Apparently, the creator of the popular video game Minecraft will be building a new theme park in upstate New York. If the idea passes the City/State council- which it probably will, then we can see groundbreaking as early as August 2015, and opening by 2018. Not much information has been released, but here is what we know:

-There will be 3 areas: The Overworld, The Nether, and The End
-It will have a $290M Budget
-YouTuber Direwolf20 will be designing an on-sight hotel called "The Direwolf Inn", which will be "made" with life-sized Minecraft blocks(1 meter in length, width, and height)
-Freddie Wrong will be designing a ride.

That's it. It'll be interesting to see how this will all turn out.

Re: Binghamton NY | unknown | Minecraft Theme Park

Having another park in New york can be nothing but a good thing. Hopefully it does well and isn't a piece of ****.

Re: Binghamton NY | unknown | Minecraft Theme Park

A $290 budget? You can't even buy a shed for that amount. :P

Binghamton is off of Hwy 17, I-81 and I-88, but it's not exactly a major destination. Don't see this lasting long, if it ever sees the light of day.

Moving this topic until we actually see some construction.

If this does get off the ground, this is a park that I'd really love to visit. I love Minecraft, I did think that a theme park might theme an area to the blocky world, but an entire theme park themed to it is aces in my book.

Wait. Do Freddy Wong or Direwolf20 (what ever his name is) have any experience in this? As far as I know Freddy can do theming work since he is a VFX Artist and a film maker, but not an engineer. Not sure what Direwolf20 does.

Pretty neat idea but needs some tweaking.

Does it matter? They'll be doing the design that architects and engineers will translate into actual things :)

I think it's got a lot of chance of being pulled off. It's not like Notch is short of a billion or two (thanks Microsoft  ).

Nonsense - Freddy has plenty of amusement park experience.

Interesting concept. We will see if it can get off the ground!
