I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up on before, but for the last few weeks there have been some very strong rumours that the Mr. Freeze coasters at Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St. Louis are to have the cars reversed for this season.

There have been no official announcements, which seems surprising at this late stage, but there have been reports from locals of the coasters testing with the cars reversed.

Again, not sure how official this animation is:

Thoughts?

This might sound STUPID, but I don't care, for people that's rode Superman & Tower of Terror. How do the launches compare to going forwards? Does it actually feel a LOT different? (obviously you've not got the force of being thrown back into your seat).

Why is the coaster red and blue?

As for backwards launches, well it makes the drop down on the return trip a bit better, but these early LSM/LIM launches are a bit forceless anyway, so It didn't have much of an impact.

I hated Superman when it launched forwards, it was awful, but now, I find it awesome with the reverse car, I'm assuming this will get a lot of love as well. Granted it has always gone backwards but not first, which will really mess with the senses.

^ This

The only real reason for this is the backwards launch (obviously), but I don't really understand this new push by SF to turn their launching coasters around. If you think about it the only launched coasters that SF will now have that are not turned around are their Intamin Impulses and Ka. And the Impulses already have a backward launch in them...

My take on it is that the spike will be much better with the cars reversed. Currently, you're being shot up a 200ft vertical spike, but you have absolutely no concept of the height at all.

So yeah, as UC said it's an "easy" way to bring new life into an older ride, giving them something to advertise, while still offering an experience that's different enough to keep regular customers happy.

Good call as far as I'm concerned.

It's definitely official.
That video came from the facebook pages of SFOT and SFSL ....
I personally think it will be great!
I absolutely loved the backwards launch on TOT2 at Dreamworld ..... it was really really cool, and it feel different.
I think with Mr Freeze, the best thing will be the launch (experiencing that backwards) and the drop .... because now instead of seeing sky, you see and feel how high you are!
Plus, its a great move from both parks, because people will want to try this ride that is essentially a new ride experience, and all the parks are doing is turning the trains around.

I personally think that this was meant to be...
Backwards launches are so unique and add so much to the ride experience (from what I've heard at least). Also, that drop'll be ten times better now for reasons that D1993 stated above.
So now its the worlds first backwards launching coaster with two trains...perfect!
