minutes before being rescued by theme park staff.

Wonder if this will give the coaster a minimum guest count in the cars so that it wont stall again in the future.
 
Epic! Hell.. I kinda thought sitting like that for a second or two was sort of uncomfortable.. let alone STUCK like that. Poor folks.

They didn't bother getting the people out did they? Looks like the guy on the lift is just pushing it to the next drop, which is all it needs =)

A minor issue made slightly more amusing by the fact that the track is upside-down at that point.

Great job on getting it corrected in just 20 mins though!
I've seen people stuck on lifthills at Thorpe Park for longer than that- and those are the right way up with access stairs!
 
Apparently it was caused by a poncho getting caught. I don't see either of them wearing one in the photos though. Must be quite uncomfortable being stuck upside down for that long. Well done to the park for getting it sorted quickly though.
 
Wow that's crazy! It's amazing how it managed to stall at that point, even though it takes it quite slowly. And I wouldn't take that article as the total truth with "a poncho jammed the mechanism" as it says there were five riders, even when it has a photo that clearly shows two. Would have been pretty cool to see though, never mind beeing on it.
 
And if you read the article properly you'll see it says theres 2 cars involved, a 2nd one stopped either on the lift or the block brakes before that section.

A poncho in the wheels can quite easily stop a coaster.

Well, I'm glad that they weren't stuck there for too long and that the incident wasn't accused by a mechanical failure and remains open.

I just wonder how they get people out of the S&S type restraints and into the safety platform?

Erm... No the article doesn't state that there's 2 cars... Just says 5 riders...

Don't tell others to read something properly when you can't yourself please...

All coaster trains have some form of manual release system... So I would guess all the attendants would need to do to pull the lever/turn the knob/push the button and hey presto the restraints get released and people can be evacuated...

Sounds like such a British thing which got caught though... A poncho of all things... Was it REALLY that wet?
 
I'm not suprised... it CRAWLS through that element anyway. Hell, if one of the pikeys in the caravan park farted in Jumbo's direction it would probably stall!

Oh yeah, I knew that, but just wondered with the being upside down and releasing upside down...How does that work exactly? You wouldn't want them falling a foot or so flat on your head :P

Apologies was another article I saw it on.

And Mumbo has a portable air tank that is simply plugged into a 2nd air intake that is separate to the usual one and a key switch for each individual restraint.

I think they pushed the train along to the drop and up to the next brake run...

It's in Yorkshire so bound to be a few of the old miners able to push heavy trains around :lol:
 
I'm a bit puzzled as to why people are shocked this has happened? I always thought it was a real possibility due to the epic slowness through that element. :lol:
 
Yahoo news is the most unreliable news service I have ever known - To have them actually placing an image of a coaster which half-relates to the article surprises me :P

Yeah I thought that. It does feel like it's going to stall on pretty much every element!

I haven't ridden Mumbo Jumbo, but Snoo, the kid & I rode Steel Hawg quite a bit last year. There must be a big difference between the two El Locos because there's no slowness on any of the elements on Hawg. :?
