Most expensive park visit... ever?

So the other day I got thinking to myself.. 'what is the most expensive single trip to a park I've ever had?'

I mean, nowadays I can hit parks like Port Aventura (flights, hotel & tickets) cheaper than I can a lot of UK parks, which is pretty ridiculous.

So I put it to you CF'ers - what is the most expensive trip to a park you've ever had? Trying to exclude week-long 'mega' trips and all.

See when going abroad I tend to try and combine theme park visits with other things to do to make a holiday out of it, so Benidorm, Salou, Copenhagen, there's been other things to do so although the main reason for visiting is the theme park, it can be justified more if there's other stuff to do.

Only time I've ever really gone abroad just for a theme park and no more was Liseberg, but the flights were £9.99 so I actually think all in it was cheaper than a trip to Blackpool which will cost me £60 in fuel alone there and back.

My guess is probably Silverwood. I went when I was like 5, so I can't remember crap, but I remember going there. So I guess that. Everything else I went to was a multi-park trip.

For a single park? Probably when I visited Méga Parc in Quebec City http://rcdb.com/4639.htm likely my most expensive single credit too. Gas for the six hour drive (each way) from Boston MA to Quebec City, tolls, hotel for 2 nights, food and stuff... All for a single Mack family coaster. At the time, the next nearest coaster was over 3 hours away (La Ronde) But since I was there in November, it didn't matter much. And my friend and I visited Galeries de la Capitale / Quebec City solely for the coaster... Since at the time it was pretty much unknown with just a handful of photos available (and no POV, ha) and I was itching for an adventure and at the time Capitale Express was the closest coaster to me, that I hadn't ridden.

Universal Studios Orlando for me. Entry price for both parks, one day, was $156. And at that time, the USD to NOK rate was the least favourable in recent memory. Adding on food, drink and merchandise, the trip turned out more expensive than it really ought to considering that I live on a student budget. Luckily I got the plane tickets to Florida covered by my parents as a Christmas/graduation gift, and my cousins working at EPCOT gave us free entry to all the Disney parks during the week we spent in Orlando. So in general, the trip could have been a lot more expensive than it turned out in the end.

I can't think of a time when I've made a big effort and spent a lot just for one park to be honest. I've obviously done some big trips, which have included expensive parks/flights etc., but the parks themselves have never been done in isolation, so it's not easy to call it really.

Maybe the first time I went to Liseberg I guess. I honestly can't remember the details now, but that was literally just a trip for that one park, including flights and hotel. I've got a feeling I may have used a London airport as well - I've got a vague recollection of meeting up with people at some ungodly hour at Stansted - which would have meant expensive trains to and from there to get home.

I guess you could say Disney World, as even though I did other stuff in Orlando later, I started off by doing four days just at Disney, including staying in one of their hotels. Moving off property and onto I-Drive later made it feel like a different trip to be honest, despite being so close, so the whole Disney part probably could be taken separately.

Coming up it's likely to be Shanghai Disney. The park ticket itself is reasonable, but I'll do two days, likely stay at one of their hotels and have to fly there and back from Hong Kong. Flights aren't really expensive - definitely not as cheap as Ryanair/Easyjet can be around Europe though - but it'll be the only time I'll have made that kind of effort and spent that kind if money for literally one park.

Most theme park trips that I've paid for were with college and uni so they were around the £25 mark so they weren't so bad. But paid £60 last year to get to and into Alton Towers as well as a dodgy fried chicken meal there.

Gosh, this sounds like one of those Mumsnet type topics where they complain about going to Legoland in the middle of the school holidays, pay full price, buy fast passes, spend £100 on food and drink, only go on three rides all day and then have to pay for parking!

Hmm, one single trip to a park. I'll discount the parks where I have annual passes and they've been part of a bigger trip.

I'd probably say the trip I did to Irn Bru Fair at the SECC in Glasgow many, many years ago. I flew there/back from Southampton, stayed two nights in a city centre Premier Inn and obviously bought a wristband. For six hours inside a temporary fair, the cost of going was probably £45 an hour.

It's difficult. I, like other have said, rarely travel JUST to ride rollercoasters, I like seeing other **** too. Also, when I go away I consider myself on holiday, which is basically what all of my spare cash goes on so I don't scrimp on that much, yes I'll buy that piece of tat, yes I'll have an extra drink, that sort of thing.

All in all, my most expensive overall trip was probably when I went to Florida in 2014, it cost around £3000 I'd say but I was there for nearly a month and I literally bought EVERYTHING because I had no self control. Included in that were 21 day Disney Tickets, 14 day Universal tickets, 14 day busch tickets, a month of food etc etc.

I went to Lightwater 5 years ago as a first date with the BF, so you could say that I've been paying for it ever since?

I think Prater in Vienna ended up being very expensive for only being there a few hours at most, but at least they had a decent selection. Annoyingly, they don't have a wristband or anything along those lines. Actually, Vidampark in Hungary was pretty bad as well considering it's a pay one fee and they have a few **** flat rides and three creds (all of which were pretty crap but the woodie is pretty historic).

Busch Gardens is quite pricey, but I find them and Disney worth their admission tbh.
